Every time I get a new computer, I pull the HDD out of the old one and put it in an enclosure, not just for security reasons, but to use for additional storage. If you look at the included picture, it illustrates that I still have a 3.5" HDD (that I think I'll transferred and retire) that can be compared to this wonderful enclosure for a recent SSD of the same capacity. Admittedly, it did not work when I first plugged it in; got some weird error messages. But after rebooting the new laptop, it hasn't had any issues recognizing and accessing the former laptop's SSD. I only wish I had bought it sooner. Getting the new computer to transfer from the old, while different from the pains of the past, was just as painful. It's MUCH better to just yank the SSD into and enclosure, and then choose your files to transfer (assuming you don't need ancient apps and clients like I had). After that, you have an awesome storage or backup device that fits in a pocket or purse rather than luggage

I was surprised at how nice this was for the cost, I didn't expect much. It even has a little blue status light when there are read/write activities happening. It comes with a tiny screwdriver that you have to be super careful with, it can strip out the screws if they aren't threaded straight-on. Would buy again.

Worked as expected. Good thing it comes with extra screws. Even if you drop one (which most likely you are), you’ll always a spare pair. Comes with a screwdriver too, but I’d rather prefer to reduce the price by dollar or two than shipping a onetime use screwdriver. Functionality wise, it worked just fine. I haven’t had any issues till now. Haven’t seen any issues with data transfer speed either. I did use it to move my games from old Xbox to new one.

Nice, economical device. However, its large frontal area may obscure adjacent ports on your device. In my case it partially covered the only other USB-A port on my laptop.
