Product Description Classic creature comedy horror directed by Joe Dante and produced by Steven Spielberg. When Billy Peltzer (Zach Gilligan) is given the cute and friendly little Mogwai, Gizmo (voiced by Howie Mandel), for Christmas, he is told never to expose it to bright light, get it wet or ever feed it after midnight. But one night when a glass of water is accidentally spilled over little Gizmo, Billy soon finds out why he was told to follow this advice as Gizmo begins to convulse, producing five new Mogwai. As Billy and his science teacher, Mr. Hanson (Glynn Turman), then seek to find out more about the creatures, a series of events lead to the escape of a number of them; and due to their heightened intelligence they know exactly how to replicate themselves. Soon after, the town is overrun by a new breed of Mogwai - the 'Gremlins' - who are menacing little reptilian creatures, and far from friendly. desertcart.co.uk Review When his absent-minded father gives young Billy Pelzer (Zach Galligan) a new pet, he warns him to abide by three rules. The rules get broken, of course, and the pet--a cute Mogwai named Gizmo--unwittingly gives birth to the vicious Gremlins who proceed to terrorise the town. Although the long shadow of Producer Steven Spielberg hangs over Joe Dante's 1984 comedy Gremlins almost as much as it did over Tobe Hooper's Poltergeist (1982), Dante doesn't allow it to overwhelm his own quirky style too much. Glimpses of Robbie the Robot and The Time Machine (which promptly disappears) at an inventors' convention reveal his passion for old-movie references (which culminated with Matinee, 1993). Aided and abetted by Spielberg's guidance and a script by Chris Columbus (who would go on to direct and produce the Home Alone franchise) and a music score by Jerry Goldsmith, Dante had all the help he needed to make the biggest hit of his career. Much of the humour derives from Dante's playful handling of the setting in Smallsville, USA, whose inhabitants are as much the target of his satire as they are of the Gremlins' unwanted solicitations. The xenophobic neighbour who warns prophetically of "gremlins" in foreign cars and machinery provides a subtext for the attack on homely American values, as does showing Invasion of the Body Snatchers on TV while the wicked Gremlins hatch. The sight of the little tykes cavorting in a bar, getting drunk and even dancing in pink leggings looks suspiciously like a satirical dig at the whole 1980's culture of selfishness: with their destructive impulses and overindulgences the Gremlins are the ultimate egotistical yuppies. As with many Spielberg projects, the bland hero saves the day for nostalgic, old-fashioned values, but there are plenty of laughs along the way--for example in the now-classic scene when the hero's mother fights off Gremlins in the kitchen by stuffing them in the blender and microwave. Dante's 1990 sequel is even more satirically pointed, and he effectively remade the original with Small Soldiers (1998), replacing Gremlins with toys. On the DVD: Disappointingly, there are no extra features at all here, aside from subtitles and "interactive menus"--which simply means there is an onscreen menu and it works. --Mark Walker Review: Good Movie - I really enjoyed it back in the day but I was too young to watch it at the cinema but I bought it on VHS and I thought it was great. I really bought this to see the film come to life with the picture upgrade, I was not dissapointed. I would not call it a horror movie but there were some moments to make you jump. BEWARE OF THE CONSEQUENCIES IF THE RULES ARE NOT FOLLOWED
These are the rules you must follow if owning a mogwai - No Water - No Food after Midnight - also ultra-sensitive to bright-light including the Sun. The story tells of how a struggling inventor Randall Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) visits a Chinese Antique Store in the hope of finding a Christmas present for his son Billy (Zach Galligan) who works at the local bank. In the store Randall hears a strange noise and is shown by the owners Grandson a strange cuddly-looking creature called a Mogwai which Randall immediately wants to buy, however the store owner refuses to sell, knowing his Grandfather needed the money the Grandson secretly sells the creature to Randall and explains the three rules of ownership. Billy when receiving the little fellah is delighted, and soon finds it wanting to interact. Billy calls it Gizmo. Billy shows Gizmo to a friend who accidentally spills a glass of water on the Mogwai, this triggers Gizmo to spawn 5 little-ones from its back. Billy goes on the next day on to show his former science teacher the phenomenon using one of the five spawned, the teacher, fascinated That night Billy is tricked by the mischievous little-one he's called stripe into giving them food after midnight (the electric lead to Billy's clock had been severed) Gizmo, refused the offer of food. The spawned Mogwai's become cocoons as does the one Billy's former teacher experimented with. The two most important rules had been inadvertently broken....the cocoons hatch, mischievous reptilian monsters emerge- GREMLINS. The little monsters will now set about ruining the Festive season in the small town of Kingston Falls. How can they be stopped? A fun-filled Comedy/Horror offering written by Chris Columbus and directed by Joe Dante with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. Myself, I probably haven't seen the film for some 30 years or so, and cannot make comparisons on the series of DVD/Blu-ray upgrades down the years. For myself, on the 4K format, though reportedly so much better in picture quality to the last Blu-ray release, I myself, though enjoying the spectacle for the first time in many a day thought the picture quality no better than I'd expect from a Blu-ray.(maybe just me ?) ''Hence the 4 Star-Rating.

80’s classic
I bought this because l like the pre-water versions who are cute and make a sweet little singing sound. Once they get wet, oh boy, not nice gremlins. Great 80’s nostalgia. I would recommend.

GREAT film for Christmas
A great Christmas movie I can watch time and time again. I know whats coming but I still love it. I just ADORE Stripe although I would not want him in my house. For anyone who does not know this story basically a loving father buys a strange creature for his son for Christmas and is told never to feed it after midnight, keep it out of sunlight and do not get it wet. Of course all of these things happen and from it the Gremlins are then born although it does not become one. The Gremlins wreak havoc as would be expected but eventually they are defeated and the creature is returned to its original owner who never wanted to sell it in the first place. There are some great 1 liners and a great scene where a Gremlin in a post box spits out some letters just posted and then proceeds ti try and eat the next person who posts something. Perfect family film and with a few subtle but social messages thrown in.

Most impressive!
Gremlins is one of those classic 80's movies that just never gets old. A fun ride throughout, no matter how many times you watch it. The 4K transfer of this movie is absolutely stunning! Gremlins has never looked so good!

Be careful with your purchase of the 4K edition. It's advertised as a steelbook, but arrives in a standard case!

Buena película a buen precio. Tal como en la descripción. Sólo he echado algo en falta el doblaje al castellano, pero viene subtitulada, así que sin problema (de hecho todo viene perfectamente descrito)
