TV Box S 3rd Gen - 4K UHD, Google TV, 32GB Memory, Dolby Vision & Atmos, WiFi 6, HDMI 2.1, Fast Streaming, Compact and Powerful

I bought the Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) as a workaround for ongoing media playback issues on a modern Samsung Smart TV. The TV panel itself is excellent, but its built-in software (DLNA/USB media handling in particular) proved unreliable and inconsistent. The Xiaomi box has been rock solid from day one. Setup took minutes. It outputs a clean 4K signal, handles 1080p content beautifully (the upscaling is noticeably better than the TV’s own processing), and plays everything I throw at it without drama. Local media playback via apps like VLC/Kodi works exactly as it should, and streaming apps are fast and responsive. What really stands out is consistency. No disappearing files, no random “content cannot be displayed” messages, no reboots or resets required. It just works. Bluetooth audio (headphones) is stable, picture quality is excellent, and the interface is far more polished and predictable than many TV operating systems. In practice, this has turned my TV into a dumb display — which is exactly how I want it. If you’re frustrated with flaky “smart” TV software, this is a simple, inexpensive fix that genuinely improves the experience. Highly recommended.

Great little android box, does everything you’d want it to do, very lightweight and doesn’t take up much space. Very responsive and easy to set up.

The smart features on our living room TV were getting incredibly slow and laggy. Plugging this box in completely solved the problem. The Google TV interface is fast to get between apps with minimal fuss. Setup was basically just logging into a Google account. I wish the remote didn't have branded buttons on. It's a faff to reroute them using third part apps, other than that the performance of the box itself is brilliant.

Perfect addition to my AV setup - after certain apps got blocked on my lovely Firestick this was the ideal replacement. The remote is very nice and the UI is responsive so all is rosy again….except I can’t seem to find BBC iPlayer in the App Store so the firestick is still useful.

Edit - Having problems so dropped the score from **** to * - might have to be sent back after a couple of days. It keeps showing the USB stick but seeing the media and I have to take the usb stick out and plug it in again. Not good. With Kodi installed, this is a go-to choice for playing your media from USB stick. It took a little while to get it set up properly but with Kodi installed, this is a go-to choice for playing your media from USB stick on your TV via HDMI cable. If your USB stick is reformatted with exFAT then not only does it mark what video's you've watched but it also lets you delete media that you no longer need. Google TV is built on top of Android TV/Android with a customised UI and content-focused interface from Google but if you are like me, you'll probably be spending most of your time in the Kodi media player. I struggled a bit to get it set up the way I wanted it, despite a lifetime working in IT, but chatGPT's your friend here as she will answer all your questions while you are completing the setup. The remote control has a top quality feel to it, as good as a Roku remote. I'd give the Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen a rare (for me) five star review but there are no AAA batteries supplied (it needs two) and almost unbelievably, it needs a European travel adapter (EU → UK) to power from the mains so you may as well order one of those at the same time. Note that a European travel adapter (EU → UK) is slightly different from a shaver adapter.

Switched up from the 1st gen, and the initial setup was a bit more complicated than in the old one. Still, the difference is on a positive side; all vids play smoothly as they are supposed to. Couldn't care less about the lack of an ethernet socket, as I have used wi-fi since forever, and the lack of optical audio is nothing since I connected my soundbar to the TV via HDMI-ARC. One thing to be aware of - the search bar kinda sucks, as for now, and doesn't show some apps even though they're compatible with the device (MX Player, for example). To bypass that, you simply need to install them on the device with your phone (after choosing the app from the Play Store).

Great picture quality, easy to operate but doesn't pick usb when usb debugging is enabled in the settings.

It's a little pricey so I took a chance like most people & I was very pleasantly surprised how much I liked it that I'm thinking of getting a 2nd one. Definitely take advantage of he mic "Google voice assistant" on the remote. Believe it or not, it's one of the best feature on a android tv box. You can be watching something else & ask about the weather or ask what's your favorite team's score it pops up fast automatically on the screen in detail. Instead of looking it up on your phone. Good picture, decent display, easy customizing & adding apps with the 28gb is a breeze. Even though it's not top of the line android box. It does a good job streaming unknown apps.. If you don't like something you can change certain things & certain settings around . Ok.. What I don't like is the short wire adapter plug. That's ok, I got a extention cord etc... No batteries for the remote, buy some ahead of time .. I definitely don't like the remote like for the most reasons people here complained about. That's ok.. I got a cheap white onn remote that I paired up to the box (hold home & back arrow at the same time. ). Changing the remote was the best thing for me. It's now more enjoyable way navigating around while talking Advantage of a android box steaming function. I definitely recommend it

5 Sterne Ich war ja erst skeptisch, weil diese ganzen kleinen Kisten oft heiß laufen oder die Software nach zwei Tagen einfriert, aber die hier ist echt eine coole Box. IPTV Aufnahme auf einen USB Stick funktionieren gut. Der Anschluss war sowieso total easy, quasi Plug-and-Play. Kabel rein, kurz warten, läuft. Die Verbindung ist dabei absolut sicher, kein Flackern im Bild oder plötzliche Reconnects... das ist ja oft das größte Problem bei diesen kompakten Lösungen. Die Box ist wirklich kompakt, verschwindet fast hinter dem Standfuß vom Fernseher. Das Design ist schlicht, was mir gut gefällt. Für den Preis macht man hier eigentlich nichts falsch, wenn man eine unkomplizierte Lösung für seine Aufnahmen sucht. Würde ich mir definitiv wieder zulegen, weil das Gesamtpaket einfach stimmt und sie nicht so billig wirkt wie viele Konkurrenzprodukte. Passt alles. Was mich wirklich irre macht ist die RückTaste auf der Fernbedienung. Die liegt nicht wie gewöhnlich am linken Rand der Fernbedienung sondern in der Mitte. Das hat zur Folge das ich ständig links drücke und dann in ein völlig wildes Xiaomi TV komme. Aber das ist mein Problem....die Box ist super!
