The One Year Chronological Bible NLT

I wanted to do something new for my daily devotional reading, and when I saw this item I knew this was exactly what I wanted. A lot of people are confused by the Bible because it is not a linear narrative. The stories in the different books double back quite a bit in the Old Testament, and the New Testament, to a slightly lesser extent is the same. By arranging the texts chronologically, you are reading the Biblical record in the order that things happened. It helps you to see a narrative that helps you draw more meaning from the Biblical texts. THIS IS NOT A STUDY BIBLE! There are next to no notes, just the translator's notes where applicable. As a thought for thought translation, the NLT is not considered as scholarly as other translations, but the translators manage to honor the message of Scripture while using a more colloquial language than most versions. The reading seems more natural and conversational than it does with some other "more accurate" translations, and there are times when the turn of phrase used in the NLT unlocks meanings that would otherwise be harder to tease out of the text. The softcover binding made it through the year no problem, and was in good enough shape that I was able to pass it along to someone else when I was done with it. All in all, worth every penny!

I have never read the entire Bible all the way through in a year. I thought it would be difficult to accomplish. But with this translation, it was enjoyable. I highly recommend it. Also enjoyed having the books in chronological order. Helped keep all the events straight.

New year, new me. Started out 2021 with this chronological Bible. Really enjoying the simplicity of being able to wake up, open to the bookmark and read a few pages from where I left off. The readings are divided nicely with date for ea day of year and can be done in 10 minutes with your morning cup of coffee. I was doing devo's where I'd need my study book out and also my Bible flipping back and forth to references from the study devo. Although this is a great way to go in depth and grow, it was just too much "work" for me early in the a.m. so I recommend this chronological Bible which does all the organizing for you by sectioning out your reading for the day, dating it, printing it all clearly with footnotes at bottom of page. Devos and study Bibles tend to send you on tangents to learn the backstory or adjacent lessons. Again this is good, but for me I would end up down a rabbit hole. 2021 I just need a straightforward read where my mind is relaxed and God has space in my head to speak.

I have tried to read the Bible in the past but the language and the time lines confused me. This is great. Of course I don't know what book of the bible I am in as I listen, but I have a much better feel for the history, the people and the events. I am still in the old testament. Listening to all of it will take a while. If you want to be able to quote line and verse, this is not for you. But if you want to understand the story, this works.

This is great to have a translation that doesn't skip all around. This makes the Bible so much easier to read & understand. I'm not a beginner but wanted a Bible told in chronological order just for a different perspective. I've even picked up on things that I didn't in my regular Living Bible. It gives a fresh feel to it so maybe I was paying better attention & got more understanding. This Bible would be a great choice for anyone and especially for beginners because of the NLT, which uses our everyday language. If you've never read a Bible with a New Living Translation, it will SO OPEN up the Bible to you. If you get the meaning, then God's word will start to truly work in your life like never before! I never understood the King James Version & the stories meant very little to me because I felt like I could not relate. I had heard the same stories for years growing up & in & out of church but I didn't understand God's word & it wasn't effective until I bought a Living Bible translation & finally got true understanding of his word. The NLT is the newest translation after the Living Bible translation. Also, I like the size of the Bible, not too big & heavy but not too small either. The font size is perfect, no squinting or holding it closer to read. Great choice in a Bible!

Good Value for a chronological ‘read in year’ Bible. I appreciate how it’s setup with dates like a yearly devotional to keep you consistent in reading and broken up into readable bite sizes per day without making you feel overwhelmed as well as with it being in chronological order provides a historical overview as the events happened in those times. What a wonderful way to spend time in the Word. The font is a very readable font, it’s not stated what point size but it’s larger than my 8.5 point font compact ESV Bible, so maybe it’s a 9 point font. I’m really excited to get into it. It’s my 2026 goal to read the entire Bible in a year and I think this is a great, affordable way to achieve that goal. I gave it four stars because the words do go into the gutter a bit but hopefully overtime with everyday use it will soften and open up more. It’s a great value for all it has to offer!

This book is very enjoyable . Makes stories easy to understand . The way it's broke up its a easy commitment . My friend bought one to and we have bible study now . I actually have to stop when the days reading is up and marked by the next day cause it's easy to keep waiting to read on . I'm very grateful to have been told about this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to understand the bible even better . Don't hesitate for even a second . The only thing that could be better for me is the pages are so thin that in can be see thru and the writing on the back of the page is see thru somewhat . Not bad enough to not read it but I wish the pages were thicker and the print size is ok but I prefer a bit larger . Not enough to not buy it thou . ( Just would be nice. )Thank you to all that wrote this book and broke it down for the common person to understand .

