So much fun!
I had a lot of fun playing with a borrowed pair of poi, so I bought my own pair of Spin-lights from Amazon for $20. It included the pair of poi with batteries, their strings, an instructional DVD and a carry case. I'd rate them 5 stars because they're a great value for the price. If you're considering learning poi and don't know if you want to do it or not, this is a fantastic starter set. The way the poi are attached to the string at 2 places and the built-in swivel help them hold up to rough use and also help them tangle less.If you spin poi a lot, I suggest buying this set and making some upgrades in 2 areas- the finger tabs that you hold on to, and the string length adjusters. The edges of the nylon finger tabs can rub your adjacent fingers raw if you practice a lot; I'd suggest swapping out for softer leather tabs instead. The string length adjusters on this are kind of flat and broad and thus can cause the strings to tangle at that point; rounder, more streamlined hardware would lessen that effect. Now, that being said, this set is fantastic because it's very easy to change out any of that for something better, or modify what's there. These poi come with a carry sack and a DVD. I don't use the carry sack because it's black and too easily lost in the dark. However the DVD was a definite nice-to-have bonus. I was able to pick up on some of the tricks right off, some came with practice, and some I just didn't get. However, for the ones I didn't get, I at least knew the names of the trick and was able to search you-tube instructional videos to find one that made sense to me.I've had my original set of Spin-lights for about 6 months now. My two children and I practice with them a lot. Even my mostly-inactive niece wants to get up and dance if she can use my poi. This set has been able to so far withstand all of us and they're still very bright and working fine. Note- something has come loose in one of them and rattles around sometimes, but it still works as well as ever.I'm ordering two more sets today- one pair for a gift, and one pair to have as a loaner pair because everyone wants to play with them. These are wonderful.

Really quite good.
When I ordered this product, I was expecting a set of cheap leds on string. What I got was much more. These poi have been made with every possible problem attended to. The casing is soft and mailable, allowing the lights inside to remain relatively safe when the balls are impacted. There is a plastic cover which screws over the battery casing to ensure they do not fall out, and even comes with a small easily portable screwdriver. The string seems to resist fraying to badly, and is detachable so you can just use the poi balls themselves without having to bundle up the string in your palms. On the string there is a small plastic piece which allows you to lengthen or shorten how far the poi hangs from your hand. In addition, they came with a 'how to spin poi' CD, which teaches you some basic moves to get started. And of course a manual on how to operate them.Pros- Relatively durable, cheap, versatile, portable, three(?)different light modes, extremely well made for the price. If you want to try it out without making too much of a commitment, BUY THESE. They are great for the curious beginner.Cons- The plastic piece on the string broke within days of getting it, but didn't impede how the poi worked really, just adjusting the string length. Easy replacement. The Blue LED light in one of the ones I went out after a while, but it still flashes all the other colors, and honestly, I've been smashing these things into each other and into walls fairly often and they still work.I have yet to bring these to a show of some sort, but It is great fun to play around with, and a little bit of a workout too :)

Makes for a good start, but it's not without it's faults.
I am new to poi and I didn't purchase this thinking it would be much more than a cheap set to get started on. The thing to remember when you are a consumer is that you get what you pay for, and we all know there are much more expensive sets of poi that likely reflect higher quality in many cases. After 24 hours, these are my thoughts thus far. The length adjuster lacks reliability. I am not swinging these things around like a drunken ninja but the length will change after a short period of time. Even in the instructional DVD it appeared to me like the lengths were uneven (The DVD that does, in fact, come in handy) but I can't say whether or not it's because of this issue or if they just rushed production of the videos. One of the poi balls is a bit flat on one side which is bothersome, but not a huge deal in itself as it doesn't affect it's usability. I was hoping that I could work the flat part out a bit, but it doesn't seem like it will ever become a normal sphere. My other concern is that, after about an hour of use (and once again, I am swinging these at the standard velocity), one of the cords released from the ball and I had to retie it. Again, not a huge deal, but if I was someone who was using these to put on a show, and not just a beginner practicing in his front yard, this could potentially ruin my night. So far no issues with the LED functionality, which is good because that's the most important aspect in my opinion, considering the flaws with the cords can be remedied by purchasing higher quality cords. Also worth noting; the LEDs are nice and bright. There are pros and cons, but ultimately, at this price point one can't exactly expect perfection. I don't regret this purchase, but I do want other consumers to have realistic expectations with this product.
