This camera is packed with features that make it easy to capture stunning photos and videos, whether you're a professional photographer or a hobbyist. One of the standout features of this camera is its 40x optical zoom, which is accompanied by an optical image stabilizer and zoom framing assist. This means that you can get up close and personal with your subject matter, without worrying about camera shake or blurriness. The zoom framing assist is particularly helpful, as it helps you to keep your subject centered in the frame, even when you're zooming in or out. This means that you can capture stunning footage in incredibly high resolution, which is perfect for creating high-quality videos or time-lapse sequences. In addition to its impressive video capabilities, this camera also features a 20.3 Megapixel CMOS sensor, which delivers sharp, detailed images with accurate color reproduction. Quality and Easy Camera
This is a high-quality camera that is easy and convenient to use. I am looking forward to using it when we go on our next trip. I have been pleased with my previous Canon digital camera and believe this will be a big improvement.

Excellent camera for birdwatching, understanding its inherent limitations
I am beginning birder, and chose this camera for its long zoom (960 mm 35 mm equivalent) and its compact size. I did not want the expense, weight, and bulk of an interchangeable lens camera, or of a "bridge" camera. Because the SX740's small size and light weight, it's been easy to switch from binoculars to the camera to take pictures. (I "wear" it on my wrist with a strap.) I have had the SX 740 for about two months, and have taken about 30,000 pictures with it. I am very satisfied with the camera, and would buy it again. At long distances in reasonable light, the camera at highest zoom can take images of small birds that are acceptable enough to help me identify them. Images of larger birds at closer distances are great (see photos). I use Program mode, with spot focusing, auto ISO, and servo AF (continuous focus). The SX740 uses the same battery (NB-13L) as my Canon G7X. As a bonus, the battery lasts significantly longer in the SX740 - most times I can go two hours taking lots of pictures without battery change. Having said the above, potential purchasers should understand that this kind of camera has inherent limitations. Overall, pictures taken at high zoom will not be as sharp as those taken with a quality interchangeable lens camera. By strict eBird picture quality criteria, photos I take (usually at high zoom) are in the 1-4/5 star range, average high two's - still generally acceptable for upload to eBird. People should not expect that every high zoom picture will be good. I take multiple continuous pictures by holding the shutter down, and I can usually get at least one good picture that way. The SX740 does not have a viewfinder - the LCD screen, even at the highest brightness setting, can be hard to see in bright daylight. Finding a small bird in the bushes on the screen can also be difficult - the Framing Assist (zoom out) button can be helpful in this situation, but not always.

Too complicated - I just wanted to point and shoot
I have bought 4 of these Canon cameras, and used them all constantly, because I travel a lot. This one is just more than I wanted. I just want to point and shoot, use the zoom, flash, down load my pictures to the computer etc. Instead I got something too complicated that does more than I need and drives me crazy trying to learn how to use it. If you want all the features then go for it, but I wish I had bought something else. I had very little time to research, as I had gotten my last Canon wet and was soon to go on another trip and just bought the best rated small Canon on Amazon. This one is heavier too. I know younger people than I might like this, but we had to download the instructions from online too. The paperwork that came with it was not enough. Even my much tach savvy husband does not like it. We just had almost the same camera and nothing about this one is like the last one and we loved it. Wish I could get my $ back. edit: We have owned this now for 8-9 months and we still do not like it at all. We do not think it takes near as good of pictures as our previous Canon cameras and this one was more expensive. I wish so much we had not bought this piece of junk. I also wish we had not bought it at Amazon, because we might have been able to go back to some place like a camera shop or Best Buy and asked for help with it. It is heavy too. edit: still the worst camera ever. I hate it so much.

Excellent Travel Camera
When I want professional quality photos I use my canon 5D Mark IV with Canon “L” series lenses. You won’t get this caliber of photo quality from the SX740 HS. Nor should you expect to. And for up close everyday photos, it’s hard to beat my iPhone 14 Pro (the one camera I always have with me). But for situations in which I’m to far away to use my iPhone and I don’t have my 5D Mark IV and a telephoto lens handy, this camera fits the bill very nicely. When I travel, I am normally not on a photography adventure, just a vacation but always take a lot of pictures for the memories. It’s great to have a mega zoom camera that I can carry in my pocket to cover all situations. Camera focus is fast and accurate and I can always dial in the best exposure I can get (when I have the time I always prefer to go “manual” and choose the shutter speed, aperture and ISO. When I don’t have time, “auto mode” usually gets you close enough to dial in during post processing. I also am very impressed with burst shooting capabilities to capture action shots. Up to 10 shots per second and am very impressed with how it maintains very accurate focus. In most situations, picture quality is very good but not professional quality. All in all, a near perfect travel camera to have along with my iPhone.

Great for snapping zoomed in or out, predictably lens is a little slow
This model stood out at best buy as the best compact high zoom camera. It took clearer pictures (of boxes on a distant wall) and snapped then quicker than anything else I tried—a must for capturing birds, which I often like to do. The hitch was that they didn't have them in stock at the store, and I was leaving in vacation the next day. Amazon totally saved me with 8am next day delivery (even though it snowed a bit. I sometimes wish they would relax about delivery times, but in this case it was awesome.) The articulating screen was also a really good feature for me, as my arms are unusually weak and unsteady, and that lets me brace on my wheelchair arms while framing a shot, much of the time. Arm fatigue was not bad, although this one is heavier than the Lumix camera I had. I do miss the lens ring from the Lumix for fine adjustments of a chosen setting. As with many cameras of this type, the lens is a little slow, but I'll take that tradeoff for less bulk. It is capable of great macros, but the autofocus gets in the way. Manual focus can get you extreme close-ups, but it's hard to tell what the focus is from the screen. (Maybe I need to figure out some more settings, I may have overlooked if this camera has focus lock similar to my old Lumix). I'm also a fan of the rapid shooting modes, but not the way this seems to get reset on automatic after changing to another mode. The phone app also works pretty well, a little better than the Panasonic app did on my last camera, but not drastically better.

You can trust this seller!
I was super nervous buying from a third party but it delivered perfectly! The camera came with a wrist strap, battery, and a charger. The quality of the camera is AMAZING! It’s simply incredible. I would 100% recommend buying from this seller.

Great utility/functionality for the price point
I used to do professional sports photography so I have a very high end Canon DSLR and several (mostly telephoto) lenses, but that setup just isn't all that useful for everyday walking around due to size and weight. I also try to avoid using it in situations where it might get damaged such as fishing in saltwater with a small boat. This, on the other hand, is pocket sized, easy to use, has a great zoom range for it's size, shoots really terrific video in decent light, and is inexpensive enough that if it gets damaged it won't break my heart. The auto focus is good, but I find a bit better clarity with center focus. I've given it a good shakedown with both with still photos and video, and am pleasantly surprised by the video quality, except in really low light (here's an example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DNoUHPmIxc). As Canon users already know their smartphone app is unintuitive and clunky, but it does work okay once you get the hang of it. All-in-all it's vastly superior to a cell phone camera and nearly as convenient. I'm glad I got it.
