Academy Award winner Denzel Washington stars in this 'riveting and powerful nail-biting thriller' from Robert Zemeckis, the Academy Award-winning director of Forrest Gump and Cast Away. Airline pilot Whip Whitaker (Washington) miraculously lands his plane after a mid-air catastrophe. But even as he's being hailed for his heroic efforts, questions arise as to who or what was really at fault. Action-packed, engrossing and powerful, Washington's performance is being hailed as 'a triumph' and one that 'will be talked about for years'. DVD Review: What Corners Need To Be Cut. Good Movie 94% Rating - I really like Kelly Reilly, been following her career for several years and am impressed with her beauty and her talents. Denzel Washington is a very talented actor too, I remember him the first time I saw him in the late 1980, he has just gotten better and better over the years, he deserves all the awards he has received. Before I give my review, I have to say that I am an airplane buff, I know a few things about planes; so, naturally I am going to be drawn towards watching a movie about planes. This movie is actually not just about a plane, it is about humans, relationships, addictions, and healing. This movie depicts the best and worst in the human characteristics associated with addiction. "Flight" is a movie that is based on a true story of Alaskan Airline's McDonnell-Douglas MD-80 crashed off the coast of Los Angeles in January 2000, 88 people were killed with no survivors. The mechanical problem on this plane was identical to what was depicted in this movie. This movie doesn't just reveal the truth about alcoholic pilots but also poor maintenance of airlines because it cost so much money to run an airline that corners have to be cut and most often that happens to the jobs that really matter. Did I like this movie? Yes. On a percentage scale, I would rate this movie 94% good quality in acting, screen play, and special effects. Did I have any issues with it? Yes. First, I thought the plane crashing and then suddenly stopping was too quick, a plane that size has to be flying over 100 mph that is around 48 yards per second, I would think the plane would have traveled much further after hitting the ground. I imagine this is artistic license taken by the director as a way of justifying the survival of so many passengers and the loss of so few. Second, the scene with Capt. Whitaker at the hotel, the unlocked hotel room door, and the fully stocked alcohol in the refrigerator was far too convenient, along with how quickly the drug dealer, John Goodman, arrived at the hotel to save the day; and again, I think this is taking some artistic license to help bring things to a climax, it adds tension and excitement to the plot. In reality, that's not what would have happened. But, I can forgive that only because I understand what "corners need to be cut" Review: Great movie - Great movie

Flight was great
All the comments about nudity are silly. It's just a scene to set the tone for the reckless lifestyle the pilot is living. Besides, Nadine Velazquez is quite beautiful in that scene. There are so many, but here are a few of my favorite scenes: The lead up to the crash. "We're gonna roll it." Washington and Brian Geraghty were brilliant in that. Washington for his cool control and Geraghty for his aghast yet still maintaining professionalism and executing commands. Harling Mays enters the hospital ward. Classic modern day pusher. Bling, blending in. Seeing Goodman with Washington brought back memories of "Fallen." You hate that cocaine is what makes them "buddies" in Flight, yet there is something about their relationship that also feels good. You know they have each others back. The hospital stairway scene with Washington, Kelly Reilly and James Badge Dale were great in that unusual scene. Dale philosophizing as a dying man was really thought provoking. His insight into why they had "accidentally" converged in that stairwell proved to be key to the rest of what happened in the move. Washington pays unexpected visit to his ex wife's home. Great scene showing how a drunk no longer processes decorum properly. Washington thinks he is being a great dad in that scene, but has actually brought terror into that home. I almost felt sorry for Washington in that scene. I knew he was lost when I saw it. Of course, like a good alcoholic, seconds later he was giving a sentimental statement to the press that indeed garnered sympathy. All the scenes with Kelly Reilly. Great actress. The British actresses Georgia peach accent was awesome. The real fun was racking my brain trying to figure out who the heck she was. I nearly kicked over the table when "Caroline Bingley" popped into my brain. Yeah, she plays a fairly raunchy character in the beginning, but there is still something pure about her and that plays out well in the final scenes. Washington finds the stash of booze in the adjoining hotel suite. Like a lot of viewers, I really prayed on that one hoping he wouldn't mess up the effort at staying sober. The long focus on that lone tiny bottle of destruction and then his hand swooping in to grab it was great cinema. Washington with Reilly outside her new job. Really a nice, hopeful, scene, but when she mentions the AA meeting, you know things are about to go downhill. The hearing scene with "Miss Block." All the great men sitting there waiting for Washington to put them back in secure positions. The press waiting to confirm him a bona fide "hero" but his love and respect for all of the women in the movie, especially Trina, Nicole and Margaret, overcomes him and he decides it's "now or never." Again, I was left a bit dismayed thinking about all the effort that had gone into patching things up for him, but the overriding thought was that him taking himself out of the sky with lives in his hands at the controls of jet airplanes was the right thing to do, despite the appearance that that is not why he did it. Overall, a 5 star movie for me because it was just so very different than any movie I've ever seen. Very entertaining and thought provoking.

