In expensive but nice monitor with an oddity : HDMI port without any built-in speakers or audio-output? What's the point?
It's 1.8" bigger than my existing Samsung 22" monitor TV. 1.8" makes things a lot better. it's well designed monitor with cheaper price tag. Probably it's cheaper because its hey-day is almost over : People look for bigger monitors nowadays. However, on a desktop I think this is right side. If bigger, it will give dizziness. One odd thing is that this monitor, 23.8" version, doesn't have any speaker or audio output jack. What's the point of HDMI then? HDMI is for delivering audio and video. DVI-I will be sufficient for this. Audio signal comes out from a computer will hit its dead-end. Also, it only comes with a VGA cable. Shouldn't it at least have DVI to HDMI cable because it has an HDMI port as well as VGA cable, or it should have DVI port with DVI cables. In the case of Samsung 22" monitor TV, it comes with many different cable, but DVI to HDMI calbe is included. The DVI to HDMI cable has audio pass-through. So, If you connect it to HDMI port on a computer side, although HDMI to DVI cable is used on a computer side and DVI to HDMI cable on the monitor side, audio is played on the included speakers on the monitor TV. Interesting 27" version of this Dell monitor which has different model number (SE2716H) has an audio output 35mm jack and dual speaker. Then having an HDMI port makes sense.

Perfect for my work
I use this monitor to write my thesis, and I wanted to leave this review for others who are looking for something to work on, with a lot of text. I'm not saying it's not good for other purposes, it's just that I only use it for this one. And I must say, It has proven just the right decision to extend my to-date sufficient 13" macbook with this great monitor. I find it perfect for handling several documents and programs at once; the width and height are both more than sufficient. It has a steady and comfortable display; my eyes can now relax, and working for long hours is far less tiring than before. It does make a huge difference to me. Fonts and pictures alike are very clear, and I like the matte finish very much, as there are no reflections on the display.

Fantastic for the price would recommend
I thought these are awesome monitors for the price. I have bought over 30 of these for different offices around the country. Never had any quality complaints and I’ve even used 4 of them in my own office for 3 years. Never had any issues with them. They look great and have good color calibration. Unlike other monitors at this price the monitors lined up look exactly the same. No variance in the backlight, colors look identical, brightness is the same, black levels match. It also has excellent viewing angles you can see the monitors clearly. 10/10 would recommend.

Great monitor for what you can buy it on Amazon for!
I've had this monitor since May....I use it mainly to help editing my photography hobby, but am using it more for work related functions as well. It is an amazing monitor. I've always thought highly of their monitors as I have used them in some form or fashion for years and the last set I was using for my job I had a 2 monitor setup and they were both 6 and 7 years old, still going strong. Dell monitors will last you awhile - I have one in storage that the only thing wrong with it is that the power button finally went (atleast when it broke it was in the power on mode!) but I can still use it, just can't turn it off - it will still go into power save. one thing though to keep in mind, these monitors DO NOT come with a 3 year replacement warranty. Since this model does have a Dell service tag, you get 1 year - there are still monitors from Dell that come with that 3 year replacement warranty but those are ones that don't have a service tag, which is starting to become harder to get

I HIGHLY suggest you do a LOT of GOOGLE research on manufacturers BEFORE buying!!!
The first SE2416HX we bought failed within a month ... but Amazon, predictably, made good on this purchase, and they sent me a "new" one, 2nd day air, that arrived one day early (today). So far it is working OK. The picture provided, compared to my old 40lb 17" monitor is just astounding. An attractive shiny black carapace with a picture SO crisp, SO clear as to be unbelievable to an old guy like me. But after having a bad experience with a BAD monitor (the first died less than a month after delivery), I elected to spend a little time investigating and found that ... AND THIS BEARS DIRECTLY ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS MONITOR ... Dell's reputation for quality has taken a PROFOUND hit for the worse. Almost EVERY SINGLE review I read had to do with failed equipment under a warranty that had decreased from what used to be Dells standard 3 year warranty to a now very insubstantial 1 year, or even as little as 90 days. I should have read ALL of the details, and with much, MUCH closer attention to detail. The situation with Dell truly looks grim. The new monitor arrived today. So I haven't had a lot of time to evaluate the whole system ... computer AND monitor. My suggestion now (and I USED to recommend Dell) is that if you are thinking about buying a computer, read the details of EVERYTHING ... closely ... and DO NOT take a sales rep's word for anything ... get it in writing ... and that you do EXTENSIVE research to find out which manufacturer is getting the most complaints, and THEN go buy from a different manufacturer. But as bad as this review sounds, I've got to say this ... I've said it before, and I will say it again ... as many times as is necessary, to as many people as will listen ... nobody ... and I mean NOBODY ... does Customer Service like Amazon does. Amazon's Customer Service is the ONLY reason that this review got as many stars as it did!
