A first airplane ride can be very exciting! Watching planes take off and land, going through security, walking the jet way, finding the right seat, watching out the window as the plane taxis down the runway, and flying up high in the sky and then, at the other end, Grandma waiting with a hug! Nancy Speirโs acrylic illustrations deftly interpret the wonder and joy of a childโs first plane-trip adventure. Review: Off We Go - Have you gone in an airplane trip? What was the most exciting ? The author, Patricia Hubbell, has written a fun story about a little boy's airplane trip. This little boy and his family received a card from gramma. She wants them to come to visit. So, off they go to visit gramma, but it will take a long time, so they will go by plane. They pack, get in their car, drive to the airport, take their tickets to the counter, go through the screening process, find their particular gate to wait until it is time to get on the plane. When you read this book you will discover what happens next. Adults will enjoy reading this book to their children. The children will have all sorts of questions about flying on a plane. They can discuss their feelings and then discuss if they are afraid and how to deal with ,this. The author takes us through the steps it takes to get to the plane, and then what happens once you are on the plane. There are some things you can do on the plane, and then we can see what goes on. This is a good thing if you have never been on a plane. The illustrations by Nancy Speir are bright, vivid and colorful. They depict the adventures of the little boy and his family. This is an informative book for all. Recommended. prisrob 06-04-17 Review: Cute book - This was a great book to prepare my toddler for the plane ride. It covered EVERYTHING from arriving, walking down the tunnel, and snuggling with his lovey. We took the book on the plane and he loved following along with the process. Cute pictures and easy to follow stories.

My daughter asks for this book every night!!
I bought several airplane books to help prepare my 3 year old daughter for a 12 hour flight coming up. This is her first plane ride and I wanted to help her know what to expect. She LOVES this book, she loves that there is a grandma at the end to greet the child, just as in her case, we are going to visit her grandma in South America. She loves the catchy phrases and nice big pictures, and is starting to memorize it and know it by heart which is so cute. OUt of the pile of about 5 airplane ride books I bought, this is always the one she grabs and says, "read my airplane book." The cost is a little higher than the others but way worth it, since it really strikes a cord with her. I think she would like this book even if I hadn't bought it for the reason to prepare her, I think it is just pleasing to kids with the short, catchy phrases and big, bright colors. Very pleased! The only reason I did not put 5 stars is that I wish I could find a book to address some of the negative things that we might/will encounter like waiting, getting hungry, going potty in public restrooms, not staring at other passengers, not yelling or whining, getting tired, strange noises and cramped spaces....and somehow put a positive spin on it like....but it is all worth it to see Grandma at the end of the long plane ride! Yes, it's fun and cool to ride in an airplane but it's long, annoying, and there are rules to follow as well, a good lesson for kids to learn from.

Great book to read before a trip!
I love the size of the book, the drawings are nice too, the colors, and most importantly the simple and direct messages. We are going on an airplane in the next couple of days and this book really helped release some of the butterflies my 5 year old had about flying. Highly recommended!

Great for prepping kids for a flight!
This was such a great book to prepare my young kids for travel on an airplane. We read it numerous times in the weeks leading up to the trip and at the airport before boarding (and again before boarding for our return flight) and there were no issues because they knew what to expect! We even brought a toy airplane along with us just like the boy in the book! A simple story perfect for young kids (mine were 4 1/2 and 1 1/2 when traveling). Definitely recommend.

Great way to prep my 3 year old granddaughter for1st plane ride
Purchased this for my 3 year old granddaughter, who took her very first plane ride recently. My son and daughter-in-law read it to her for a few weeks before their trip. My son said he felt it really prepared her for the trip. Always looking for a way to make things more enjoyable for them, and this book did the trick!

Great story to prepare for travel, terrible quality
I bought this book in July to prepare my 2 year old for her first flight. The story is simple enough that she enjoyed it from the first read, but can be enhanced with conversations along the way about what your child can expect in their own experience. There is a page in the book that describes sounds and movements of a plane, and as we were taking off on our flights the following month we went back to these sounds and movements. My daughter was comfortable on all the flights she took and I think the familiarity and preparation that this book contributed to went a long way. The problem is with the book binding. The book has super cheap glue binding. By October (3 months after purchasing), pages started falling out. Iโve taped most of the pages in at this point, but the result is that the pages are all a bit misaligned now. Itโs frustrating as a parent to find a book or toy your child really enjoys, only to have to be constantly fixing it or wondering how long it will last.

Super book!
My 3 year old grandson has flown many times. He loves this book and asks for it to be read again and again. I like that it uses the correct terms for the activities involved in airline flights. It describes packing suitcases, check-in, going through security, waiting at the gate, walking the jetway, flight attendant safety instructions, and much more....all in short words with colorful, simple illustrations. Best of all for me is that the little boy in the story is flying to visit his Grandma!
