I finally ordered it and got a chance to sit down and read it earlier this week. I've heard so many good things and high praise so I admit I was expecting a lot.While some people need some time to adjust to Lemire's style of art I can get into it right away. I see a lot of people call it "raw" or "scratchy" which can sometimes be buzz words for poor or bad art. In this case, it actually is "raw" and is perfect for the characters and story being told here.From what I understand the comic book was presented mostly if not all in flip book style while only one chapter in the collected edition is able to utilize that presentation. I don't know whether that made the story more engrossing or distracting but I enjoyed it for the chapter I got to see it in action.While we don't get to know everything about our lead characters we do learn enough to know that they are broken people who are victims of their time, whether by the horror of war or the unforgiving danger of space. What we learn is enough to become engrossed in their life, and their love.I enjoyed the experience but I didn't seem to love it like many others. I really did enjoy the worlds I was taken to but I must admit, I felt a little let down by the ending. I don't know what I was expecting but I expecting more. That might be more a failing on my end rather than the author/artist, however.I didn't find some deeper meaning that many have found, perhaps I'm more obtuse than most, and I liked it quite a bit more than some of the negative reviews I've come across, so maybe I'm just a bit less obtuse than some.I'm not upset I went down this journey and I'll probably go down it again soon someday. I dragged my feet reading this as months passed. But once you start this tale it's a great ride and knowing that it ends is the best part. There are times when you want more from the story but that's just yourself getting a little greedy. It's a succinct tale that could easily be adapted into another form of media.It's a good book to pass onto a friend and definitely sets itself apart from most sci-fi in its genre; being unique and familiar enough not to lose itself in the weeds.
