Creative ways to gain a competitive advantage
Successful companies operating in mature industries tend to embrace incremental change because they are reluctant to create new product lines that will compete with their old product lines, according to Luke Williams in this book. However, to remain successful they must consistently make bold moves, using disruptive innovation to stay ahead of the pack. The book provides a complete five-stage process for disruptive change, allocating a chapter to each:1. Craft a disruptive hypothesis2. Define a disruptive market opportunity3. Generate several disruptive ideas4. Shape them into a single disruptive solution5. Make a disruptive pitch that will persuade internal or external stakeholders to adopt what you have createdThere are numerous books which advise readers to apply "design thinking" to their business. Invariably, such books refer to Apple products, but the typical business leader simply does not have - and probably does not want - what it takes to emulate Steve Jobs. This book is more helpful than others because it shows the reader in practical step-by-step ways how to create and gain acceptance of a disruptive business idea. For example, the step of crafting a disruptive hypothesis is broken down into asking what you want to disrupt, identifying the clichés or common assumptions that govern the way people do business in the relevant industry, and proposing disruptive hypotheses. The last sub-step is broken down again by asking what you can invert, what you can deny, and what you can scale. The book is entertaining to read, with numerous interesting anecdotes and with the process being illustrated at each stage by reference to the real-life example of the Little Miss Matched sock business. I highly recommend the book to business leaders who are looking for creative ways of gaining a competitive advantage.

Clear and Focused Step by Step Innovation
I just finished reading Disrupt: Think the unthinkable to spark transformation in your business by Luke Williams. When there are almost and infinite supply of books and texts on 'how to innovate', Disrupt is the most intuitive and practical I've read. One of the problems with books on innovation is that the majority of authors give you a big picture view of how it is that organizations innovate but don't really explain it in practical terms. There's no hand holding. What makes Disrupt different is it takes the opposite approach, it's Step-By-Step Innovation.Luke is a former innovation practitioner at Frog Design and you can tell he worked hard to bring the innovation process down to earth. Providing methods and tools to guide you through the whole process, including a chapter on how to craft and pitch your idea to others. In doing so, he gives you the essentials to start disrupting in a week. And no, I'm not kidding.Clear and focused, I highly recommend this book to you and anyone who wants to shake things up but are mind boggled on how exactly go about doing it.

Inspirational and packed with practical, how-tos
I never thought I'd say this about a book on business...but I couldn't put DISRUPT down. I was actually reading passages aloud to a friend! I think everyone should read this book, whether you own a business (whatever the size), are a CEO, employee, or a creative person with a lot of ideas. You'll get inspired throughout the book as Luke illustrates the genesis of some of the most successful products and services on the market...you'll see how these companies "disrupt" - make bold moves, look at the unexpected, strip away cliches in their own industries, and shake things up. But the beauty of the book lies in the fact that it is not only inspirational, but it's also a real how-to. You can apply the principles of disruptive thinking in your own organization, to your own ideas, as Luke takes you step-by-step through the entire process. It's not just reading about a different way of thinking, of looking at your company and what you offer to come up with ideas...it's also about the "how" behind the "wow".

Light-weight, though useful approach to creative thinking
This book could have been written in half the number of words and probably been more useful. The author's enthusiasm and experience are fantastic but I found myself reading the first half of the book and skimming the rest. The case studies and many of the examples in the book are interesting but not compelling because the outcomes are clever and unique products but it's not clear whether they are commercially successful. My suspicion is most of them are not... Still, the techniques are useful because they encourage out of the box thinking and teamwork, and most importantly fun.

Exactly what i was looking for
The book itself is strong and durable, its size is easy to carry so i had a very good first glance impression. Regarding "Disrupt", i think there's a lot of books with new ideas but many of them miss the tricky part of putting your feet on solid ground, there's a lot of texts that are still vague enough not to give you actual solutions. Disrupt is precise, concrete and very practical. It not only sets your mind in a inspiring full of new ideas state, it walk with you every step of the way so there's no "and how will i know when i get there?" or "would this be the thing the author was talking about?". I liked the ideas and liked very much the detailed way they were written.

Take Action
As a former frog, I'm quite familiar with the concepts Luke Williams presents in Disrupt. Still, I'm impressed with how he is able to break down these concepts into an easy-to-digest format with defined action steps. Very inspirational read; best consumed with a project in mind.

Disrupt is outside the box - in a GOOD way!
Captivated by this book from the first page. Couldn't put it down. Right after reading Disrupt, I participated in a Research forum to survey products by a large company. As I introduced some "disruptive ideas" people sat up and paid attention. This is a keeper for my library, and something I've already begun to implement in my life!

2 ordini dello stesso libro usato