Flight 2 disc combo on Blu Ray
Anyone reading this already knows what the film is about and has heard a myriad number of opinions on this and that, so I will focus upon only the actual quality of the film's transfer to Blu Ray and my rating is based upon that and not the movie itself. That said, I like the film though it can be slow at times, and the acting is spot on great. VIDEO..... The video transfer to Blu Ray doesn't get much better than this. There was no artifacting of any kind nor aliasing when in certain scenes both aliasing and stair stepping could have visually presented themselves. Color grading is fairly warm in appearance but very naturally so. Post production editors did not overly boost colors nor crush the blacks so your image is very lifelike in all scenes. No bleach bypassing either which has grown to be found in more and more films these days. You have to look hard to find the barest hint of grain and then it would be on walls in the background. Contrast is perfect, not too sharp nor soft and details in most dark scenes are readily identifiable Mbps rates seemed to average in the high 20s to low 30's depending upon the action in the film. 5 Stars for the video transfer. AUDIO..... I read elsewhere another reviewer's thoughts on the audio. He thought it was great. I was very disappointed in the audio transfer of this film. Much of a reviewer's credibility lies in how they see a film i.e. what monitor were they watching, what speakers were they listening through, did they have a stereo system or a 5.1 or 7.1 home theater setup, what is the quality of their amps, preamp and processor, Blu Ray player and speakers and subwoofer. I have a very high end, esoteric home theater and the audio of a film is just as important to me as the video. So I am okay with another person's contrary opinions to mine. For the film Flight, you are presented with a lossless DTS HD MA 5.1 audio and the lossless audio will always be better than a lossy one. However, while most of this film is dialogue driven there are plenty of opportunities for foley audio fx for the surrounds but the audio editors failed to take advantage of them. Almost all the film is presented in the front stage with very rare use of the rear stage. This might be okay for some but the big jet crash scene should have made you feel as if you were in the jet itself as it was going down. While the LFE channel got a great workout for this scene, almost all the audio was widely placed across the front sound stage with very little discreet directionality of that audio. It sounded as if the front left, center and front right channels were all getting the same info. Despite the lossless codec, this film's dialogue audio levels sounded too low for me, not because of background soundtracks or foley fx, its just that while most times the dialogue could be transparently clear, at many times it almost went to a whisper. An example is when Denzel's character is listening to a phone message. Yes, the message should have a different audio tonality but it should be loud enough to clearly understand. It not always was in both this scene and several others. I sadyl give the audio a 3 star rating at best. EXTRAS... Do you call 3 advertisement previews for other films extras? I don't. They force you to pay for advertising, which is what these previews are, and take up more disc space instead of leaving room for even less compression of the feature film. I really hate having to pay for previews. Other extras include a typical 'Making of', production origins, a panel discussion about the film which I haven't watched yet and a short doc on the crash itself. There are no out takes or deleted scenes. Also included is the Standard Def version on disc which is always handy and, IMHO, a worthless Ultraviolet serial number for downloading the film. I have never talked to anyone who likes Ultraviolet. Having the SD DVD is enough. All my reviews focus solely upon the actual quality of the transfer to Blu Ray and the disc itself and I do hope that this review has been of some help to your in deciding upon your purchase. Thanks for reading.

little action better story
I am a 12 stepper and herd about this movie in the rooms of recovery . I would not say this is a how to get sober movie , but those of us who have been on "Top" in our chosen profession only to have it come tumbling down this is for you . I liked the actors from other movies so this also is a plus if you are into recovery and new this may not be for you as there is lots of drinking drug use throughout the movie . If you have sober time under your belt and need a reminder of the lies, deceit we were all about in active use until the crash. In the end the mind of a good person takes back over and realizes enough is enough. For the lay person not fighting any addictions I am not sure you will understand a movie and the demons that are with this disease and follow us threw every waking moment and often into our dreams forcing use to wake up satisfy those demons to return to sleep . I am glad I bought this movie (prime customer) and have looked at it many times since ,every time I seel a item things start going great ,and the drinking thought pops in .I simply put this on within 20minutes I know I am glad to be sober today ,this movie reminds me and will you where you do not want to be if you take that drink,or drug again. I am not a writer but flute master today working a 12 step program and living one day at a time, I to was a professional in the medical field .today sober I rent a 10x10 room 8x10 work shop from the 3 story house I once owned . I can say I happier now there is no more of the confusion lies that went with the active addiction . This movie simply put with great acting reminds us we are but one drink from all this again Bob Crazy Bear Flutes

