EASY TO USE DE SAFETY RAZOR
I'm in my 50's,and up to now, I've never thought of using a double edge safety razor, to be honest, having seen my grandad and great grandad using them, i always thought that they would a bit more dangerous than disposables or cartridges razors, you know, more likely to cut yourself, but i was wrong. I have two different cartridge razors and a electric wet and dry shaver, but the price of the replacement cartridges for those is a bit of a joke, sick of paying £16 to £20 for those, so, after a bit of investigation into safety razors, i decided to buy this Edwin Jagger exclusive to amazon safety razor, and what a revelation, so pleased i did. On opening the box up, and putting the razor together, i thought that the handle was a little short, but it's not been a problem for me, i can hold onto it quite comfortably, i don't have small hands, but i don't have giant hands either. Onto the shaving, i decided to buy the whole kit, brush soap etc, i got Proraso shaving soap in a dish for sensitive skin, it had good reviews, anyway, with a little bit of trepidation, i soaped my face up and proceeded with the shaving, and what a revelation, no need to be nervous about using this razor, no pressing, just let the razor do the work, after the first pass, the shave was easily as good as a cartridge razor, gave my face another soaping, and went over again, and I've got to say it's the best shave I've ever had, no nicks or cuts, and a really close shave, absolutely no need for any worries on that front. And the price i paid for this was actually less than a pack of cartridge replacements. Yes, i know i will have to buy blades for this, but you can get 100 for a fraction of the price, and, they're easily recyclable, being as they're all metal. To add, i don't shave every day, 2 or 3 times a week, and i don't have coarse facial hair, so for me this razor is great, for others, i wouldn't know, but if you are looking for a first double edge safety razor, from my experience i would 100% recommend this, a nice size, nice weight, good looking, easy to use razor, well made.

Excellent razor, easy to use and very good quality
Excellent razor - I'd never used a DE razor before, but I did read up on what to look for and how to prepare for a shave before ordering this. The initial outlay for razor, blades, brush, soap etc did seem quite a lot initially but this will quickly be recouped by the savings made by not buying the expensive 3/4/5-blade cartridges that I've been using for far too many years. Quite a few people recommended the Proraso range of pre-shave, soaps, brushes etc, so I bought these at the same time as the razor - very pleased that I did as I found the shaving experience to be so much more satisfying than anything I've tried before. Yes, it takes longer to shave than a quick hack-and-slash with a cartridge razor, but the result is much smoother and satisfying. Preparation seems to be key to a good shave - I apply the pre-shave cream a few minutes before lathering up and that works well. I was a bit nervous at first as I imagined it might turn into a bit of a bloodbath, but I shaved very carefully and avoided making any nicks at all - the trick is to avoid putting any pressure on the razor, just letting the weight of the razor do the job. I've been using the three-pass method too i.e. lather up, cut with the grain, lather again, cut across the grain, lather again, then cut against the grain. I sometimes omit the cut against the grain if I'm not bothered about a super-close shave. I'm so pleased that I've switched over to a DE razor - been thinking about it for a few months, but wish I'd done it years ago. By the way, don't worry about the apparently small size of this razor - it's beautifully weighted and is just the right size to give you precise control; a longer handle would just get in the way. Here's a list of the other products that I bought with the razor, just in case this helps someone:- Brush: Proraso Professional Boar Hair Shaving Brush Brush stand: Kent Shaving Stand Large Mock Ivory Pre-shave: Proraso Pre Shave Cream 300ml Soap: Proraso Shave Soap in Round Pot Sensitive - Nourish - Menthol + Derby Bluebird Rasierklingen Pack of 5 Alum block: Osma Tradition Bloc - Handmade Alum Block (Soothes Shaving Irritation) With Clear Perspex Case 100g Blades: I actually bought these on ebay as they were cheaper - tried the Wilkinson Sword blades first as they were said to be a good beginner's blade, and that's what I've found. I also bought a pack of Personna Platinum and Feather Hi-Stainless to try as well (not used them yet as the Wilkinson Sword blades suit me fine at the moment). Not sure why the razor is illustrated with Derby blades as none were supplied with my razor - I've queried this with Amazon, but I'm not that bothered about the omission. N.B. the alum block was a revelation - just wet it and wipe over the shaved area after you've rinsed off all the lather. This will ease any razor burn, and seal any nicks that you may have made; it stings a bit at first, but is very soothing. After that, mix a small amount of the pre-shave cream with water and smooth into the skin - this acts as a very effective balm and invigorates the skin (I saw a tip somewhere that it can be used as a post-shave balm as well, even though it doesn't state this on the packaging).

