…And Justice for All (Remastered)

I bought ..."And Justice For All" on the strength of "The Garage Days re-revisited" E.P. and I was really disappointed with the albums overall mix. The bass guitar work on "Garage Days re-revisited" E.P. was amazing and Metallica were sounding brilliant and this made me really excited about the new full length album to come. The bass guitar parts were taken right out of the final mix of ..."And Justice for All" leaving the album sounding unbalanced and very thin. The song writing on this album is truly amazing but the songs needed the bass lines to give the album a fuller and heavier sound. The songs had great potential and is wasn't until they were heard live that their true greatness could be heard when Jason would deliver like the Bass God we know and love. I was deeply saddened by the Death of Cliff Burton an I can understand to a certain extent Lars' and James' reluctance to replace him on this album with Jason but as they say "The Show must go on". I would love to buy a re-mastered copy of this album with Jason's bass parts restored to the final mix, so that I could hear the songs as they were meant to be. This album is incredibly strong but the overall mix lets it down. Even though I don't like the album's mix I still love the songs and will happily give it five stars as it is that good!!! In my humble opinion if Jason's bass parts were as they should have been then this album would be worthy of one hundred stars and not just five!!!

Brilliant album by the band. Favorite track One.

Been a fan of Metallica since Master of Puppets was first released and been listening to that album since then. I am now buying their back catalogue since I saw them on TV at Glastonbury. I prefer Master of Puppets but this is nearly as brilliant. This album shows that they were ground breaking. I am playing this a lot and enjoying every track. They still use some of these tracks in their live shows today. All die hard Metallica fans will know this one already. But if you have not heard it yet you must buy it as it shows how complicated their musicianship is.

Great album, first bought on vinyl in 1988. You'll spend all day tweaking your levels looking for bass, but it is there somewhere. Saw them live in this tour and on stage there was plenty of bass. Shame they couldn't remix it with Jason Newstead's playing more evident, but there you go, it's still an epic record by a band on the cusp of mega stardom.

Metallica’s 1988 ...And Justice For All. 4.5 stars for the album itself as it's still my favourite Metallica release. It would be 5 stars if it wasn’t for the, now infamous, poor production of the recording. Bloody Lars interfering in things he had amateur knowledge of. This 2018 remastered edition sounds better but still feels like a massive missed opportunity. The original master tape has been used for the remastering rather than the album being re-produced to give a new master recording. The end result is improved detail, superb instrument separation and it’s non compressed full dynamic range gives a richer sound but yet Jason’s bass is still absent. Anybody who claims to hear otherwise is mistaken as it simply does not exist in the original master tape. Lower frequencies have been increased giving an overall bottom end but it ain’t no bass guitar. Damn, I wanted so much to have the bass returned in this release. Not sure if it’s down to ownership or expense to why it was remastered this way. Massive disappointment for an otherwise excellent Metallica CD.

If you like metal but don’t own this, buy it now.

Gran álbum de Metallica, para mí el segundo mejor tras Master of Puppets. Además, para este LP se ha usado la grabación original (anterior a la era del CD y la compresión de audio) y con una remasterización de lujo. La portada, retro, chulísima, y viene cortado en 2 vinilos de alto gramaje para una mejor calidad de audio y rango dinámico. Un must have. La única pena, la logística de recepción del artículo, que en el caso de los LP es un importante punto de mejora de este portal de compras.

This Remastered packaging is just beautiful. PS. According to DC comics (Superboy #83), this album is Superman's favorite Metallica album and he pretty much owns every Metallica CD. Personally it's my favorite Metallica album too.

Amazing album in general! But besides that - this is a really cool bright green pressing. The delivery took about a month as it came from Europe (I think), but that was no issue as it stated the delivery time would be longer. The record arrived well packed and cared for, brand new in the plastic. This was a present for my partner and they loved it! I would really recommend getting this for your collection - just make sure to take into account the delivery time.