Flying high after watching "Flight"
Once again, a top-notch role portrayed by a top-notch actor and supporting cast! This movie leaves you gasping for more, in what becomes a bittersweet film about the essence of a man's fragmented life as an airline pilot. I have seen many reviews stating this film was a "bait and switch," advertising as one thing, but is actually another. I think that mentality comes from a person not reading between the lines, and making assumptions about a movie before they watch it. If anybody claims to know the caliber of actor that Denzel Washington is, they should realize that his characters always add another dimension or two to any movie he is in. The point is to never underestimate Denzel Washington's ability to breathe a visceral reality into any film. I will not go into much detail about the movie in this review, but I will tell you that this is not a story about a plane crash as much as it is a story of a struggling and flawed human being. This is the story about "Whip," a pilot who has become a drug-dependent alcoholic, leading to his wife divorcing him and the estrangement of his son, who he loves dearly. He is a man holding it together by a very thin thread, and by very unacceptable means. Despite his flaws, he is very good pilot. He is forced to make a life and death decision when a plane he is piloting malfunctions at 30 thousand feet. Because of his composure under pressure, he is able to save a lot of lives. This event merely sets the stage, and the movie revolves around the resulting investigation by the NTSB over the weeks following the event. The Investigation results in him being praised for his actions on one hand, but on the other, focuses in on toxicology reports the day of the plane crash, showing alcohol and drugs in his system and bringing to light his alcohol dependency. In this discovery, he stands to face a lifetime sentence in prison despite his valiant efforts. Throughout the movie, you see just how much he struggles to keep himself sober, and level-headed in the face of the inquiry. You start to see the strained friendships of the people trying desperately to help him, and the new friendships he makes along the way. The movie leads up to his own revelations about himself and the people he has lied to and hurt through his alcoholism. In conclusion, this film provides a realistic and visceral glimpse into the lives of functioning addicts. I would recommend this film to anyone wanting to escape into a world that makes them grateful for what they have and the people who love them. Yes, there is some nudity and drug-use depicted in the movie, but the film would not work without this aspect. This movie is for those who realize that ife isn't always rainbows and butterflies, so if you want that sort of thing, I would recommend something else... say, from the Disney-Pixar line-up.

Denzel Washington at his best!
An exceptional movie with Denzel Washington giving his best performance since 'The Book of Eli'. The film is well constructed, starting off by showing William 'Whip' Whittaker absolutely smashed and high off his face just before his SouthJet Flight 227 to Atlanta, which takes a perilous turn as the plane malfunctions and dives at dangerous speeds. Whip saves the day by miraculously inverting the plane and causing less of a disaster than what otherwise would've been. People may think that after the crash nothing exciting will happen, but that's not true, Flight is always gripping, and the acting is so convincing that you will find yourself digging for the characters, and worrying about their futures and the outcome of the main character. Flight is a fantastic character study of this anti-hero, who actually has a high level of blood alcohol and drugs in him before the flight, and officials and lawyers are all out after him to determine whether he's guilty or not. There's no denying here, Denzel Washington can act! His performance keeps the film flowing superbly even after the truly alarming plane sequence. Kelly Reilly is excellent too, it's good to see strong British talent showing off, and Reilly is one to watch! Don Cheadle, John Goodman, Brian Geraghty, Bruce Greenwood and the rest of the cast deliver stunning performances too, this is acting at it's best. Flight is hands down of the best movies of 2013 already, it's just a shame Washington didn't get an Oscar for such a gritty and spectacular performance.

Spitzen Film

FLIGHT: Spannend, traurig, ergreifend. Alles das also, was ein guter Film braucht. " Es ist komisch, wissen Sie,.......weil man nur Zwei Flaschen gefunden hat. " - " Wieso, Sir? " - " Weil ich Drei getrunken hab`............! " Lauflänge: 132.52 Minuten ( mit Abspann ) ! Extras: - Making of= 10.56 Minuten! Q & A= 13.44 Minuten! - Anatomie eines Flugzeugabsturzes= 7.25 Minuten! - Entstehung von " Flight "= 10 Minuten! - Trailer!
