Can you remove these buttons from fabric with these tools or only apply?

You can only apply them. Once on, they are very difficult to remove.

Would this work on 4mm thick leather, like a dog collar?

These are for lightweight material, so would say they would not work on leather

Can this be used to fasten two duvets together?

It should be able to as long as the material is thin enough and you put them on good enough. I used this on a dress a few years ago and the fasteners are still going strong.

Can you attach one half of the popper to a wall or wood?

Not really, unless you where to glue one half on the wall? Or if the wood was extremely thin(like a couple of mm thin) you could possibly compress it through a central drill hole? Either way I don't think it would be plausible if regularly popped and un-popped. each half is in two pieces that compress together and is only really suitable for fabric and leather.