A great starter/try out safety razor - lasted me 3 years!
I decided to give "proper" wet-shaving a try back in early 2020 (accompanying the obligatory new facial hair), and plumped for this Safety Razor without too much thought, given the apparent value. As it's only just given up the ghost (thread gone) 3 years later and it's served me well, I think that's pretty good going! Pros: * Easy to use (though I can't speak for those who've never wet-shaved) * Easy to handle and manoeuvre - the smaller (7.5cm) handle turned out to be a surprising positive here. It also makes the razor a very easy traveller that goes in your sponge bag (obviously wrapped in something!) The knurling may be standard, but it's very effective. Never lost grip while shaving. * Safe during normal use - I hardly ever got any nicks except when rushing too much on angles. * Pretty easy care and looks good - in early days when I was more methodical about washing and drying it it shined up really nicely. Even when I became more lazy it looked OK - and it's really not difficult. Who knows? May have lasted even longer looked after better. * Easy to change or rotate blades. I can't compare with more advanced mechanisms like butterflies yet, but it's really not hard or dangerous given a little thought and care. Cons: * Quite tricky to clean out well during use, even with good water pressure on the tap flushing straight through it. There may be a technique, but my suspicion is that this is the down side of closed comb razors overall, unless they're quite expensive maybe. * Er, that's it! Definitely worth a punt in my opinion. I recommend getting a stand for it, as that clearly helped maintain it - I got the QShave Deluxe Chrome Razor and Brush Stand Holder (also Amazon).

An excellent razor
The first thing I should say is that the razor I received has vertical lines on the handle (not a knurled finish as advertised/pictured here). BUT it is still a great razor! I was genuinely (and pleasantly) surprised with the quality of this razor. Right out of the box it looks and feels far more expensive that it's modest price tag would imply. It's obviously very well made. The finish is excellent. The chrome plating is absolutely flawless. The weight is good (despite what another reviewer has said). It's well balanced and although it is a little bit top heavy I personally think that's a good thing as it helps you to "let the blade do the work" rather than applying unnecessary pressure while shaving. I have quite large hands, but I still found the handle to be a decent length and comfortable to use. I switched to using a vintage traditional straight razor a while ago, but occasionally when I'm in a hurry I've had to revert to using my old Gillette Fusion (which I hate as it irritates my skin). So I decided to invest in an inexpensive DE razor for those occasions when I don't have time to shave with my straight razor. I have to say this razor has provided me with some of the closest and most comfortable shaves of my life. I really could not believe just how smooth this is and I find myself opting for this now as often as my straight razor - even when I'm not in a hurry! I use Wilkinson Sword blades, but really that's just a matter of personal preference. As you would expect, this razor accepts any standard DE blade. Used with a good quality Best or Super Badger Brush and a quality shaving cream such as Taylor's it will give you an incredibly close and comfortable shave. If you're still using a multi blade razor such as Mach 3 or Fusion, do your face a favour and switch to one of these. In the long run you'll save money and right from the first shave your face will thank you for a very close, smooth shave and the lack of razor burn. All in all, this is a great "beginner's" Double Edge Safety Razor (although I'm sure seasoned wet shavers would also enjoy using this too). It's made in England, is an absolute pleasure to shave with and at less than £30 it is truly excellent value for money. Well done Edwin Jagger!

You can keep your multibladed Gillettes
These are truly lovely razors, the shave is somewhere between mild and aggressive so it does give a lovely shave, I regularly find I do not need a second pass even after a weeks growth, the shave is also comfortable. If you have long stubble you may find some gets trapped between the blade and the head like on the multi blades but unlike them, you can loosen the head and rinse. You also do not get the stubble being tugged by the blade. Build quality is amazing, the entire head is chromed with a mirror like finish including the insides which you only see when you change blades and it is flawless compare this to a Merkur or Parker where the shine is only on the visible parts. The handle likewise is mirror like, this does make it slightly less secure in your hand but I have yet to drop it or let it slip so it should not be an issue. One thing I did notice is that the head is identical to a Muhle R89 and the handle is the same size so if you have one, there really is no point getting the other but it is still an excellent razor for the price. Could you use this as a beginner's razor? Yes you could provided you remember that if you put pressure rather than letting it do the work, it will bite, so expect a few nicks, probably start with a duller blade like Derby with them to begin with before progressing to Feathers. Tested with Feather Blades D. R Harris Marlborough Soap Very hard water

Good quaity safety razor and easy to use for begginers.
I’ve got the Edwin Jagger DE86 version with the black handle. The design and quality are very good. It is much better than I was expecting to be. It came together with a box of 5 Derby Extra blades. This was not in the description, so it was a nice bonus. I’ve used the DE86 together with Astra blades. I am a novice for double edge razor shaving so I was expecting to get some nicks while shaving this way. I was nicely surprise as actually shaving with the DE86 was very easy and smooth and I did not get any nicks at all. I had more difficulties with using the soap and brush rather than with the safety razor itself. When I was choosing the DE86 I was also considering the Merkur 34C. I am glad that I’ve chosen the Edwin Jagger DE86. The price was nearly 50% less than 34C and the quality is more than I need as a beginner. I am not an expert, but the cutting is done by the razor blade not by the safety razor itself. The handle of the DE86 is longer than 34C. In my view any shorter handle can make the shaving a bit awkward. However, this can be a personal preference and a matter of using different techniques. I am very happy from the ED86. It is easy to use, looks good in the bathroom and can be an excellent useful gadget for a gentlemen. I recommend this item if you considering one to get. The long term cost of using a safety razor may be very reasonable compared with either an electric shaver or cartridge razor blades. One note though - more water is needed for shaving with the double razor blades. Water is not cheap these days and can add to the overall cost.