Well, I'm surprised to say that I loved it! A year ago I wasn't expecting to be saying that after finishing it. You see I've always looked down my nose at The Living Bible as a "kids" translation. That's probably because when I was growing up in the Nazarene Church adults used either the King James Bible (KJV) or the Holy Bible: New American Standard Bible - NASB 1977 (Includes Translators' Notes) and children and teenagers used The Living Bible (Living Bible: Full Size) . So when I was a teenage my parents gave me a copy of The Way: The Living Bible (Illustrated) which was The Living Bible with cool, hip, groovy, far out graphics (to go along with our bell bottoms and tie died T-shirts no doubt). Candidly, I never read it much - except in church meetings. Later then I became genuinely born again (as opposed to a lukewarm member of a mainstream Christian church) the first thing that I asked my folks for was a "real" Bible - which meant the New American Standard Bible. I devoured it. After that, I was given a “Walk Thru the Bible” edition of the KJV Bible and I devoured it even more than I did the NASB. And then it was onto just about anything and everything else after (including a The New Jerusalem Bible: The Complete Text of the Ancient Canon of the Scriptures with Up-to-Date Introductions and Notes which I really loved). Left in the dust was The Living Bible. Until now. I like to use thought for thought translations for my devotions and word for word translations for my scholarly work – and I love these One Year Chronological Bibles, I own and have been through several. So I after I bought a hardcover Living Bible for a Mormon Missionary that I was reaching out to I thought that I should probably reacquaint myself with it too. And I was pleasantly surprised. Despite its well known deficiencies (some TLB translation decisions are a bit too loose and skew more toward commentary rather than pure translation) I fell in love with the clarity and approachability of the TLB text. I intend to start using it a lot more. And, as usual, this One Year Bible Chronological edition was wonderful. It kept me on track throughout the year (I finished it in about 13-months) and reading the text chronologically helped me gain a deeper understanding of some of the passages – the Old Testament prophets in particular. I’m moving onto to the NKJV, The Orthodox Study Bible, eBook: Ancient Christianity Speaks to Today's World as my next devotional Bible (new English translation from the Septuagint for the Old Testament, New King James Version (NKJV) for the New Testament) but at some point I fully expect to be returning to the One Year Chronological Bible The Living Bible edition again.

I’ve never read the Bible before so I wanted a chronological Bible so I could see how all of the pieces fit properly together and in what order. Otherwise it is so confusing because all of the books hit on very similar subjects and when you have to bounce all over the place to try to make sense of them all, it gets quite frustrating. Well, for me it did. I would simply just give up, and do something else instead. I bought the NLT version and I’m so glad that I did. It helps everything make a whole lot more sense having all the different books combined in one ‘as it happened’ order. It doesn’t go into a huge lot of detail, so whenever I need more specifics or detail, I read my other bible. If you are just learning, as I am, I would highly suggest this Bible. It is well written with a good sized font and is very easy to read and understand. I highly recommend this Bible.

Having been a christian for over 24 years, I have made several attempts to read the bible through in a year or even to read it through all together. However sadly this has never been possible as most times just like setting new years resolutions it goes on the pile heap of failed resolutions. Though with all good intentions to keep them. Well we are already in March and I have kept at reading the bible through in a year. The language is easy to read and understand, it has been broken up into daily readings from one book, not one old testament, one psalm, and one from the new testament. It is simply book by book, however occasionally it will give a little section to read from another book as it was written at the same time. I have already finished books like Job and Leviticus. I did not even know when I finished Levitcus, I found myself in Numbers as it seemed like one continuous story. The best thing about the bible is I am discovering things in the scriptures I never knew existed until now. I would say the reason is I have always read the books I enjoy, like Genesis,Pslams, Proverbs, the new testament etc. This Bible comes highly recommended. At the end of the year I will buy the "The One year Bible NLT as I know it will be just as easy to follow. If there were more stars I would have given it.

Arrived on time and in good condition and is the best version of a chronological Bible that I've seen. It could probably use a fancier name and has the typical thin paper but is also single column instead of two. I bought the NLT for the red cover but would like if we had the choice of choosing the cover and translation. This isn't a study Bible but is a great addition if you already have one. I also have a Bible that reads like a novel. It brings a new and refreshing reading experience, especially if you find it difficult to read through the regular Bibles. Overall it's the best that I've seen.

Great read.. I love how you can read the entire bible in order from beginning to end. The only thing I don’t like is that I think the pages are very thin and you can see the writing through the page behind. Other than that I think it’s a great book.
