Pictures are worth a lot of words.
I bought this Tree Kote product to attempt to salvage a Maple tree which had experienced a severe split due to wind storm damage. The photo's show the actual damage to the tree, which was significant. The tree is in a neighbors front yard and they were out of town dealing with family medical issues when this damage occurred. The tree is very prominent and I hated to see the tree have to be cut down due to this storm damage. I ordered this product after reading on a University website about the need to protect the tree from excessively scarring and insects damaging the trees interior, in an attempt to protect and heal itself. This wound exposed the very core of the trunk where the sap flows and the moisture which sustains the tree is transferred within the tree from the roots up to the branches. The good news is that the damage to this tree happened nearly 3 months ago and the tree is thriving, despite the serious wound. The tree continues to retain all of its leaves, the leaves appear healthy and normal and the tree is growing (I marked it when I repaired it, so I could determine if it was still growing). This product is very easy to use with the brush mounted to the container cap. Even with a wound as large as this one, I used about half of the total container to thoroughly seal the tree's damaged area. I then wrapped the tree to protect it so it would have a chance to heal. The tree wrap I used is also shown in the photo with this product.I didn't expect this tree to survive this gaping wound, which was over 24" in length and effectively split the tree in half, in area of the tree where the damage occurred. I am pleased this product has seemed to help to save this tree. I now use this tree kote on the end of all limbs on trees when they are trimmed. It certainly seems to help prevent the need for the tree to scar itself as extensively to respond to the limb pruning and cutting. So far, the tree is thriving and I hope it continues to. The damage to the trunk of the tree certainly affected the area of the tree which transfers moisture up through the tree..............I believe coating the tree was instrumental in its survival and continuing to thrive. It was a small investment of time and money to attempt to save the tree and it appears to have been successful. You should use this whenever trimming and pruning trees. Just coat the area of the saw cut or the damage to protect the tree and permit it to heal itself. Also, make sure when you trim a limb against a tree's trunk, leave a little nub, about 1" in length instead of cutting the limb off flush as then the tree only has to heal the small cut, verses the potentially larger wound against the trunk. It permits the tree to direct its energy toward productive growth, instead of healing areas where cuts, pruning or damage have happened.

excellent product for tree wounds
yes. i use this product on a 60+ year old Pine tree in front of my house. it was slammed into by a drunk driver. this TreeCote is protecting it from getting sick and possibly dying.good stuff. only one issue. the brush could be made stronger with more brush to get the product out of the container

a lot of product and worked as noted
had a lot of deep gouges on tree trunk by front-end loader. used this. coated well, thick and was able to get into a lot of holes. do pay attention to issue of rain and dampness. hard to predict that where i live. did partially wash off when unexpected long duration downpour occurred. i recoated, nice weather, worked as specified. it would be helpful if cap brush was longer but pouring some out into a plastic cup allows good use of the included cap brush.

Works very well.
This feels like tar, and had to use gasoline to get it off my hands. However it works extremely well, and I'm sure it will last a long long time! I used this along with stretch tape and a brace to save broken branches of heavy fruit trees!

Like a tree medic in a bottle
Applies easily, just paint it on the cuts or open wounds of your trees.

Good product with terrible delivery system (Brush)
I like what I think this product is doing to protect my trees. I have not used half of the jar and the brush has failed. (Completely busted) There should have been some like a knife/applicator included. You could sell them separately and be sure is metal and not something that will snap/break with use.

Goopy, but works
I had to drastically prune back our French lilac because it suffered a lot of half broken branches after a nasty winter storm had started with snow, then rain, then the slush froze 10" thick, and the storm ended with another foot of snow on top of the deadly weight. The heavy load matted the nearly 9 foot tall bush into a one foot heap. The big box store only had the spray version of Tree Cote which did not work well on the thinner branches. Most of it got on the surounding leaves. Thankfully Amazon delivered the goopy version the next day and I resealed the many cuts. Now, two months later, the bush has sprouted a lot of fresh leaves alongside the cut branches which indicates a healthy bush. No insects got in. Come next year, after it has bloomed, I will be able to prune it into a nicer shape again. Bottom line: this stuff works great!
