My attempts to film my dog have, until now, resulted in shaky, chaotic footage that fails to capture his majestic daftness. This gimbal, with its promise of AI animal tracking, was my chosen tool to finally create a canine cinematic masterpiece.The hardware itself is a magnificent piece of engineering. It’s compact, feels beautifully made, and the 3-axis stabilisation is superb, instantly transforming my wobbly walking shots into smooth, gliding footage. The built-in selfie stick and tripod are genuinely useful, making it a very versatile all-in-one device. The AI tracking did a valiant job of following my labrador around the garden, though his more unpredictable, high-speed antics could still outsmart it.However, the hardware is let down by the software. The companion app is bloated and unintuitive, with key features buried in confusing menus. Worse, it demands an alarming number of permissions from your phone just to function, and requires you to create an account. This feels unnecessarily intrusive.At £120, you are buying a brilliant piece of hardware that is unfortunately shackled to a frustrating and overbearing software experience. This is the very first product of this kind I'm testing, so I probably haven't fully exploited it and tested all its feature in minute detail. For a beginner, at the very least, I found it easy enough to set up and use, and the whole thing isn't too complicated. The magnetic phone holder can be attached and removed at will so that you can keep the arm folded while in its pouch (or case -- I might get an actual case at some point, just for peace of mind), and the arm also has an onboard tripod that slides out and back in when you need it. It was very stable when deployed this way on my desk, even when my cat decided to jump on said desk with the kinetic energy of a comet, so as long as the arm is powered on, the gimbal will do its job and keep your phone stable.The instructions to install the app are clear enough, and the app itself, once phone and device are paired, runs a tutorial to let you test what each button does, how to orient your phone, start filming, and so on. You don't have to use the app for filming, feel free to use your phone's native app or anything else, but it's still a nice addition to have for sure. The tracking so far seems to be working pretty well, and is quite accurate (though I mostly film in my home, so there isn't so much movement going on). I also think it doesn't rotate a full 360°, though it's not that far from it.I'm still discovering new things whenever I use it, and it's been a lot of fun to use: it looks to me like a good product of a higher standard than what I've been filming so far, while at the same time remaining fairly intuitive. I think it can be pretty useful for filming travel videos, but also for streaming and daily influencer content, without having to invest in a ton of more expensive professional gear.
