Finally have a backup cam!
2011 4Runner, it doesn't have a backup camera. Finally decided to use this since a friend said there are solar and wireless ones now and so I gave this a try. First things first, on a 5th gen 4runner, to lift up the liftgate, this solar camera when mounted to the license plate WILL block the handle. I didn't feel like mounting it to the lower portion of the plate for a few reasons, but I was able to modify the AUTO-VOX bracket slightly to still use it in the top 4runner plate holes. I essentially flipped the camera mount upside down (like you would if mounting to the lower holes of the plate), positioned it just low enough for the top holes to work, marked and then drilled two small holes and inserted two small bolts and nuts through these top holes so that the mount would rest on these bolts so the camera mount woudln't tilt as you close the liftgate. The other thing is the way to tighten the license plate down now is sort of blocked by the camera and battery pack, so I swapped out the license plate bolts to M6 (same thread as the lic plate bolts) so you can tighten it down from the side using an open-ended wrench. This method has been secure and is holding up. Slightly less convenient that just slamming your hand up into the liftgate latch, but if you go from the side (in between the liftgate latch handle and the camera), it works fine. One reviewer said it takes a minute to connect -- not so in my case. I counted 5 seconds before you get your camera and monitor to pair up when you hit the button, not a big deal at all. Maybe his setup has more interference but with a 4runner if you mount the monitor onto the center console/dash area, it's totally fine. There is also no lag.I didn't like the dash mount this came with, but noticed the ballhead is the same 17mm ballhead that all cell phone car vent mounts use, so I bought just the vent-clip ballhead and mounted it to my air vent instead. It's just a better spot than on top of hte dash IMO.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FX7BL84?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_titleOne thing is this method makes it look like you left your cell phone in the car, but hopefully since it's horizontal, it will look a little less like a cell, and since it's not in a cell phone holder's cradle, perhaps that helps too.Used this for the 4runner's 12V charger and it fits perfectly in the lower cubby hole (which I used some sticky mat material so it doesn't slide around. This socket adapter still lets me use IMO a better/more powerful charger than the one included with the camera. I have the camera's cig lighter plugged into this device instead and charge my phones using this same device and not the camera's plug.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1MR5VDT?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_titleYou can use these clips to neatly tuck the wires along the side of the radio console:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BFNP4W9?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1You can likely use smaller ones if you'd like, but these worked for me as I also route wires for an Auxbeam controller along the same path. One thing to mention is the guide lines obviously don't turn like they do on a factory camera's, but I assume that's going to be true with any aftermarket one.

Excellent service & high quality product
I bought this camera + monitor set to give me a better forward view for the lower part of my car as I need to enter a super narrow/tight space during car wash, which I’m quite struggling with.Since I couldn’t find this product available in Australian markets, I contacted the head office and beyond my expectation, the representative (Ms. Gigi) assisted me so well (before & after purchase).I found it is a high quality product (came in the box with everything you need including instructions). It’s very easy to setup, so far just need 1x charging through the provided usb cable, then the solar function will renew the battery charging afterwards. I used several cable ties to mount the camera to the front grille. Connection between the monitor & camera is using bluetooth (just need to follow the instructions & ask Gigi if you’re not sure of something). The camera also giving me a clear view & the monitor size is good (the product included a monitor stand, so no need to buy extra).Overall I’ve a very pleasant experience with the service & product. Highly recommended.

Works ok, not without flaws
I have a work car with horrible visibility out of the back window, no backup camera. After a little research and reading some reviews i bought this one, and wanted to share my thoughts on it.First, the camera mount. Its horrible. None of the cutouts match the US plate hole pattern. I got it mounted with a little bit of engineering. (And i wanted it sit as high as possible not to obstruct any portion of the license plate). The monitor. In no way, shape or form its 1080 HD. Once you turn the display on, it takes a moment to display the picture. Not too long, a little annoying. I do understand wireless has its limitations. The mount that came with display is absolutely unusable, and i ended up using a GPS mount that I had.I also had trouble connecting the camera to the display. The manual said it pre-paired, so i tried pressing the camera power switch on a few times, and it worked. The distance between my car and an obstacle behind it is somewhat hard to judge, but thats every backup camera. This display has guide lines with different colors to show the distance. I didn’t really see if they are accurate.A lot of reviews described lag, which I didn’t experience, it was relatively smooth while reversing. The “4 claw” mount on the back doesn’t match any of the mounts ive seen. Many other reviews said the battery stopped working 6 months to a year from installation. I feel like this is a good amount of money i paid for it to stop working that soon, so if that happens, ill come back to update the review.Overall, it works. I drive in NYC a lot, and with horrible visibility out of the back, and not able to run wires, this is one of the better optionsUPDATE: less than a week later, i was trying to back up and it was lagging really bad. It was completely unusable. It started working fine a little while later, but it proved to be unreliableUPDATE: the seller read my review and sent me another camera, along with a few installation pointers. I installed and paired the new camera, so far no lagging issues, hopefully it doesn’t show up later like the old one did
