Alien: Romulus - Blu-ray + Digital

A solid return
I watched Alien: Romulus and thought it was a solid addition to the series. It brought back the suspense and horror elements that made the original films so engaging. The atmosphere was tense, and the visuals were impressive. Cailee Spaeny did a great job as the lead, bringing a fresh energy to the story. The film had some intense moments that kept me on edge. That said, it did rely heavily on nostalgia, with many callbacks to earlier movies. While that was fun at times, it also made parts of the film feel a bit predictable. Some of the characters could have been more developed, but overall, the movie delivered on the thrills and scares I was hoping for.If you’re a fan of the Alien franchise, this one is worth checking out. It may not surpass the classics, but it captures the essence of what made them great.

One of the best movies I've ever seen
10/10 Masterpiece.Even if the later part of the plot is a little crazy, This is still my favorite movie of 2024 and one of the best films I've ever seen. The acting is amazing, the soundtrack is perfect, and the plot and special effects are mostly perfect. My only complaints are there are some wonky looking alien CGI heads and the Offspring alien was a little stupid.

Its hits just below the mark
two real main characters actually do a great job at acting even tho there is a fodder character in the end stretch that I thought was a main until then who was also a great actor, the actual fodder characters where also not bad, the art for the movie on the cover is a spoiler to who dies so that was a buzzkill already knew as soon as I saw the character show up. people say in the comments that there are cringy scenes and I really didn't think there were really any at all, or im just to blonde. the movie kept my attention, I had to read a text in a part and realized I was only 3 minutes ahead and already going wow what happened. The director did a great job and making sure there was a good nostalgia factor along with the modern day sprinkle in it. I do wish they took a different approach as in completely brand new rather then making it in the time frame between the first and second alien/s. I did not like the slight predictability and the Prometheus idea pull, but I guess thats how this movie is in play because its a sequel/prequel. Alot of inspiration was taking from space odyssey and alien isolation (the video game). all in all a good watch.. excited for alien isolation 2 the game and hoping for a brand new alien movie with a different plot line would be nice and minus the hybrid xeno's thats kinda lame.. I liked in alien Dark Decent (the game) they had a massive xeno that would be sweet to see on the big screen.the practical effects did steal my soul, I come from (82's) the thing (no im not that old but I watched it when i was 8), the dark crystal both movie and show(F netflix tho for not continuing the show), and of course alien. 4 stars only because I do love my xeno's on the big screen!

Outstanding !
Focusing on the wrong subject matter can kill a franchise. Fortunately, this franchise will never die and someone finally made another good Alien movie. The perfect trilogy path for this franchise -- ALIEN, ALIEN ROMULUS, ALIENS.Three movies together that are a Suspenseful, Frightening, Pulse-pounding journey.I highly recommend Alien Romulus as a true part of the originally intended Alien story.

Great movie Good addition to the Alien franchise
I've only watched it once so far so good. Pretty scary movie. A lot like the original Alien. Takes place about 20 years after Alien so pretty close in movietime. I like it better than the last two Alien movies by Ridley, they always left me with an uneasy feeling, like I just watched something I shouldn;t have watched, especially Covenant. The actors actually play mostly smart and competent parts in this movie. Ridley's last two Alien movies I swear. The people couldn't have been stupider or more incompetent, with attitude also. Sometimes I was actually rooting for the alien to put them out of our misery lol

Fun but Completely Unoriginal
Remember the first 2 Alien movies? You know: the only 2 in pretty much the entire franchise that can realistically be called "good?" Remember how they had great characters, memorable action and some of the most quotable dialog in cinema? Alien Romulus remembers. For the good, of the six main characters, four of them actually act like they want to survive and, save for a particularly boneheaded decision by one in an elevator, make decisions that believably correlate with the whole "not trying to die in a horror movie" shtick. Said characters also have pretty redeemable motivations (Escape corporate oppression) and maintain just enough interest in their plight to make them likable. Throw in a downright nostalgic Alien retro setting, a few effective scares and the best way to deal with an army of xenomorphs ever and this should have been the movie that proved decisively that this franchise had more than fumes left in the tank. What went wrong?Unfortunately, this movie not only wears its nostalgia proudly on its sleeve but uses it as a crutch for the majority of the runtime. Remember those cool quotes? There here and are lamely spewed so you can point at the screen and say "They said the thing!" Remember how final those first 2 great movies were? This one feels like none of it mattered because sequels got to happen. A good-to-great movie is in here but it seems so intent in pulling a Super 8 gimmick (the movie spent most of its runtime trying to tell me how good ET was rather than make itself good) that it forgets that it should be competing with that quality instead of mimicking it.Final verdict: While the movie drags itself down with awkward callbacks to superior movies and revisiting stupid concepts from much worse movies in the franchise (you'll know when you see it), it rides high on a fun cast with their hearts fully in it and a few memorable set pieces. Should the rental price ever fall below $5, this would feel like a must watch for the franchise as a whole. Just be prepared at just how unthorough the heroes from the best movies were the first time around (how the Xenomorph got there is beyond stupid). At least it isn't Prometheus.
