Still recommend that you get a screen protector if you purchase ...
Bought these for work and they have worked very well. You can pull off the part that fits in the hand so it can be flat mounted. Protects the edges with the openings and switches fitting perfectly.Still recommend that you get a screen protector if you purchase this. The only thing that would be better, would be a fully enclosed one with a glass front. This protects the edge and back only, not the front, so get a screen protector also. For the money, pretty darn good.

Disappointed in this purchase
Unfortunately this case did not meet expectations. The rubber base is too loose fitting on the Surface Pro 3. My primary reason for this purchase was the hand strap. Unfortunately again, this strap failed to meet expectations. The strap is too loose feeling as well. I don't feel secure carrying my surface pro with the hand strap. Overall I would not hold out any hope of protection if water or any liquid were to splash onto my Surface Pro. This feedback is based purely on a comparison to the Trent Gladius Air iPad Case which I also own. I was expecting a similar feel with this case.

Not for everyone, but for the right situation, a very good case.
I use this case as my primary protection for my Surface Pro 3 (i7/8gb/256gb). It provides ample protection to the device while maintaining access to all the necessary ports / features - there are attached covers for the rear camera and right side ports (power, USB, & Mini DP). The handgrip is comfortable and makes taking my Surface with around my work facility a breeze. While the hand grip is detachable, it does not detach in an way that makes the case reasonably functional when detached. The removal of the hand grip leaves a 4.5" square hole in the back of the case. The pen loop is convenient storage for the Surface Pen. Overall, I have been satisfied with this case, but it has posed a slight ventilation / thermal issue when running system intensive activities such as firmware upgrades and OS installation - during each of these, the Surface would note a thermal event and require to be shutdown for a period to cool. Since this case assumes that the Surface will regularly be used in a tablet mode, being carried along, it does not provide any means for attaching the Surface Type cover through the case. I do not remove the case and also do not use a Type Cover, but I do use the Surface at my desk with a supplemental USB 3.0 dock to provide access to keyboard / mouse and external monitors. This case fits my modes of operation perfectly, it certainly isn't for everyone, but to those it is aimed at, it works quite well.Pros:- Sturdy Surface Pen loop- Good device protection while maintaining port / feature access- Comfortable hand gripCons:- Ventilation issues during system-intensive processes (Firmware updates & OS Installation).- No good way to detach the hand grip and maintain device protection.

Expensive but worth it
Excellent quality and protection for users who prefer to hold the tablet with one hand and type or draw with the other hand. Fantastic for construction workers or fast food order takers etc. - It is not the type of cover that you would buy if you need to take the cover off very often - (it is a bit difficult to put on and remove)

... of potential to get my Surface Pro 3 quite dirty. I bought this case as un upgrade in ...
I work in fire scenes where there is a lot of potential to get my Surface Pro 3 quite dirty. I bought this case as un upgrade in protection from the minimalist one you can get from Best Buy so I wouldn't have to worry about damaging anything. I will give the case credit, it did protect my device quite well. However, the hand strap on the back appears to be made of fairly cheap material and doesn't seem to support the weight of the device properly. My guess is that the strap would stretch and degrade fairly quickly with time, especially since it is on the backside (which makes contact whenever you set the device down). As others have mentioned, other downsides are that you can't use the keyboard while in this case, nor can you easily charge the device.TL;DR version: The case protects well, the hand strap appears cheap, can't use the keyboard while in the case, can't charge properly while in the case. If you need superior protection and can live with all of the issues, go for it, if not, you might want to keep searching.

I thought I was going to like this case more than I do
I thought I was going to like this case more than I do. My goal was to test it out before deciding to buy more for the other people that I plan to outfit with Surface Pro 3 tablets at my office. The case is definitely rugged, but it is a chore to put the case on and off the tablet. This is more designed to put on and leave on for long periods of time. Not a process you want to repeat daily.I would expect this to protect the tablet in case of a drop and it does give you the ability to be pretty mobile in the field or walking around. I am concerned over time that the hand strap is going to stretch out even with limited use.My 3 stars is not really a knock against the product itself, but more against how useful it was for me, and how I believe others will feel about it. If there were a way to remove the handle when not in use, get access to a kickstand and still attach the keyboard then this would be the perfect combination. I just can not deal with trying to take it on and off for my various uses. Therefore it is just sitting in a drawer at work for the rare time when I really need it.

Does Not Work for the Surface Pro 4
FYI.... I bought this thinking that it would work for the Surface Pro 4. It DOES NOT The access to the ports and buttons are not the same because the locations are different. After several manipulations and cutting, it now works for my SP4. I would recommend this to anyone with a SP3. When I purchased my SP4 there were no cases available... Im sure by now they have cases. I use this on a daily basis for my job and LOVE it!!! It does add some extra weight, but the ease of carrying it is SO worth it.
