Emperor's Black Rice - Non-GMO, Whole Grain, Vegan - Rich in Protein and Fiber, All Natural (5 Pounds)

I bought this because I wanted to make interesting, non-boring side items to go with dinner. Unfortunately my package was delivered on my front porch in the pouring rain. I had to leave for about 2 hours for an emergency room visit. When I got home. There it was sitting in the pouring rain. The box was very soaked and falling apart. I got it inside, opened the box and there was my black rice and a 5 pound bag of purple rice, along with my True Lime packages. Remarkably one True Lime box was under the bigger rice packages, so it was not as soaked as the other items. I called Amazon and they quickly refunded my money, and told me to keep, give away or discard the items. The bag of purpke rice and the one box of True Lime was a complete loss. About 1/2 of the black rice was salvageable. So I was able to use a bit (maybe about 2 pounds) of the black rice.I was so bored with trying to cook something different, and new, and it's way too expensive to eat out with my bunch ! We eat a lot of rice and I thought that this rice along with some other new whole grain items I bought would make a more interesting plate. Trying something new would give us more options. The grains that I bought were black, and red rice. I already had quinoa, millet, buckwheat, white and brown rice, and wild rice. I made a blend of a little of everything, seasoned it up, cooked it in my rice cooker. My family really likes it ! It was really good and quite interesting. I've used this blend as a side dish, served with some cooked lentils and steamed veggies on top for a main dish on meatless Mondays. I've tried it in a chicken, grain and broccoli casserole too and it's been a hit. The water amount to use, and the cook time has been a test, but it's just a learning curve right now. It's been pretty easy to adjust. It's very healthy and I like experimenting to see what else I can do with it and all of the grains I've bought. I'll update, as I think of more ways to cook with it.

Delicious & nutritious

It is short-grain rice, whereas Rice Select is a medium-grain. It comes in a clear bag without any markings or instructions. I used the traditional 2:1 water-to-rice ratio, which took 45 minutes. Is that right? Who knows? There isn't a manufacturer, nor a way to contact the seller. It is chewier than Rice Select, but as I did not cook them side-by-side, that is only a feeling and not a fact.

This rice is so awesome! We also got a stainless steel small rice cooker and it’s perfect! Love this rice! It has a deep purple color and it taste wonderful!

It's ok, purple, but it's rice! Why they're gouging us all on rice,beans & ALL other grain product prices, is beyond me!!This is decent rice, cooks up good, price is lower than others.Good buy, imo! Beware.. this stuff stains everything!!! Your hands, clothes, counters.. Took two days to wear off purple stain on my hands! Tastes good though, just watch out for staining! lol

If you eat black rice raw, please find a reputable supplier. This rice doesn't sprout. Black rice is the only rice that can eaten raw if itsprouts. This rice is either gmo or it's dead. This is a rip off.
