Windows PowerShell Cookbook: The Complete Guide to Scripting Microsoft's Command Shell

Good. Not for the un-Windowed.
Needed these tricks. Did not have time to search online, had time to read this book between air-trips. Definitely needed this knowledge, before switching all of our machines into 10. Almost all of the information is available online, at this time, but clumbsy & slow to access. Microsoft makes it especially hard, other sites are way faster.

a real diamond
OK, I am usually quite critical. But this book does what it says. Essentially there are many different problems and solutions given for those problems. It addresses many things that are better handled with a fully working example. Sometimes a stock solution/example is the best thing. Many things are tackledfrom the lack of inter shell history to how use modules. Great.(One note for the author. You should explain how to allow web downloaded scripts to be modified. A warning is given when trying to run them telling you that it was a downloaded script. )

I mean....yeah...
It answered my questions and offered insight to other questions I didn't know I had. Dry reading, but I wasn't ordering a salacious romance novel, so that was kind of expected.8/10: Did what I wanted, arrived in a timely manner, but it's a technical manual. (Duh)

Great guide book
BIG THICK BOOK!!! Talk about information, I use this as more of a guide for ideas and commands than I do a read through. Has a decent set up to powershell at the beginning that explains some basics but then it jumps right into it.Perfect for someone who is dabbling into powershell and has some base knowledge but wants to learn way more.Only downside is it doesn't cover anything in PS4 or the upcoming PS5 since it was put together for PS3

Well written book that allowed me to write scripts from day 1
I am a scripter and programmer from a previous life, but I have little knowledge about Windows Powershell. The book is well written with a great index and good examples of projects that a scripter might need to use.

Good buy
When it said used, the book was only opened a few times and not really used much at all.

A great Powershell Reference book - very organized and clearly explains the scripts provided. Wouldn't be my first choice in regards to a beginner book as it covers the basics very quickly, however, I feel this is a must own for Powershell users who intend to further their scripting skills.

A good tome to have
A good tome to have. Helpful cross-references appear with each 'recipe.' Good appendices. I was hoping to see more in-depth recipes using Active Directory module commands. Still, a good book to help one piece together a solid script.

Excellent coverage and structure (but maybe get Kindle version)
Probably the best programming book I've ever bought. Huge amount of information, well structured and great tips. Just wish you get an online version with print but nobody does that. My advice is, if you don't need a paper copy, buy the Kindle version as you never know when you need it and it's big. My mistake.

Consiglio l'acquisto.
