10year old's view "brilliant and hilarious"; mum's view "entertaining, imaginative and clever"
The first Goth Girl book was recommended to my daughter by her friend and she loved it so much that she quickly worked her way through the next 2 and pre-ordered the fourth well before it was released. The fourth instalment has been enjoyed just as much as the first three and she's starting to re-read all of them and she's given copies to her friends as gifts. It's no wonder that Chris Riddell was selected as the Children's Laureate, as every detail of this series is perfectly crafted, from the bindings to the illustrations and the cleverly conceived narratives. These are proper books, in the sense that the physical book is as much part of the reading experience as the words on the page. Beautifully bound and illustrated and well written, with plenty of references to Gothic and Victorian literary characters, amongst others, the stories captivate the young reader and entertain the adult reader (if they're allowed the occasional opportunity to read to their child). With multiple references to literary classics, particularly from the era of the Gothic Novel and Romantic poets, these books also encourage the young reader to potentially read books that might stretch them a bit more. Yes, the references might seem slightly over-worked from an adult point of view, but it's no mean feat to achieve an attention-grabbing children's book that both entertains and subtly educates them and this is Chris Riddell's genius (in my opinion). My daughter identifies with Ada and her adventurous spirit and once she starts on a new Goth Girl book, she cannot put it down. We're already looking forward to the 5th instalment! From the point of view of a 10 year old they are a fun and easy introduction to the joys of reading a good book and have been declared "Brilliant and hilarious!".

A concise and well-written book.
I found this book to be quite enjoyable. The font is large and easy to read, and the narrative is straightforward and simple to follow. Although it is intended for a younger audience, I believe individuals of all ages would find it to be an enjoyable read.

Lovely book for a teen or an older kid who has a bit of reading experience..
I had to explain all the names and the meanings to my 8 yrs old and still not too sure if she actually enjoyed it.

A Gem
The Goth Girl series just gets better and better as far as I'm concerned. I love the humour and the fact that it can be enjoyed by adults as much, if not more than the children you're sharing the book with. The puns and names and allusions are all fantastic and ingenious. I love that Riddell put himself into this book too. Everything about this pleases me. It's a gem.

Another great book from Chris Riddell
Another great book from Chris Riddell. I reckon the hardback copy is always worth paying a bit extra for. Lovely illustrations. I'm impressed with this seller too. Really efficient speedy dispatch of the book and prompt delivery. The snow called a halt to all postal deliveries but this item got through. Excellent.

Wonderful
Have a love for Chris Riddell & Neil Gaiman. This book, like his others was excellent. Funny, entertaining and has nods to the adults who might be reading their kids books ;-) can't wait for the next in the series.

A wonderful little book
We love Chris Riddell's books and this one does not disappoint. This is a review of a 8 years old reader who insisted on giving it 5 stars: "A very exciting and wonderful book that can take your breath away in some places because it has a lot of unexpected and surprising things. And of course I loved pictures". I'd did too, and I might add that the book will also please an adult reader with funny, imaginative tale full of literary and musical references.
