In a world where you get what you pay for.......
.......along comes this awesome Smittybilt Jerry Can Holder! This thing is well built and the powdercoat is really nice. Please don't believe it will "float" at the back of your tire, there's a separate adapter available for that mounting (search "Smittybilt 2740 I-Rack", or "Intelligent Rack", here on Amazon or check "The Bay"). This Jerry Can Holder has mounting holes on both long sides and it should be pretty easy to fabricate some form of suitable mount for it. As mentioned in other reviews, there are a bunch of rubber isolaters to keep your metal can off of the metal frame, they're not really secure---you'll want to get some self stick insulation to replace this, but it's no issue, really. You can leave the isolators in place if you never plan on removing the can from the holder (parade queen, like my buddies Jeep!); otherwise they'll pop out when you pull the can. Overall, I'm really impressed at the quality and appearance of this thing for the money!

A Jerry can bracket for my off-road van.
I was looking for an inexpensive, but well made Jerry can bracket, and I finally found one. The bracket is made from welded angular steel and includes a metal strap to go over the Jerry can. I mounted the Jerry can bracket on the back door of my van which I go camping with. I used a Jerry can other than their recommended one and so the metal strap would not fit, but I had an old bicycle cable and lock that is perfect for it. Even though I didn't use the metal strap, I would not hesitate to recommend this Jerry can bracket to anyone needing to carry extra fuel. My only caution is that if you plan to use a Scepter Jerry can with it, you will have to modify the bracket, but if you do so you will have the best bracket you can buy.

The Crown 5-gallon can fits just fine even with the rubber pads
People are saying here and on other sites that the CROWN brand gas cans either don't fit, fit tight requiring removing the rubber pads or that you have to reshape the latch to get it to fit over the top. The Crown 5-gallon can fits just fine even with the rubber pads. The latch fits perfectly over the top without any alteration. Perfect straight out of the box. Maybe Smittybilt has redesigned the holder since the other reviews were made to fit the Crown cans. I can see how the rubber pads are going to get lost taking the can in and out, though. Probably need to use some kind of adhesive.

it's a good product.
Worked well for what it was intended plus some. I bolted it to my ladder on my FJ Cruiser and it holds a 5.5 gallon Scepter gas can or a 6 gallon Igloo water jug, depending on my needs. I'd give it 5 stars but after only two weeks, there is rust forming around the weld joints. I can see me replacing this after several years. Another thing is the security bracket that secures the cans seems rather, well, cheaply made. If someone wanted to take the jug, I don't foresee them having any problems doing so. Other than that, it's a good product.

This is a great product
Dear Amazon, i purchased this can holder as a suggestion to my purchase of a green 5 gallon water container. Please stop recommending it with that product, it does not fit. The Jerry Gas Can Holder works great with the right can, but not with the green Scepter 5 gallon water container. I will purchase the correct gas can for this, but i wish i could lock down my water container. Oh well, we cant win them all.

Poor build quality. Not worth the extra price with poor QC.
These units have poor quality welds but they do the basic job if you install them in a truck bed (i dont need to bungee cord / ratchet strap them in). The hold down brackets on both units I bought broke at the hinge tack welds on the first drive (7 miles). These may be cheaper than fabricating myself but I will probably be welding up my own jerry can holder if I need another one and using better (thicker) materials. The second unit did not come with the rubber rub guards meaning the holder will wear the paint off my nato cans if I continue to drive with them. Having said that, there are a variety of mounting holes on the frames which is nice. I will likely reweld / redesign the hold down strap and they will work fine.

Have to use a metal can, not plastic
Nice sturdy rack, easy to install and nice to have a lock on it. The plastic container won’t fit, have to use a metal one.
