The pockets are made with the same material as the liner so they will drain. There is an internal pocket you could put a key, money, credit card or a card key into. It has a sturdy tie cord around the waist along with the elastic. They look good and can be worn anywhere you would wear a pair of shorts. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating is that the material is heavier than I expected and holds water longer than some of the other shorts/swim suits that I have.
