Cautiously hopeful before release - after release, ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS MOVIE!!
My expectations for this highly anticipated movie were hopefully cautious. I honestly wasn’t sure about Ariana Grande as Glinda and didn’t know anything about Cynthia Erivo, but I love the musical, so I was hopeful. I was AMAZED!! Absolutely loved the movie at the pre-release showing and laughed hard, cried even harder and just loved the music!! Honestly as a singer and lover of musicals I was concerned about changing these incredible songs too much, but the changes were minimal enough that they complimented the pieces rather than overshadow them. Ariana & Cynthia were both fantastic and completely deserving of their Oscar nominations. I was happily mistaken by my Ariana caution and am now a big Cynthia Erivo fan. After viewing the early showing I immediately pre-purchased the soundtrack and then this disc as soon as it was available. I saw the movie in the theater 3 times (which I’ve NEVER done with a movie before), but this movie had me going back to a imax super sound system theater and then again for a sing along version. So much fun!The movie is also so incredibly powerful in its timing aligned to world/national politics and the dangerously growing trend of people ‘othering’ people they perceive as different than them. Hating, belittling, and bullying people that are different from oneself is wrong and only creates pain and anguish…for everyone. Propaganda is incredibly effective and can ruin communities, countries, economies and individual lives. The show only strengthened my resolve to critically think about concepts, theories, people and all info before I believe it.The extras in this hard copy disc are so much fun and I’ve watched them all. So glad I bought the hard copy (something I’ve not done for years). Excited for Wicked: For Good coming out in November! So while writing this I’ve got a playlist on with favorite songs and now I’m ’Dancing Through Life’ & ‘Defying Gravity’!

No One Mourns the Wicked?
Finally, I got to watch "Wicked". I found it to be a captivating experience, even though the story started out a bit slow. Once the pace picked up, I was easily drawn into the evolving friendship between Elphaba and Galinda. Their dynamic was beautifully portrayed and added depth to the storyline. The music in "Wicked" is nothing short of fantastic. I especially loved the songs "Popular," "The Wizard and I," and "Defying Gravity." Having known most of the songs beforehand, actually seeing and hearing the characters bring them to life was an amazing experience. The performances were top-notch and added a whole new dimension to the music I already loved.Overall, "Wicked" is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys a powerful story of friendship, good-vs-evil, and so many other important themes, coupled with incredible music. It’s a magical journey that is both visually and audibly stunning.

Wicked the Movie Part 1 from Nov 2024 DVD
Loved this movie. Its the first part of the story of Glinda the Good Witch and The Wicked Witch of the West from the classic movie, The Wizard of Oz - how they met, how they eventually became friends and got to Oz. The second part comes out in theatres this November 2025. Can't wait to see the rest. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are fantastic as is the rest of the cast. Also stars Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum (as the Wizard) and Jonathan Bailey. Worth seeing for sure--- so much so, that I had to own a copy.

A One in a Million Masterpiece 🥰
Alright loves, time for an honest review on Wicked - the movie:I started loving Wicked as a child, seeing it on Broadway for the first time in 2005. As a little girl, no older than 4, the colors and singing reeled me into a life long love for the play — of course, nothing can make it better than the orginal cast. The next year, I was gifted the Wizard of Oz movie and of course Ruby slippers (because what 5 year old can go without), allowing me to further grow my love of the Oz world. Seeing the play again in 2013, I feel in love with Oz as a whole. When I heard in 2015 that there was talk of a movie version, I was a tad skeptical. By 2019, when I read the book version, I was very worried which way a movie version can go.With covid and working in healthcare, I looked no further into the movie until late 2022, when I heard that Ariana Grande had been casted as Glinda from a theatre friend. As a girl who grew up on Victorious and her music, I became excited for the future of the movie. Cynthia Erivio, I knew less about, only knowing her via The Greatest Showman and glimpses I saw of Harriet. By 2024, my skepticism waned, and like any Wicked enthusiast, I went to the theatre with mild unease, but came out with joy.The producers and actors/actresses were able to bring the wonders of Oz to tbe big screen. With action, color, glam, this is a must watch for all ages. It combines learning acceptance, the power of friendship, all the great teachings of the play into one. While I can admit, I’m not the world’s biggest fan of muscicals, this is one I will cherish time and time again.Even in the first few moment’s of the movie, it foreshadows the second act. Spoiler alert: I love the Easter eggs to the Wizard of Oz. With the well known songs of “Popular” and “Defying Gravity,” I felt a part of the world, especially when watching the 3d version. Who knew monkeys flying out the screen would give such a crazy jump scare? 😂But no more spoilers. I hope you and your families or friends enjoy. Please note, some parts may not be child friendly — just because I saw the play at 4 does not mean your child should. There is nothing inappropriate nor language, but it can be overwhelming and mildly violent with some more adult references. The physical DVD wise:The 4k dvd is “ehh” at best. The colors pop, but the sound vibrates every time a song plays, catching on major notes and ruining the show for me. I believe it’s just the dvd’s manufacturing, as playing the same version on MovieEverywhere does not lead to this annoying vibration/lagging. And yes, I did try three dvd player’s and multiple tv’s to verify it was not my ears — all player’s that are meant for 4k dvd’s. The non-4K DVD worked fine. If not for the DVD’s issue, I would have given 5 stars.
