Excellent book by experts on this incident
I gave “Encounter I Rendlesham Forest” five stars because of the credentials of its authors: Nick Pope, John Burroughs, and Jim Penniston. Mr. Pope worked for a number of years on the UFO desk for the British Ministry of Defense, and has spent years more researching UFOs generally and the Rendlesham Forest Incident particularly. Mr. Burroughs and Mr. Pennison were both serving in the U.S. Air Force and stationed at RAF Bentwaters/RAF Woodbridge in December 1980, and were eye-witnesses to the events themselves. In fact, I was so excited about this book that I had it on pre-order from amazon.com. And I was not disappointed.Their introduction says, “This is not a UFO book in any conventional sense. Other UFO books—whether or not the authors come out and say so—are written to make a case that UFOs are extraterrestrial spacecraft. A much smaller number of UFO books are written with the intention of disproving the so-called extraterrestrial hypothesis. Both types of books are conclusion-led. The authors peddle their own dogma, be it that of true believer or die-hard debunker. Data are used selectively, erroneously, or downright dishonestly, in such a way as to convince readers either that we’re being visited by space aliens, or conversely, that such a thing is impossible. This book takes a fundamentally different approach. It’s data-led and we place into the public domain a vast amount of information, most of it published here for the first time.”The Table of Contents looks like this:1. Ground Zero; 2. The Morning After; 2. Into the Darkness; 4. It’s Coming This Way; 5. Charles Halt over the Years; 6. The Most Important Bases in NATO; 7. Debriefing the Witnesses; 8. The Brits are Coming; 9. Skeptical Theories; 10. Exotic Theories; 11. The Story Gets Out; 12. Rendlesham Rumors; 13. No Defense Significance? 14. Project Condign; 15. Beyond Rendlesham; 16. Other Voices; 17. The Search for Answers; 18. The Rendlesham Code; 19. Final Thoughts from John Burroughs and Jim Penniston. The book includes six appendixes, reproducing documents that support various facts and witnesses in the case.Nick Pope is a fine writer and a fine researcher as shown from his earlier book “Open Skies, Closed Minds” (1998), which is an overview of the UFO situation at that time. Readers might also want to consult “Left at East Gate,” (1997) by Larry Warren and Peter Robbins, another book-length treatment of the Rendlesham Forest Incident and its aftermath from the point-of-view of eye-witness Larry Warren. There’s also an interesting chapter on this incident in Bill Birnes’s “UFO Hunters” (2013). Birnes’s book is a companion to the History Channel series of the same name and looks at some of his investigative team’s outstanding cases.

Encountering the "Encounter in Rendlesham Forest"
"Encounter in Rendlesham Forest" offers the best documented account of what is the most convincing and significant UFO encounter to have occurred within the last fifty years. The authority of author Nick Pope, a former Deputy Director in the British Directorate of Defense Security and the former director of the British government’s UFO Project, lends a level of credibility to this writing not found in most books on the UFO subject. Likewise, the eyewitness accounts of co-authors, Jim Penniston and John Burroughs, further that credibility. What Mr. Pope accomplishes is rare. He presents a convincing and verifiable paper trail from official military and government sources, both British and American, that establish beyond doubt that dozens of witnesses observed an unexplained and a highly unusual series of events which played out over three nights in December 1980, in the Rendelsham Forest between the twin RAF bases of Woodbridge and Bentwaters.Notably missing in this book is any participation, as a co-author, by the USAF Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt, who was a principal witness to the event and at the time was the Deputy Base Commander at RAF Woodbridge. Nor does he seem to have endorsed this book. Nonetheless, much of what Colonel Halt has publicly stated and published is included, and it corroborates most of the story told by the other eyewitnesses.I would have given a 5 star rating to this book, rather than 4, had Colonel Halt been one of the co-authors and had several of the less relevant and sparse reports of historic UFO cases been left out. They seemed extraneous. But this is one of the best books on the UFO subject and arguably the best on the Rendelsham Forest incident.

The definitive account as told by the direct witnesses and experts close to the incident
This book lays it all out in an easy to understand format. Finally, the direct witnesses tell what really happened before, during and after the most documented encounter with a craft of unknown origin, in the Rendlesham Forest. Nick Pope knows this incident and the behind the scenes investigations that took place due to his stint in the MoD. His insight and knack for explaining the details make this book easy to understand. Jim Penniston, the USAF SSgt who investigated and touched the craft opens up and provides previously unknown details about what he encountered and investigated in the English forest in December 1980. The binary message he received is laid out for all to digest. The message is shocking and reassuring at the same time. John Burroughs provides his perspective of the incident which at times differs from that of Penniston. This discrepancy is explained in the book. Both men's testimony and outstanding military credentials add a high level of credibility. Some may find the information in this book hard to swallow due to it challenges all you know and think you know about UFO's, paranormal activities and the cover-up of such activity. Newly released documents show the phenomenon was taken seriously at very high levels in the military and the government. A full transcript of Col. Halt's tape recording during the incident has been transcribed in the book. One can tell Col Halt took this encounter very seriously. In conclusion, I have read all the books written on the Rendlesham Forest incident and this is definitely the definitive account. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in UFO's, paranormal activity, conspiracy theories, and government cover-ups. Again Nick Pope did an outstanding job tying all this information together in this book! No Question 5 STARS for this book! A gripping story of an encounter with a mystery!!
Encounter in Rendlesham Forest by Nick Pope is an impressive book not only because of the subject of it, but also by the way the author presented the facts regarding the encounter with a mystery in Rendlesham Forest. The book is very informative and as objective as it possibly could be. The author doesn't jump to conclusions letting the documents and witnesses tell us the story. The facts and the way the author presents them make the book such a great read.

It’s a good book about 80% through
It’s a good book about 80% through. It’s a fair analysis and tries to take a scientific approach to the rendelsham forest incident. A lot of information which wasn’t previous known to me. Unfortunately I feel at least in part some of the story is fabrication. There is a part in the book which talks about a witness seeing the flashing of lights when touching a symbol on the craft. If this is true then a flash would be on (1) and darkness would be off (0). In this instance it would not be clear to a human when a stream of 1 or 0 would occur. For example a flash being on for 5 minutes would constitute how many 1’s? Or being off for 20 minutes would constitute how many 0’s? To a human mind which cannot time keep to how a computer works to clock a 1 or a 0 makes no sense. Also considering that there are at least 2 ways to decode binary (big endian and little endian) how could any message be deciphered with any clear message. Sorry nick. In this case the facts doesn’t support the story and almost seems like it’s made up. Or at least the witness doesn’t understand how binary code works (buzz word). Maybe more like morse code? Which can be deciphered by humans at the signal level?
