I gave this handbag to my 13-year-old granddaughter for Christmas. It's large enough to hold the items she needs to have with her every day.

Is the bag made out of a lightweight nylon?

Not lightweight at all nor heavyweight like backpacks, but medium weight. I love it and have two colors, black and pewter. Bottom is about 3” wide so it can hold more stuff...my iPhone 6, my bulky credit card holder, a pack of travel Kleenex and a 4c6” coin purse!
