If you liked Skins Series 5, you'll like this book
Essentially it's a prequel to the series and is set during the summer before they start at Roundview. It's easy to read with the narration switching between the various characters, frequently in a single scene which makes it easy to put down and pick up again. It fills in some of the background of the characters but doesn't give away any major secrets though it does explain more clearly some of the motivations of some of them. Nick, for example, comes over as a nicer and less superficial person than you might imagine. We find out that Grace has just joined old friends of Mini and Liv shortly before the start of the book and is still getting to know them rather than them being a tight threesome as it first seemed in the opening episode of the new series. They also know who Alo and Rich are. Matty doesn't appear at all but we do find out what triggers Frankie's move to Bristol. Some other characters are introduced with one in particular whom it would be good to see in the next series. This is Rhodie, a likeable deaf girl who doesn't speak, and who makes Alo's few days in Newquay very memorable. This is a light and quite aimiable read, pretty much like Season 5 as a whole really, so if you liked that then...

You should make it very clear of what book it is, I thought it was about skins not the deadest series there was!

A prequel to the third generation of Skins
Set before the latest generation of Skins this book almost serves as a prequel to the fifth series. The characters are all captured quite well and do indeed feel like slightly earlier versions of how they first appear in the show. The author does a good job of developing the characters into their initial TV personas by the novel's close. However, the attempt at making this novel fit into the context of the programme imposes restrictions on character development. It means most of the characters are a little unlikeable because we are not allowed to get to them too much due to the risk of jeopardising their development during the show. This makes it quite difficult to sympathise with them. Matty doesn't even make an appearance and Frankie's storyline is completely detached from the rest of the novel. But their absence gives the author the opportunity to showcase other teenage characters such as Zayne, Skylar and Rhodie. The third generation of Skins was probably my least favourite group from the TV show but this novel serves its purpose in strengthening and adding depth to the characters.

As expected...
If you like Skins, it's a must. The writing is okay, the plot is fairly good. Getting back the Skins crew for a few days, is PRICELESS. I wished it would go on for a thoushand pages. :)Don't expect Dickens, expect the perfect summer read with the familiar caracters. You won't be disappointed.

This book is awesome!
I'm a huge fan of the show. I bought this book with high expectations, having read the previous Skins novel. I was not disappointed. The characters are all in character, there is a lot of interesting storylines that we didn't know about and there is a lot of fresh information to be offered. Most definitely worth the money for any Skins fanatic like me!

I'm a big fan of Skins and I was so excited when I had learn that they made a book based on it. The book arrived on time and I'm enjoying it so far. Any fan of the third generation of Skins would enjoy it.
