I'm a major bibliophile and magical fantasy is what I always read. This is not only a book with the best twist on vampires I've ever read, but it is also filled with magic and mystery and treason and treachery. Kings, Queens, magicians, sorcerers- even interdimensional travel!! I've read every vampire, werewolf, witch and wizard and faerie book I can find but this series is definitely at the top of my Must Read list. Review: Overall great book - The beginning of this book is a lot of slower pace investigation into a new world and new magical systems. I really enjoyed it because the "attaining magical resources in a low magic world" is one I've been thinking about a lot lately. Later on Halar is drawn in to much more adventure both in his new home and old. It's a great ride that is unfortunately marred near the very end by a scene of great violence against children that (while making sense within context of the events that I'll leave out here) is unpleasant and I think makes the series unreadable for many. I will keep reading the series and enjoying them, but unfortunately with that one short scene I know my wife, for instance, would be completely unable to read this series.

wow!
Lots going on with this book. Not really much letting off the gas as it moves along without giving you much time to get your bearings. A couple of new and interesting characters as well as a few favorites from before. Some complicated concepts that get explained well enough to help the reader comprehend but not get bogged down by what goes into the magic spells at once making things believable and moving the story along in a satisfying way. Looking forward to book 4.

Loved it.
So at the end of the last book I was very scared with where the story would go. A long drawn out escape from the basement? Would the whole thing be him fighting inside his own mind? I was so worried that a series I enjoyed would end up like that. I am SO glad I was wrong. The book starts strong and keeps a fast pace the whole way through. And its a LONG book. Which made me enjoy it even more. I have recommended this series to a few friends and I will continue to do so for anyone looking for an amazing series to read. Where is book 4?!

A vampire on the run
Poor Eric. He's gone from starting to build things and being torn away from his projects before they are finished, to never even having time to get them properly started before he's interrupted. No longer just busy, but rushed, sleep-deprived, and without sufficient time to process his emotions or even figure out what he wants to do, or who he is. Slipping between a high-tech alternative reality and a sword-socery high magic reality, we get self-driving cars and magical living mountains, and, of course, our sarcastic and humorous, but increasingly tragic, vampire. This book was just as much fun as the last, but the ending sure left me hoping this poor guy isn't going to be spat out another hundred years in the future with everyone he knows dead or aged, as before. If he is.. well, I'll still keep reading. I love these books, and I love Eric.

Child abuse and flirting with incest
Okay, I like a lot of this series but there are some really creepy bits and not in a good way. First, even though the MC is always going on about how protective he is about children he turns a blind eye to child abuse instead of using any of his numerous skills that could help. A person with no power at all could simply call the authorities. Geez. Then there is the whole you were basically my adoptive daughter and now I shag you situation. Then a scene were he bathes with his teenage granddaughter and she makes a comment about how hard it would be to find a better man than him while peering into the water of his side of the tub’s water. WTF!!!!! This author is very creative and much of the series is an enjoyable read even though the MC has some really messed up priorities and does some majorly stupid things it is worth the read but the creepy things with children and incest stuff needs to stop. Someone should have questioned the whole bathtub thing with the granddaughter at the very least when this was being narrated or edited. Just ick. Double ick.

good plot, frustrating MC
I am really enjoying the plot line and the twists and turns. I am not enjoying the frustrating MC and his infinite monologuing, specifically the paragraphs of questions. I understand he’s a professor, but it is tiring that he is so dense sometimes and over the same mundane things. He also can’t sit still long enough to get things done and that’s frustrating as well.

The best series of vampire books I've read so far!
Eric has quickly become one of my favorite characters! I love his dry wit. I feel that his character is super relatable. Eric is a antihero who I feel like I would be of the same sense of humor. I very much enjoyed these books with every chapter the cliffhanger you're anticipating more and more what's gonna happen. The books feel like I don't want them to end and when they do I can't wait for the next one . Super excited for the next one!

I find mary and how quickly and absolutely she became part of halars life out of tune with The first two Books. Also dislike her massively as a Charakter. Oh well one can hope she dies quickly.

This is probably the most interesting series I have read in a while. Garon Whited is obviously influenced in various degrees by J.R.R. Tolkien and Douglas Adams (Who I met when working on a project for him and Kevin Davies). In his words, "I've always thought comedy science fiction was something people would relate to". Anyway back to the series. I read Luna first and then was so interested in the author I dipped into the Nightlord series. Of course you can never really dip into something. It is either ignore or a full dive at least in my experience of literary gluttony. The explanations of all the processes may become boring to some and even I have skipped a paragraph or three. Yet it is the essence of the process with this particular storyteller. It also lends a legitimacy to the fantasy. A marriage of science and fantasy has never been so well observed. This is a unique experience for the reader. The explanations blow the lid off historical notions of vampires and magic but in a way that makes perfect sense. The character development is deeply revealing as is the multiple layers to the story. Parallel storytelling is almost non existent which helps simplify the complexity and depends completely on a single view which for me is at least, refreshing. If you don't like a cliffhanger ending then be prepared that this will happen in this installment but it didn't bother me as all aspects of this series has cliffhanger aspects sewn in. This installment is my least favourite of the three as it seemed to get lost within itself and the protagonist was below par in logical thinking processes. My review is more of the series as a whole. The length of each book is generous and it has taken quite a commitment of time to get this far quickly. I am pleased to have time to spend some time cooling down as Bronze needs after a speedy journey. I recommend this book and series due to its uniqueness and compelling storyline. An epic that even Tolkien himself would have appreciated.

OK.. first of all, if you have not read the first 2 then STOP! Get them in order and it all makes much more sense. Secondly... see my review of book 5, no spoilers. Thirdly.. I can agree in some way with some earlier reviewers, this may not be the best in the series, but.. it does contain things that are relevant in the next. Maybe a little bit heavy in places, but, with books the size this author turns out, you can be excused for skim reading the occasional paragraph or two, and still have plenty left. Keep going and and I assure you it is worth it ;-)

moves the plot forward and introduces new and interesting elements, would love for this to develop into series as it seems to be, but with length of the novels a wrap up next book should be interesting.

Unsure if I've already reviewed this story but irrespective of this I will say this, it's one of the best books I've ever read. Thank you and I hope the forth comes soon.
