good way to test tethered swimming, not the most efficient setup
My last tethered swimming setup finally broke from too much time in the pool and sun. Of all the systems I've used over the years, this one works, but is not my favorite. I am using this in my backyard pool when swimming for fitness so I don't have to stop and turn so much. The pool is about 36' long, and so I couldn't get a good grasp of how effective the parachute is before reaching the wall. But for the swim belt, you need to put the other piece on that holds the D ring you clip the tether to. Then you secure the pole connector loop - I secured mine to the railing of my steps. The tether line is a hollow bungee, which you clip to the loop and your belt. When swimming, the tether would catch or rub against my feet or the back of my calf. The loop on the belt will also shift and if you aren't straight try to go sideways on the belt, further pulling you to the side. When doing something like breaststroke, you can feel the tether bungee pulling you backwards when you glide, so you do move forward and back a little instead of in place. So this system does work and will allow you to static swim - but it does take a little getting used to the different feel on your stroke. I think this is good as an inexpensive way to test out if you will actually like static swimming and will do it before investing more money in a little better setup.

Good for the Money
This is a good quality chute for swimming resistance work for the price. The only downside is that the strap holding the chute is not adjustable.

Not for young swimmers
Belt was way too big and complicated. We returned and purchased a different one. Didn't seem fitted to a young person at all. Coach said to return.

Resistance Training Hurts ...and ouch my shoulders are killing me.
There are 2 ways to set this up - attach to some strong support (like a ladder) or use the parachute.I am using an HOA pool so I can't attach to the sides of the pool. I've tried using the parachute and a single lap 25 yards there...and back again....raised my heart rate and slaughtered my shoulders. I know I'm still a novice but these are a bit like trying to do weighted pull ups when you haven't yet mastered body weight kipping pull ups. Once upon a time I could do those, but that was 4 kids ago I need more strength, and while this will help get it there, I'm probably not quite ready for these. If you are more than a novice, give these a try. Your shoulders won't thank you, but I bet your speed improves.

Effective swim resistance tether but not good for optimal form.
My family and I are swimming enthusiasts who usually use the local school or community 50m pools during summertime. Our backyard pool is only 10m long so we use a swim resistance tether when training at home.PROs:Well constructed, easy to assemble, and use swim elastic tether belt.Adjustable nylon belt with waist size ranging 25-45"Can be secured to pool rails or other stationary structures around the pool in many ways. Use your ingenuity.I use a 2ft. axle/towing strap with D-rings to secure this tether's webbing strap around the U-shaped metal base of our diving board.Includes a red nylon parachute for resistance training in larger pools.CONs:Effectiveness of pool tethers highly dependent upon position of the stationary object strap is tied to (higher the better to avoid obstructing swimmer's legs and feet), and the position of the belt (lower the better to keep feet near the pool surface).Swimming with a tether doesn't allow the momentum and gliding motion for a steady and smooth swim rhythm.Don't know if this tether's metal D-rings and carabiner clips will resist pool chlorine corrosion over long term use. Our old pool tether was all plastic.Metal parts are heavier may also scratch surrounding pool surfaces and objects.Elastic bungee is a hollow tube rather than a solid cord of our all-plastic tether.Use of swim resistance tethers and parachutes are not permitted at school/community pools.Overall:Swim resistance tether is only used at home when our local 50m school/community pools are closed.
