The Nightmare Before Christmas: Easy Piano (Easy Piano (Hal Leonard))

As some reviewers have noted of the original Piano-Vocal edition, the music from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is exceptional, but also rather difficult to play. For those who just want to play these familiar tunes without having to dedicate hours of practice time, this edition is a good alternative. Even though these pieces are simplified, the sound is still a step up from the typical "Easy Piano" book.Overall, these arrangements stay true to the original score. Unfortunately, there is some hacking done. "This Is Halloween," "Kidnap the Sandy Claws," and "Oogie Boogie's Song" all lack their intros and are abridged elsewhere. One other possible con is the staple binding. It's been my experience that staple bindings tend not to hold up very long.On a last note, for anyone purchasing this book primarily for "Sally's Song," I would recommend  Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: P/V/G (Piano Vocal Series) . It's probably the easiest song to play in that edition, and you owe it to yourself to have the best version of it. It's not out of reach of the intermediate player.

The book looks so slick and pretty. I can tell by the way that the music is written that it is definitely for people with less experience playing complex pieces. However, I think that the book makes the player switch hands too often to follow the melody. For instance, instead of making the main melody played by only the right hand, it makes you switch back and forth from the right hand to the left hand. And considering that--for the most part--your left hand is in bass, the melody keeps changing from high to low pitch, which sounds inconsistent and inaccurate to me. Besides if you practice one hand at a time, it's harder to hear the song if one hand only gets half of the melody, and thus a little harder to play since you don't know what you're listening for anymore.

Great condition, arrived as promised, love it.

One of my piano students wanted this book for the sole purpose of learning This Is Halloween. He was really disappointed when he saw that that particular was not the entire song. It was only 3 pages while all the other songs in the book were 4 or more pages.

Even in the "easy" book, these are difficult pieces, because the harmonies and the melodies are so different. Because the students love these pieces and know them so well, they will work diligently to master them. What more can a teacher ask for?

It has all the music from the movie, it's easy enough for my daughter, who barely knows how to read music at all, to learn to play and become a better musician in the process, and it's visually appealing as well. As others have commented, the only drawback is that it isn't spiral so it doesn't lie flat, but I knew that when I ordered it.

My kids *LOVE* this music. It's different sounding than most of the crappy kid's music in their beginning piano books. They enjoy feeling like real piano players, and hey, it sounds good! You can tell, if you are quite familiar with the music, that this is indeed a simplified version, but it still sounds pretty good.

All in all good book. Some songs harder than others, but with a little practice you can get through them. Good fun!

Everything about this film is amazing. Having the music is excellent. A must have!

One of my favourite books to play! I love playing What's This and Sally's Song. The book is clear and the level is just right - easy enough for me to get a grip, but challenging enough to encourage me to improve, and of course I love the songs!
