Don't be put off by reviews, this souls-like shooter is good
Update - I am now 10 hours in and continuing to have a great time. If you are a run and gun style player this game may not be for you. If you enjoyed the deliberate "weighted" movement of Demon's/Dark Souls and the patient effort it took to get to know your enemies a step at a time - this game is for you - just with guns and melee weapons, though guns are your primary weapon. There is a lock on option, shifting to other enemies once they die. Hammers, swords, maces, daggers, they - and more - are all there. Admittedly, the graphics are no 5 star rating like other gorgeous games out there right now - let's get that out of the way. What has drawn me in is the gritty challenging game play. You have roll, and backwards roll (no jumping or taking cover crouch) and instead use your environment extensively for shielding from enemy fire after assessing enemy placement prior to advancing using a combination of guns and melee weapons according to the situation. It's incredibly satisfying. Watching your stamina bar is critical - the enemies too. Yes, there is a "bonfire" like futuristic structure, and obelisk, where you level up, save and change out weapons and enhancements. If you die, you drop your collected "bits" (currency) and need to make it back to collect your "bitstain", you use bits to level up. If you die trying to get back to your bit-stain, yes, they are permanently gone. You have three starting hypodermic healing capabilities and I'm not sure if I get more - I sure hope so! (you do ;) There are shortcuts to unlock too, the level design of each environment is really good - explore everywhere.I chose the balanced Mercenary class and will customize the Attributes once I have a better feel of my preferred skills. Read your skill tree carefully before leveling up, don't rush in. For example, strength does not increase your resistance. There is character creation as well as a male/female option, not detailed face customization or body style but the cosmetic characterization is super bada$$ and fun.Like I said, it feels souls-like in difficulty but rewards you for patience and allowing the game to show you how to approach each enemy. Dodging and rolling is paramount to survival, reading your enemies with respect is critical. If you have a place in your heart for a developer who has had the innovation and spirited initiative to attempt a sci-fi like horror Souls game, give this a try or pick it up when it drops in price, it's really worth a shot and I'm liking it a lot so far.To sum up: Imagine Crysis had a love child with Demon's Souls back in 2005 graphics and Darksiders and Dead Space looked on in approval as guardians. Sounds bonkers - but this is as close as it get's to the feel of this worthwhile, courageous and intrepid game, I'm very glad it's out there to fill the game-over void I have after playing all the Soul's games as I'm ready to move on to something else. Also - much better than Lords of the Fallen that felt stodgy - and yikes - that janky camera angle! Update: the enemies are tending to be a bit "samey" but I'm still having a great time and it's super challenging. Would still recommend and hope you give it a try!

It's almost there. . .
They say "Success is a journey, not a destination" well this game is still on a journey.I bought this for the Xbox1X.My perspective on the game, at this time.. is its complete & utter garbage. Avoid at all cost unless you get it on sale. Even then, its going to require the patience of a saint to make it anywhere. My experience so far, has been hit & miss, both literally & figuratively. I wonder around... I get killed a lot, because even with armor, well the armor apparently is just for decoration purposes. The Rifles in the game, some are half way accurate, others are just all over the place. The submachine guns are pretty spot on though. They can really throw out the bullets.I wander around & find these big treasure chest that say I don't have the right key. Then I wonder around & find these doors that say I don't have the right key. Then these bosses that say I don't have the right key to defeat them. The difficulty curve of this game bounces around as much as a roller coaster. There is no map. NONE. The level designs are borderline garbage. Their cool, don't get me wrong. Their just garbage. Enemy placement is garbage. Enemy detection range is garbage, all the enemy stats are garbage.NOW to fix the above gripe. All the developers would have to do, is make it so the player character doesn't die, when one of the enemies so much glances at you, or passes gas in your direction. And put up a map that gives location. A nice BIG CLEAR MAP.I have exercised a ton of patience. Mainly because I bought this game & want to really enjoy it. I've unlocked two new maps, after the first snow level one. A forest & another level I have yet to explore because I'm currently wandering around a massive forest lost. Anyways, my point is, my weapons & character are upgraded a bit, I'd go further on the weapons but the RNG gods are not smiling on me at all on scraping weapons, or getting proper item drops.RNG is playing too much of a factor in my upgrades & I don't like it.My big message to the developers is, its hard to get anywhere when your dying all the time. Its hard to enjoy a game even an iota when your dying all the time.Bottom line is what is here took work. It's functional. But its not good. It's not Gears of War 3 third person shooter good, by a long shot.If your going to make a game like this. Something has to work to make it still come out ahead.Nier Automata that came out was comparable aesthetic wise, except I didn't have to deal with this offwash weird color experience. BUT the mechanics, the UI, the gameplay & combat were good enough to still make it a very good & enjoyable game. Immortal Unchained does not even have this..Also the stamina meter, is horrid. Even upgrading stamina.... your movements, your everything really uses up too much of the bar, making the game a very not fun experience. The only thing really done correctly in this game, is the save points. For the most part those are always around the corner at pivotal areas.Edit:I originally had a 3 star rating, but decided to come back and give a 2 star rating instead, after many, ad nauseam, repeat, in game deaths, that were completely unnecessary. It starts to grate on you, when the basic systems of the game are just utter garbage. It's frustrating beyond belief. I don't know why every developer that has come out with an action RPG, wants to copy one of the worst features of the dark souls game. That is, your experience points & currency are completely lost. It was a bad idea when dark souls did it, and its a bad idea now! Nioh's the only game that I've played that actually fixed this horrible mechanic.

Underrated game.
No hand holding in this one. Paying attention to surroundings is as important as choosing 5e right weapon.

Interesting Concept
My order arrived early and in great condition.Immortal unchained feels familiar yet new.Immortal is an interesting concept on the Hardcore Action RPG with its focus on the Gunplay and tech, instead of it being on Fantasy/Medieval Weaponry and Magic. It is a bit short on customization. it's Definitely worth playing
