HOVERAir Beacon & Joystick Set – Lightweight Motion Controller with Real-Time Display and Safe Flight Features for Cycling, Travel, and Outdoor Filming

I’m a first time drone guy. This was a great piece of kit to add to my pro max.

The HoverAir X1 ProMax has completely changed the way I capture family memories, hands-free launch and auto-follow mean I can finally be in the moment instead of just behind the camera. The footage of my kids running, biking or celebrating special moments is smooth, cinematic and the picture quality is awesome. I also purchased the HoverAir Beacon and JoySticks and I’m truly impressed by the innovation and quality, they make controlling and tracking the drone so much easier and unlock features I didn’t even know I needed. I did have a small hiccup with the Beacon at first but HoverAir’s customer service was responsive and very helpful, which gave me confidence in the brand. The HoverAir X1 ProMax combined with the Beacon and JoySticks, is a must-have for any parent who wants to capture life’s special moments in a cinematic way. Highly recommended!

First of all, I love the drone, because of that, I thought I’d spend more money and get the beacon set. The package arrived in one day but the box looks like damage with water or some kind of liquid . Then the incredulous installation process started… I thought this would be an easy one. This is now the 5th hour, and it’s almost midnight, I researched everything and everywhere, I cannot make this to be compatible with my Hover X1 Pro Max. The buttons on the beacon does not responding to pushing pressing or anything. ChatGPT said I need to get the newest cover APP however there’s only one APP in Apple Store. And when you try to connect the beacon with the hover. It clearly shows that you need to hold both side of the center button on the drone and wait the light to turn blue, and then put two item next to each other to pair, but the next picture on the beacon installation video shows a drone model that is completely different from my X1 Pro Max( see my photos) no matter how many times I tried the beacon and the links icon are all gray, not green. That is after I upgrade the firmware on both, and calibrated the joystick, but the buttons on the beacon are not responding!!! So far, it’s a lot of money spend and a lot of time invested but completely worthless. And the beacon is too damn small, even for a girl’s hand. Let alone used to by a man with big fingers. The screen is touchable and laughable, because it’s too small and too buggy and two confusing. This is a major design flaw. You had to go left right up and down to get things back to where they are. There are so many versions of tutorial online. None of them are most updated or at least get my working as promised. Either I received a faulty item that is damaged during transportation or this thing just now compatible with promax.

This is a must accessory for the x1 drone. It works, and there's actual support for it. WooHoo!

phone doesnt fits inside, with or without its case. Expensive for the drone and the controller, if thats what you want to add. Id suggest looking at DJI neo 2 , does what this drone does too, im also getting that drone. For the combo, there isn't a discount, just everything is included. If your getting the beacon alone might as well get the controller to have that extra control. Becaon takes some getting use to and the beacon doesn't go back, swiping left doesn't always do it. While i will say having manual control is nice, its unfortunate all ai and avoidance is disabled, I get it thought. I DO LIKE THE CONVENIENCE OF THIS DRONE, WHERE IT IS FOLDABLE AND JUST PULL IT OUT. CLIP, THE CONTROLLER TOGETHER AND CAN BE FLYING IN A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND GET A COUPLE OF NICE SHOTS. Since its ai would be could to allow object tracking, like if I wanna track my dog or rc car without clipping the beacon on it. While it is new, seems they have been updating features as ive written this review. While it looks impressive on paper and demos , my use of it is different. First of all, I want to say that I love its design: it's very small and lightweight, and all the blades are closed, so you don't have to worry about crashing into something and breaking them - as is usually the case with drones that don't have closed blades, the foldability is awesome .I also like that it can follow you, and look forward to this technology being perfected so I can say it's really worth the money spent. But to date, unfortunately, this is not the case, at least as far as this drone is concerned. Have the pro version, i added on the beacon down the road and they haven't fully linked since day 1 , tech support is an ai robot that doesnt help, the tracking is very early and fails constantly. The first thing I didn't like was that the battery lasts for 10 ish , maximum 13 mins . I initially thought about buying some more spare batteries, but when I saw the price of them, I changed my mind, and went back and forth and decided to get the power bundle pack anyways ( which isn't a deal when buying everything separately is a hair cheaper than all together, directly from manufacturer website) so got the bundle in hopes that the beacon functions as they have advertised.the drone by itself, had a hard time tracking me in multiple different times, with multiple different modes tested. The second is that IT CAN LOSE YOU very easily, especially if you are in the woods or in a parking lot among cars or any other objects. You dodge quickly and it's already following the tree instead of you - I was always afraid that it would accidentally follow cars that were passing by, or start tracking someone else instead of its intended tracking, even when trying to link with the beacon still doesnt help it follow you, the beacon just adds a mic functionality to your setup. The third problem, it has a bad sense of direction in enclosed spaces - by that I mean the same forest or parking lots or inside in a building. It might not see a tree or a corner and just crash into it, which happened a lot. When your drone costs that much, every drop / bump / or mis direct is a mini heart attack, especially when your letting an ai fly. BTW, it also can't go over water, which for me who has friends with boats is a big problem. I would really like it to be able to film my water travels. It would be more enjoyable to fly if the ai actually did what it should and follow. If its just the drones ai following you, its questionable and kills the fun very quickly, if its with the beacon , you now get to see it looses you in real time, the tracking isn't the greatest, I did alot of testing indoors because that was my main reason for purchasing this drone, and indoor follow while a near feature from this company still struggles, you have to walk like a semi make wide turns and it still loses you inside, you try to make a uturn by it and it doesnt know what to do. And lastly is the video quality; Its pretty decent good 1080 maybe 4k output. I feel like they dont know the difference in their drone saying well thats only available on the pro max version vs what you have which is the pro. Yet your videos say it for the x1 pro / pro max. This drone, while impressive, doesnt hit its mark for its price point, I also picked up the dji neo2 on Amazon, for way cheaper than this setup ( or even cheaper than any bundled item available from hoverair for this drone) . And will confidently say, this new dji is amazing, it does what the x1 pro claims to do and way more and better. It has gesture control, voice control, actually follows you. Almost the same size, just doesn't fold, but same footprint. Id say if your on the fence, go with dji . Still one of the better drones. While this drone is good, still needs alot of ai work to be great. So far I will say the company has been rolling out firmware updates and have added some new features, so its possible promising that it can be the drone they show it is.

Works as intended and never have any connection issues. Better than just using cellphone connection.

Having purchased the Beacon to upgrade the flying experience of my X1, I was hopeful that this would all work. My initial attempts to forge communication between the drone and the Beacon failed. I googled the situation, only to discover that others had, had similar experiences. The firmware upgrades needed were not possible via the convential means. This searching also unearthed a PC upgrade approach using a software tool called Flykit, available from Hoverair support. I messaged support with precise details of firmware on the Beacon, X1 and the app version currently deployed, together with serial numbers. Within 12 hours, I received a detailed response with a download link to Flykit, and instructions regarding how to use it. Bingo.....success! From the jaws of despair, I was rescued, and will remain eternally grateful to Hoverair's support department for their prompt and precise attentions. Oh, and the Beacon has made a huge difference, especially for a biker like me!
