Topper: Volume 1-2

On the whole this is not at all good. Normally, I don't review the quality of the system, but here it is the entire thing after all. The videos are terrible. They stop and start and you lose a lot of the content. The fact that they are grainy is something I sort of expected from an early 50s TV show, so that doesn't bother me too much, but the fact that the DVDs just don't seem to work (and other DVDs I have do, so I figure it isn't my player) is a major disappointment and drops this down at least one start or one and a half.Of the show I was able to watch, it seemed please and cute enough so on content it would be a 3 star rating, but given that the carrier was so bad that it was unwatchable it is not worth more than 2 stars barely.

I purchased this for my dad for his birthday; he was delighted by it. I thought it was kind of funny, too.

I wish it was of better quality. But It is understandable that these TV shows were black & white & a long time ago. However it brought wonderful memories which I could now share with my children & grandchildren. I am grateful to have these DVD's. I am very pleased.

When I was young, I loved this show on Television. I truly thought that the stuff shirt "man" of the house" was very funny and acted the part of Topper very well so when I saw they were available I purchased it. I stil love it. The acting is understated and his reactions to the "spirits" are really quite funny. The supporting cast is excellent, as is the script. This is better then the Cary Grant movie (which is enjoyable, just different). If you saw that you will enjoy this. This is not for everyone however as times have changed and I am not sure that all will see and understand the humour in it however it is well worth a try. The video is old however I found the series to be fine to watch.

Classic old Topper show, difficult to find even on Netflix. The only bad part is the picture quality on this set is about what you'd expect on YouTube or less. Compression artifacts abound, (worse than YouTube in some places) and the contrast is poor. Head switching error at the bottom of the screen. They didn't put much post production time into these DVDs. They needed to be adjusted for contrast and expanded slightly to get rid of the crap on the edges. Still, an historical look into TV around 1953, and that in itself is interesting. Packaging is better than the product inside.

These episodes were of course TOP NOTCH, but I was so dissappointed that there were only four episiodes per DVD. Somehow I thought these were complete seasons. Any baby boomer who remembers sneaking into the living room late at night (with her big sister, while their mother slept innocently unknowing) to watch reruns, would be thrilled to get ANY episode. The episodes themselves get as many stars as there are stars available. They lose one star for leaving me wanting MORE...
