What is the size of the tip of this filter housing 11/16 or 7/8? i need to know which size tip guard to purchase for this filter housing.

You will need a 5/8" guard...I've been a painter for over 20yrs and I've never heard of a 7/8 size guard the standard is either 5/8 or 11/16

This Tip Filter housing screws onto your Graco Contractor Gun,Then you must purchase an 11/16th graco Tip Guard which will then screw onto this Tip Filter Housing. This Attachment was designed for operator to be able to use less expensive flat tips and for spray guns that have NO Filter in the Handle. Last, The female end of this tip filter housing is 7//8th thread while the male end is 11/16th.

What is a flat tip guard? i have graco rac v tips, but my gun does not have a filter housing.

A flat tip " guard " is the same thing as the guard for a reversible tip set up. They look very similar the difference is in the housing. One is made to use a reversible tip and the other is for non reversible flat tips. However, this item is for barrel filters and usually goes on the spray gun and its end size is 5/8" and most "gaurds" are made with an 11/16" collar. So if you use this filter housing you will need to find a 5/8" gaurd.
