JBL Xtreme 2 Portable Waterproof Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Black (Renewed)

I have been keeping my eye out for a good water proof speaker. I found this one. Let me start by saying that I own a pair of Klipsch KG4's and a Harmon Kardon Onyx studio 3 and a Sonos and Bose speakers. So I have heard a lot of sound come out of fairly decent quality speakers. But none of them are water proof. This JBL has about the same volume range as the Onyx 3 which is more than enough. The bass is okay, if you set the speaker in a corner of the room the bass will be more pronounced but overall its decent for the size. The main reason I bought the speaker was to take out on the pontoon boat, It was perfect. As soon as we parked at the beach I threw it off the side of the boat, It floats. I ran about 3/4 volume unplugged for about 4 hours and the battery indicator lights still showed full charge, impressive. At the 3/4 volume the speakers could easily be herd 40 feet away. If you want it louder then you will have to plug it in to get the max wattage. I even used the USB on the speaker to charge my phone. Overall a great experience. I would say the speaker is worth around the $200 range, its not a $300 speaker. So buying it refurbished is great! Still comes with enough of a warranty to check that all the buttons work and the battery holds a good charge. If not send it back and try again! That is my review. -Tom

I purchased this as a "renewed" item, for the price break. Previously, I've owned some smaller, less expensive Bluetooth speakers, but have found them to be generally 'tinny' and lacking in bass. Some have had difficulty maintaining a connection via Bluetooth as well. The JBL Extreme 2 has none of those faults. I took it camping with friends the first weekend after receiving it. Playing music at half to 3/4 volume, we used it for about 8-9 hours in total, and it was down from 5 battery indicator lights to 4. . . .much better than I expected. I work in a manufacturing environment, and the speaker is powerful enough to be heard over a nearby sanding booth, air-powered drills, and so forth in the vicinity. In fact, a few of my co-workers are openly jealous of the thing. The sound quality is excellent as well, as long as you're not expecting the sort of bass you'd get from a 10" bass driver. It's rich, and full. The carry strap is a nice touch, although I find myself toting it around protectively in the crook of my arm for the most part. As a result, my wife calls it the "sound baby". I have not had the opportunity (if that's the right word) to test the claimed water resistance, but based on the other reviews here, I have little reason to doubt the claim. The ability to use it to charge other devices (phones etc.) is extremely handy, especially on camping trips and the like. Update 1/8/25 - Here we are 4 1/2 years later, and this speaker still accompanies me daily to provide music while I work. It continues to function perfectly. Great job on this product, JBL.

This does not sound like a portable speaker, it sounds like a stereo system. We use this on our patio, by the pool. Not only does it fill the OUTDOOR space with full rich DEEP sound, we don’t worry about it getting wet! Bluetooth connection is so easy I don’t even remember doing it. Battery life is amazing too. The carrying strap is high quality, but a bit long. We bought an aftermarket handle that fixes that. I’ve been a car stereo nut all my life, and I know what a full frequency response sounds like, and most portables do not represent the lower ends at all. I’m sure an audiophile would say this has too much bass, but it’s necessary for an outdoor speaker to feel balanced. Even if this was you living room stereo, it would be every bit as good as a high-watt component system. Even better, we bought a refurbished unit at a steep discount, so the value was phenomenal. Best portable outdoor speaker I’ve ever heard, you will never regret buying this amazing little beast!

I was sceptical in buying a renewed product but decided to give it a try. Item came packaged like it was brand new just in a brown box. It comes with a power adapter and shoulder strap. I rigged my own grab handles. See pics. The speaker looks and sounds great. Crisp clear and booming bass. I did the firmware update to 2.0 through the JBL app then uninstalled the app. The update gives the speaker a boost. Its louder and theres a slight increase in bass. The app is really simplistic giving you L&R channel or party mode not much else. Why does it need location contacts etc? They are doing a data grab. 🙄 The only thing it's good for is firmware updates which took about 15min. The speaker sounds great and purchasing renewed was good. May buy another at this price. 😉👍 UPDATE: I liked the 1st one and the quality was good so I bought another one. The 2nd one crackles and pops. 😕 It worked fine the 1st day then went to rice crispies. 🙁 UPDATE 2: Got the replacement for the defective one and so far it sounds ok no crackling but this one has blemishes 😐 see pics. Looks like its cracked on the inside? Idk. 🙁 Afraid to get it wet for sure. Well that's only 1 out of 3 that's good. I don't think I'll be buying renewed anymore it seems it's a crap shoot. UPDATE 3: No crackling or pops with the 3rd one. 🙏 Despite the 2nd one being snap crackle pop and the 3rd one having a scar THIS SPEAKER SOUNDS SO GOOD. Battery life is good. Connects performs great, bumping it up a star. 👍

I have 4 of these and I use them for our outdoor pool area. They sync well together and provide nice sound. It is not nor will it ever be better than a wired system for loudness. However, guests tell us they like the fact they can have conversations with music running in the background and no being overbearing. You may sync one of these to a roll and link the others via the connect/sync button on the top of the other unit. A low cost way to have high end functionality in an outdoor space wirelessly.

This speaker has not only the best quality and volume of any Bluetooth I've owned, but has survived the wear and tear of a factory environment. It's been dropped, smacked, rolled, chipped, and had the fabric torn but it's still somehow lives! The sound quality has not diminished noticeably at all. If you need a speaker for a warehouse or outdoor activities this is it. I've had no issues with the refurbished option at all.

I love the JBL Extreme line. I have 3 total and I love them. I would buy again without hesitation!
