Scaffolding Language, Scaffolding Learning: Teaching Second Language Learners in the Mainstream Classroom [Pauline Gibbons, Jim Cummins] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Scaffolding Language, Scaffolding Learning: Teaching Second Language Learners in the Mainstream Classroom Review: Excellent and practical - This is an extremely practical book. There is theory in here too, but this is very handy for a practicing teacher. It's filled with actual activities (some you may already know of) to facilitate conversation, higher-level thinking, and embracing the strengths of English learners so that they can fully participate and lead in the classroom. Review: Better for elementary teachers - Gibbons does a good job of balancing theory and practice in this book. Although some of the practice can be applied at middle school level, the book is most useful to elemntary teachers. The 6 period day common at the secondary level does not lend itself to the integrated curriculum that Gibbons recommends. This is still a good read for ESL teachers of all levels. It is a book an elementary ESL teacher or ESL coordinator should read in order to set up a good ESL program at the elementary school level.

Worth it.
Picked this up for TESOL for Content Area Teachers class - and it has a lot of great, well-researched information that rises above the circus parade of bandwagons on literacy and learning.

Il testo mi è stato consigliato durante un corso Clil. L’autrice offre ottimi spunti di riflessione ed esempi su come aiutare gli alunni nell’apprendiMento della L2. Utile

Are you hesitant where to start when teaching second language learners? This book covers all 4 strands of language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing. I have gained great success as a language teacher and my students have gained language learning confidence by applying the theory contained in this book. I highly recommend to all language teachers!

A lot reading, recommended to me at recent training in relation to supporting children new to the UK who have none or very little English language.
