"ABSOLUTELY A MASTERPIECE"
THE BAND: Bruce Dickinson- Vocals (Amazing vocalist with a unique voice) Steve Harris- Bass (Arguably the best heavy metal bassist around) Adrian Smith- Lead/Rhythm Guitars (Great melodic, bluesy solos) Dave Murray- Lead/Rhythm Guitars (Great shredding solos) Nicko McBrain- Drums (Awesome drummer) THE TRACKS:The album contains literature quotes, songs about famous books/movies fusioned in great heavy metal sound.Masterfully produce and mixed by Martin Birch -Where Eagles Dare:Repeats the story of the same-titled Clint Eastwood movie. The song starts out with a pulse-like, emotional beat, and is followed by a heavy and catchy (although predictable) riff. The drumms sound amazing -Revelations:This song starts out with a hymnal passage of some sort.Is an atmospheric song, that manages to be both dark and beautiful. Bruce's performance here is amazing. -Flight of Icarus:The most emotional song of the album, that was so good that people that are not into metal at all tend to like it very much. The pre-chorus/chorus kind of runs together in an awesome display of underlying bass -Die With Your Boots On: This song is probably the one that suffers the least from the hard-rock guitar.Good lyrics, amazing drums, the vocals(Harris and Smith do some nice backup, by the way)are among the best, and even the guitar is unique in this amazing song. -The Trooper:This is one of my favorite Iron Maiden songs ever. The call-to-arms opening riff and the galloping bass lines fit so well with the lyrics of a soldier's futile battle that it brings shivers to my spine almost every time. -Still Life:Is one of the songs that most benefits from double guitars. The chorus are simple, but don't deny the power this song holds over your ears! -Quest For Fire:The most anachronistic song of the disc. The voice of Dickinson reaches the high notes of all the album. -Sun and Steel:Other great song, incorporate some galloping rhythms into it, which is always a plus for me. -To Tame a Land:In the grand tradition of epic closers. It's based off of the book "Dune," which I haven't read. But the theme is evident in that Egyptian scale also found in the band's title track to "Powerslave," so you'll get a feeling for it. ****FINAL NOTES***: I BUY THE "RAW POWER" IMPORTED VERSION CD FOR ONLY $4 BUCKS,WITH THE SELLER "BIG BOX BARGAIN",THATS WHY I LIKE TO BUY IN AMAZON.

Vinyl audiophiles: a tale of 3 pressings!
I have 3 pressings of this vinyl: a clean original from 1983, a new copy of the older remastering, and the 2015 remastering released on vinyl in 2025. I compared these 3 versions on a $9000 stereo. The older remastering is flawed by having the vocals on side 2 skewed off to the right very badly. Don't buy that one! The 2015 remastering released on vinyl in 2025 sounds absolutely fantastic. Steve Harris's bass is brought out in the mix in a welcome and improved way. Wonderful. Then I played the original from 1983. The 1983 pressing does not have a good a sound quality as the 2015 remastering. The sound is more in-your-face, not in a good way. No doubt about it: the 2015 remastering released in 2025 is definitely the best sounding vinyl release of Piece of Mind!

Iron Maiden in their prime
Iron Maiden - "Piece of Mind" (1983) - "Piece of Mind" is Iron Maiden's fourth full length album and first album to introduce drummer Nicko Mcbrain. In fact, all the members of Iron Maiden that played in the band when this album was recorded are currently playing in the band. The album is similar to "The Number of The Beast" yet a little more progressive in nature. Many of the band's well known tracks are on here such as "Revelation," "Flight of Icarus," "Die With Your Boots On," and "The Trooper." After releasing "The Number of the Beast" some religious fanatics accused Iron Maiden of Satan worship, which of course, is bogus. Well, in between "The Trooper" and "Still Life" there is a backwards message in response to these accusations telling people not to meddle with things they don't understand with a nice loud belch after it (or before, depending on how you look at it). The lesser-known songs on this album aren't just fillers, they are also well written and put together songs. Bruce Dickinson shows off his vocal range in this album on songs like "Quest For Fire." "Revelation" is probably my favorite song off this album as there are many changes in it from light to heavy. One thing I like about Iron Maiden is they write songs with a story to tell and this album is no exception. There are songs based on mythology, history, war, and so on. I like the message from "Die With Your Boots On' which is basically saying no matter how much crap is going on, don't go down without a fight, at least that is my interpretation. This is a must have for any fan of Maiden. [...]
