Great way to save your furniture & let your toddler learn
First of all - if your kid has already started to steal your pens, pencils or even to decorate your favourite book - you need this thing asap!I wanted something as a "first drawing toy" for my 18-months-old girl, because she has just started the above mentioned activities.I searched for a proper, old-school "magnetic drawing table" thingy. These are smaller, heavier and has quite special accessories to work with. Now, this Aquadoodle is: a BIG playing mat + you can buy spare pencils easily + you can "draw" with your finger and everything else which can be wet + has nice decorations on its borders + numbers and letters are prepared - so when my daughter gets bigger, she can practice writing as well.Only downside was the packaging: the mat was not well folded, so it was a bit crumpled - and we were not able to remove it totally. (However, kids won't really care with this, I think.)I purchased 2 spare pens together with this, just to be sure and I will purchase a smaller, travel sized mat fom Tomy.

An excellent product for young toddlers although the pen needs constant replacing
Its been nearly a year since I made this purchase. My 2 coming to 3 year old daughter made excellent use of this item.So why 4 stars? The mat itself is fantastic and is still going strong. The pen however, within a matter of 6-8 weeks the fibre tip had already worn out. My daughter probably spent around 10-15min per day doodling on the mat and I think the pen should last at at least 5-6 months. Of course the pen works based on pressure to release small amount of water to wet the fibres. But given that the product is to be used by 2-3+ ages, they should consider redesigning the tip of the pen.

Fab!!
Kids love it, I love it. Hours of fun - literally. And it's water in the pens, so when my toddlers turned around and drew on the walls before I had chance to open my mouth (as they do) I want bothered!! No ink on clothes, skin, surroundings. Fantastic idea. Good quality mat. Only turns blue when wet though (so all the writing / drawing is blue). Also bought the rainbow aquadoodle and that writes / draws multi/coloured, which is fab. Would recommend both. Bought extra pens so I could join in!

Timeless classic
I love this mat. It's an absolute timeless classic that provides a lot of educational entertainment. The mat is well built and has taken a lot of abuse. It allows you to be creative and free without worrying about mess. This is an excellent introduction to drawing etc without worrying about crayons being munched on. Or walls being drawn on for the matter.I particularly like the alphabet around the edge for practising letters.I can't rate this enough and out of all the toys etc I've bought for my lo so far this is one of our favourites.

We love this
Bought this for my daughter who was 16 months at the time and it went down a treat the first day. She loves drawing so this was great as she can just be left to draw as I don't have to worry about getting messy walls and floors as it's just water! I take this everywhere with us as it's so small and compact. 5 months on and she still enjoys using it and it's still in good condition considering it's used everyday. I would purchase this again for my son once he gets a bit older as I assume this one will need replacing by then.

Brilliant
My three year old daughter loves this and has done since she was given it a year and a half ago. Endless possibilities as it just dries out to be used again with no waste and LOVE the fact that it's just water in the pen so no risk of spillage or stained carpets! Really good size, my little girl can lay on it and draw and it folds up small to come with us when we visit friends or family (or go anywhere she's likely to get bored). I would advise buying a few spare pens - they're not expensive and will avoid heartbroken wails when one goes missing. Overall great product, definitely recommend.

Great simple toy
This is a really cool toy. When you write on the mat the colour that comes up is very vibrant. The only negative really is that it isn't really big enough - I bought it hoping that at some stage my 3 and 1 yr old could play on it together which they could but it would be awesome if it was twice as wide and long! Another goof feature are the letters round the edge which you can 'trace' with the water pen. Excellent writing practice!

Stress free messy play
Excellent for letting them learn how to trace over letters and numbers or just generally make a messy picture without destroying the carpet underneath. Making hand prints and foot prints is much less stressful as a parent when only water is involved! Keep them away with greasy fingers though as the surface starts to deteriorate and won't work if it gets greasy. Also try not to fold it too much as this also eventually damages the surface. Still popular even though some patches don't work well after hard usage. Can be used with the aquadoodle pen, paintbrushes, fingers, sponge shapes, anything really.

Brilliant messy play but with no mess!
This has got to be one of the best playmates. The "pens" that come with it can be filled with tap water and they temporarily turn the mat blue (you can get rainbow and other colours too ). As it dries it becomes white again and can be used agin. I like this mat as it has numbers and alphabet around the outside which really helped my daughter with counting and learning her letters. Good to play together or simply under supervision. Really pleased with this, and have bought more as gifts.

Fantastic quick, mess free activity.
Excellent mat brought one for my son 19'months and one for his cousin 16months . They are well loved and used, there is some drinking from the pen at times, so have to keep an eye out. Put apart from that they love it, quick and easy to get out which at these ages their attention spans aren't too long. Also worry free as you don't have the coloured mess on face, hands, clothes, furniture, dog etc. would definitely recommend this to anyone with toddlers.

Great toy
Got this for our 16mth old after seeing at a friends house. Hadn't realised how it worked until then. It is a bit like a small play mat which has a ring of pictures and shapes around the outside edge and a blank section in the middle. The middle part is a special fabric which you draw on with the supplied pen. You fill the pen with water and the water exposes the blue coloured plastic underneath the white fabric. There are also some 'hidden' pictures which can be revealed by the pen. My son loves to point out the different pictures and makes marks with the pen and all the adults who have seen it can't resist having a go! He hasn't got to the artist stage yet but can see that it will appeal for some time yet. Fabric is not as robust as I thought it would be so have to be careful putting it away as it is developing tiny holes along the fold lines, would still recommend though.

Essential toy for all young children over the age of 1
Had read many good reviews about this, and knew how popular it was with my friends' children - but was still slightly skeptical it would be gimmicky. How wrong I was. My 19 month old son LOVES this. He loves to draw and paint and this makes it very quick and easy to do (much less cleanup than paint and crayons - although we do still use those!). We use the Aquadoodle pen and a clean normal children's paintbrush with a bowl/cup of water for him to dip the brush into.Easy to fold up and take with.Brilliant brilliant brilliant. Cannot recommend this more highly!!The pictures around the side are great too for little ones just starting to talk, my son points them out and says the words of what they are.

never too early
got it for my 9 months old baby daughter and she keeps trying to chew the pen... other than that, i think it is a fantastic toy for her to try to `draw` and `write` something without any risk of `poisoning` her or making the place messy. Maybe i love the mat more than her. It is great for writing words and drawing pictures big for her to see. She enjoys stamping the pen on the mat to make some marks now. I think it is a very good buy (for me) and especially like the alphabet and pictures and numbers surrounding the mat. Am sure it will come very useful in the near future.

Must have drawing toy!
This is great for drawing with toddlers, easy to use the water pen and comes out very clearly on the mat. You don't have to worry about then 'eating' the pen end or getting messy so great to take out to other people's houses as it does fold down well. We also use it camping as easy play on a rainy day. I have brought a few a presents and always goes down well.

These mats are amazing for young children
These mats are amazing for young children, simply fill your water pen and away they go, with no mess! The mat never takes too long to dry out and they can start drawing all over again. There is also the alphabet along with numbers through the design around the edge, a great learning aspect added cleverly. I would say an extra pen could be included although these can be purchased as an extra.