Fantastic Razor!
Super pleased with this safety razor. I've been a little nervous to purchase one of these traditional style razors, as I was convinced I'd cut myself to ribbons with one. I couldn't have been more wrong! So far I've not cut myself once, which was not the case with my old disposable razors that nicked me regularly. Not only have I not cut myself but gone is the ugly red bumpy rash I would always get using a disposable razor. My legs are finally smooth, bump and rash free. The shave is lovely and close so I'm also finding I'm not needing to shave as frequently. My regrowth is also becoming softer and less coarse with each use. The razor has a lovely weight that glides easily over the skin without the need to apply any additional pressure. Considering this is a "traditional" style razor, it's actually quite pretty to have on a little stainless steel stand in the bathroom. I love the purple handle as it gives it a nice feminine feel. This style of razor is so much better for the environment than the disposable kind that end up in landfill and eventually our oceans. This razor is of a high quality and I believe will last me a long time so I can reduce my plastic waste. The razor comes with a small pack of 5 blades to try it out. I was slightly disappointed that the blades come in a plastic case but I'm going to try and find a brand that do not for long term use. Come on ladies ditch the overpriced pink plastic ones and try one of these....you won't be disappointed and you'll save a fortune....as well as do a little bit to help save the environment!

In my mid40s this has changed the way I shave forever! Fantastic bit of kit
I wanted to get a few weeks of use before leaving a review, as I am new to DE Safety Razors. As a newbie I had some reading up to do: closed/ open combs, manufacturers, handle length etc. The Edwin Jagger had tonnes of glowing reviews and was stated as a good 1st razor. This "Kelvin" special Amazon edition with the knurled chrome handle looked really handsome and was super affordable. Installing a blade is really straightforward, and it came with 5 individual Derby blades which I get amazing shaves from. I would recommend checking out some YouTube videos like the GeoFatboy channel, for advice on angle to the skin, how best to prep your face, the whole idea of doing passes at different angles to deal with the hairs that grow at different angles. Was all new to me. The unit has a pleasant weight and the short handle makes it so easy to flip and maneuver. The knurling let's you get a nice grip. You dont press in with these, but let the weight of the head glide across the skin. Now in my 3rd week I am loving the results and grieing more confident and knowledgeable. I used to hate shaving, but now it's a wee quality time-out which I look forward to! And the results are like nothing I've ever experienced - super smooth. For me, this little beautiful instrument has been a game changer! I simply would not have believed the difference unless I'd bought it and researched technique on YouTube. It feels a million dollars afterwards. The Kelvin is a marvellous razor, beautifully made and even looks fantastic in the bathroom.

Lasts the test of time - Years of perfect shaves!
Picked this razor up years ago when I was first getting into the wet shaving scene. For years I had struggled with thick and dense beard hair that was impossible to debulk no matter what I did. Cartridge razors would leave me with hundreds of little red ingrown bumps and I felt like I would never be able to achieve a clean-shaven look without the eventual happening. That has no longer been the case. The Edwin Jagger De86 has been a huge help with getting a good shave in - it has a beginner-friendly design where the blade exposure is less aggressive in comparison to other safety razors. The razor also looks pretty sleek sitting on my bathroom countertop but looks aren't everything, luckily this razor has much more than that. This thing clears my face in a few passes and is hard to clog up with hair (no more making my face raw with multiple up-and-down cartridge razor passes). Cuts are few and far between and are usually because I am rushing, but if you take your time and do it right you will achieve an amazing shave every time. For beginners, I would recommend that you use Astra superior platinum blades with this razor. I have sensitive cut-prone skin and have found that the Astras provide a very clean and comfortable shave compared to a few other brands I've tried in the past. Take it slow with finding the right angle using your razor and you'll have it down in no time.

Efsane, yüzüm çok hassas, özellikle gırtlak altı her tıraştan sonra 5-6 yerden kanıyordu, taraklı pearl marka bı tıraş makinesi kullanıyordum, taraklı makinelerin en büyük özelliği aralıklı tıraşa Uygun olması,ama 8-9 günlük sakalı bile zor alıyordu,bu makine taraksız olmasına rağmen 5-6 günlük sakalda hiç tıkanmadı, gırtlak altı tertemiz yüzü hassas kişilere tavsiye ederim
