If you have a finished basement, and/or don't have ceiling/wall access to run wires to install a second hard-wired chime in another room, this is the perfect solution. Even after having said that, at this price, this might even be a better solution given the labor of pulling wires, the convenience of being able moving the chime at any time, or easily adding more chimes to the system.For me, this item worked great, and was exactly what I was looking for: a transmitter that wires to the existing chime (therefore no batteries required), and a chime receiver that could be plugged in anywhere (also no batteries required). The configurable chime tunes (8 I believe, easily set with jumper blocks) and a volume setting are a nice bonus. Before ordering, you may want to confirm the voltage at your existing (wired) door chime, as I have read other reviews that stated if the voltage is too low (less than 12VAC?) when the doorbell is rung, it may not work reliably.My review is 5 stars since it works as designed for me, but I figured it might bear mentioning my setup. It is as follows:- Standard contractor doorbell, nothing fancy. Installed on the wall right by the front door.- Standard 16VAC transformer in basement mechanical room.- 1 doorbell button (front door).- Carlon/Lamson/Thomas & Betts/Whatever Extend-a-chime plugged into an outlet, in the basement, in a storage room, behind a door, approximately 20-25 feet (rough guess) from the transmitter upstairs.Confirmed voltage at the doorbell chime upstairs was approximately 14VAC when quickly pressing the doorbell as a typical visitor might do. Holding the button down was not necessary.If I had to find something wrong, it would be the way to set the transmitter frequency. This is done by clipping wires, instead of the preferred method of jumper blocks, like the tune selection. I suspect however, you may not need to change this out of the box, unless you are using multiple transmitters in the same house. But even in that situation, you would simply change one transmitter by clipping a wire, and not ever need to change it back.Overall a simple, clean and easy installation, and works as a reasonable person would expect.

Great product at a very reasonable price.This is a good product that works well and is easy to use.INSTALLATION: Attached the transmitter to the existing wired door bell inside the house on the existing door chime. The transmitter is pretty small - I did not measure it but I think the dimensions are about 3" x 1.5" x 3/4" or so. It is pretty small. It fit in a slot that was designed to hold 3 D cell batteries in the existing door chime (if you used it wirelessly). Took about 5 minutes to install (Two wires to attach with a cross tip screwdriver).FUNCTION: Plugged the chime into a wall socket in our downstairs so now everyone upstairs and downstairs can hear the doorbell ring. Even heard it when we had our television on fairly loud watching a sporting event - chime was clear and loud.

I recently built a new workshop in the backyard and tried to use this Extend-a-Chime to get the house doorbell to ring out there. The Extend-a-Chime install process couldn't have been simpler, and I would highly recommend it if you're well within the advertised 150' range.Unfortunately, in my case, the range just wasn't long enough to get it to work reliably.If you're looking for an alternative to this product that has a better range (and more features), then try the Honeywell Wireless Extender combined with their Wireless Door Chime. That combination works very well and has about 3x the effective range of the Extend-a-Chime.Overall, although the Extend-a-Chime didn't work for me, it did work well within a limited range. The install was easy and the instructions were clear - so I'm still giving it 4 stars and would recommend it to users who just want to extend their doorbell to another part of their house.Aside from the limited range, the only other downside I found with the Extend-a-Chime was the very bulky transmitter. When I set it up with my existing doorbell, I found that it was almost impossible to either conceal or make look good. The wires also come out the bottom, so you can't hide them in the wall. In some ways, I'm kind of glad it didn't work out since it would have looked so klunky compared to the solution I ended up going with.

Installation was simple and it worked correctly without issues. Reciever is installed on second floor bedroom approx 40 feet from transmitter. Could not find any support or manufacture details on the internet prior to purchase, only basic description at tnb dot com, enter part number (RC3200) in search box. Tone is adjustable by movable small plastic / metal bridge contacts moved over 8 pins; went through all tones - tone is not high fidelity quality, but is acceptable. Wife says it is not very loud, but I think it is OK; may not be heard over TV if TV sound is turned up loud, but if it was loud enough to be heard over TV it would be too loud in a silent environment. The transission frequency codes are changed by cutting wires, so this is a permanent change (unless you solder them back) - but this was not an issue for me as there was no interference and I did not change transmission frequency. Purchase RC3200 and RC3253 (extra add on reciever) - these matched and the add on appears to be the same as the 3200 without the transmitter.

After a lot of research and reading the other reviews of this product, I bought this doorbell extender through Amazon and it arrived quickly. I have a new house with a finished third level, and we couldn't hear the standard doorbell from all the way up there.The directions were very good. I had to hook up three terminals of the existing doorbell to three wires of the transmitter that comes with the kit, which took about two minutes with a screwdriver. Both the terminals and the wires were clearly marked so there was no chance of error. I spent a few minutes more to dress up the installation by routing the wires and using the double-sided tape to affix the transmitter to the doorbell cover.I plugged the receiver into an empty outlet on the third floor, and when I tested it out, it worked perfectly. I was worried about the distance from the transmitter to the receiver, but there's no problem at all.I really like that there are no batteries to change or anything to maintain. I also like that it works immediately upon pressing the doorbell -- there's no need to hold it down or do anything different.

Bottom line is it does what it is supposed to - it allows you to place a remote chime in an AC outlet and hear when the doorbell is pressed.The installation was simple, the instructions were easy to follow.Range is good.I do think some design changes could make it a much better product.1. The sender is fairly large. Large enough that it doesn't fit inside the cover of my main chime.2. The jumpers to change the chime tone are on the sender. If they were on the remote chime, it would make changing the chime tone much easier, and would probably allow the sender to be smaller (see #1).3. While it is nice that you can change the frequency to reduce interference, it would be nice if they used jumpers similar to what is used to adjust the chime tone rather than wires that must be cut and can't then be "un-cut."4. Even on its loudest setting, the chime is not very loud.

Easy to install and works well. I wear hearing aides and I cannot hear the door bell from where I work in the bedroom. I added the wireless chime and now, even without my aides for moderate hearing loss, I can hear the remote bell well enough though it is not loud but it is loud enough. It probably would not wake me from a sound sleep though.The wireless chime is about fifty feet from the door bell and a single wall separates the two. It is easy to move the chime receiver from one room to another. If I am doing work in the garage for instance, I can just unplug the receiver from the wall and plug it into an outlet in the garage where I can hear it while working there.

We have a small family room in the back, rear, corner of our house and could not hear the doorbell ring. I was going to add another doorbell but after trying to trace out the existing wiring in the attic and not being able to find the doorbell transformer,(its an old house), I decided to try the Extend-A-Chime.I am amazed at how easy it was to install. I connected the three wires to my existing chime box and placed the sending unit on top of the chime box with the double sided tape that came with the extend a chime unit. I then placed the receiving unit in a spare electric outlet in the family room. The receiver works off of AC power, no need for any batteries. The transmitter gets it's power from the doorbell.The transmitter is about 50 feet from the receiver and it works fine.The only suggestion that I would have is a design suggestion. It would be much better if the type of door bell chime settings be placed on the receiver instead of the transmitter unit.
