Spartacus Original Soundtrack

This is just a great soundtrack. I used to watch this movie growing up, back in the days before cable TV and I can remember how much you could look forward to these things before the era of instant gratification. It was always and literally a rare treat. I used to have an LP of the soundtrack and to have it again on CD is amazing. It is not only highly evocative and powerful, but it brings back happy memories of enjoying a great film.These days, I like to listen to soundtracks like this while I read Roman history or even while I play games like Total War: Attila as music to build empires by.This is an excellent quality recording and I know you'll enjoy it.

In a time when many soundtracks are available in CD with extra music ("Oklahoma", "The Sound of Music", 'The King and I" etc)one would expect that this soundtrack would follow that idea...but this ins't the case. The CD contains the same tracks of thealbum, released in 1961. But the music is very good, particularly the main theme (in 'Overture") and the love theme "Varinia".Not many people know that Alex North, the composer of this music, also wrotte "Unchained Melody", that beautiful song from 1955and included in 'Ghost" (1990). He also is the composer for "Cleopatra" (1963) "The Rose Tatoo", and many others soundtracks.

Beautiful score. The love theme is one of the loveliest pieces of music written for the screen. It's become a staple of many jazz artists."Spartacus" was made in an era when the score was as important as the screenplay in creating mood. It's a shame that modern films have abandoned symphonic scores. Thank goodness the "Star Wars" pictures carry on the tradition.

I purchased the original soundtrack 33rpm, 51 years ago. It didn't pass the test of time. This CD is a suitable replacement. Incidentally I paid $2.99 for the album 51 years ago, it's replacement was $2.52. Not bad for one of the greatest soundtracks of all time!

Finally a neatly cleaned up Audio version of this classic Soundtrack.

hey this isn;t the original soundtrack from spartacus, i saw the movie, and i have it on dvd un-edited, this c.d isn;t even in chronological order, and it completely has cut out the battle scene music in the end.this tract is a simple compilation of exerts from the full soundtrack score. i request a refund, this is not what i thought i was buying...w.r.f.

Still one of the best soundtracks ever to come out of Hollywood.

This is the Brunswick LP version released in the 1960s to accompany the film. And an excellent job it does too.There have been a couple of expanded editions released previously - both of which I have - yet this is the most satisfactory version from a listening point of view.The front sleeve is actually reproduced from the LPs back cover, but is quite evocative in its own way.Alex North's score was a departure from the "Roman" style of Rozsa and Newman etc. and his later score for "Cleopatra" continued down the same Appian Way.Excellent CD, at a very reasonable price.

As with so many epic films of the 1960's, "Spartacus" stands out as one of the best loved movie greats. The power of the storytelling allows the audience a complete in-sight into great drama, action, love and even comedy. The music by Alex Northembodies all the great qualities of the story to the extent that you do not even have to see the film to understand the music.They just do not make films like this anymore.

One of my favourite films of all time. A truly brilliant score by Alex North. a man who I was unfamiliar with until this purchase. Worth buying for the love theme alone which is as uplifting and moving piece of music as you could hope to find. A terrific soundtrack from a genuine cinematic masterpiece.

Appalling quality. Obviously taken from vinyl. It ruins this beautiful score.There is a better version available : it's the black cover that is also the DVD cover.It sounds much better than this.

Very very good soundtrack from kirk Douglas film for those like film track music I would recommend this
