Clear explanations, with plenty of pointers
Usual, dependable Dummies fayre which if familiar, will be as recognisable in format as any other. This is a dynamic subject that is continually developing/evolving so the best a guide like this can do is give a contemporary snapshot of the subject, and this book is a good introduction to the field to get you up to speed. Clear explanations, with plenty of pointers, would recommend.

Just a bit too simple
I'm not a VR guru though I know some things about computing and coding, and this was way below my level and too pedestrian. If you know nothing about the subject then go for it and it'll probably be very interesting. For me, I had to give up half way through because I was bored.

Absolutely fascinating.
This is more of a 'heads-up' than a 'hands-on' book from the For Dummies folks - and it is a very timely one. As someone who has worked with computers since the time of punch cards, and PCs since they first came onto the market with their floppy 'hard drive' and the dreaded DOS prompt, I found this book both fascinating and amazing. Amazing to consider the massive change and growth that has happened in a little over 30 years - and fascinating to think about what the present and near future holds in terms of both function and sophistication. Like all For Dummies books, this one is easy to understand and enjoyable to read, even while it presents you with concepts that may have been beyond your wildest imaginings. If you are at all interested in AR or VR, this is definitely the book for you. I can't wait to travel the world from my sofa...!

VR & AR Guide
For those that know the format of the 'For Dummies' books, this one is the same - very comprehensive, a lot of words on a basic print paper, but equally very explanatory. You'll need to read it if this is a starter introduction to VR, as it's not that easy to jump in to the sections and only understand parts of it as it's laid out. As always though, it's comprehensive detail is really useful for understanding everything. The first half is almost a history, or a tech explanation of the terms involved with VR and AR, then the second half is slightly more on how you cn get in to working with it/building something similar yourself. A good book if it's the first book you're ever going to read about it.

Fantastic
Very well written and informative, plus incredibly helpful and effective. With no prior experience whatsoever of Augmented Reality, I was up and running in a few hours to a basic level, and soon got to grips with the rest of the book. I found it encouraging because it was so easy to follow, which kept me motivated and engaged.

A great resource
The 'Virtual & Augmented Reality For Dummies' is another 'Dummies' book laid out in typical 'Dummies' style. Full of useful information it is written in easy-to-follow language. It makes for a great introduction to the subject.

What has happened to Dummies guides? They used to be well-written with great graphics, a joy to read. This book uses cheap paper like newsprint that results in grey-scale photos. There are no good graphics. The writing is wordy and slow, doesn't get to the point quickly, and doesn't have interesting content. It's a waste of money. I recently purchased a gaming computer and want to acquire a VR headset to use with it. I'm not interested in games, but would like to try other VR contexts such as educational and historical VR videos; movies; creation within VR; and whatever else is out there. But I was happy to have an overview of the whole VR world, including the creation of VR apps and so on. So far I can't find anything of interest. It's boring and useless and not even visually appealing.

I know nothing about virtual or augmented realities so this book was a great read. It seems to be targeted for people like me with limited technical knowledge on the subject. It is well-written, easy to understand, and helped me gain a better understanding of VR and AR. Learning more about technology is key to staying afloat in todays job market. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about it.
