Teaching Today A Practical Guide Fourth Edition

I bought this book a few years into teaching, having previously used 'Learning to Teach (Science) in the Secondary School' during my PGCE. Teaching Today is about a million times better! The book is very easy to read; its approach is practical and down-to-earth, and the tasks set do not seem terminally dull. There is a good balance of theory and practice - the two are blended together pretty seamlessly. I can highly recommend Teaching Today, either for those starting out in teaching or for anyone looking to refresh their ideas.

I was fortunate enough to be taught by Geoff Petty when I was taking my Cert. Ed. It spoke volumes that, while other lecturers' classes were sporadically attended, it was difficult to get a seat in Geoff's classes! This man is an inspirational teacher and it comes across in his writing, which is full of easy-to-follow concepts and examples. If you aspire to be an inspirational teacher too, or if you're just trying to find ways in which to get through the day a bit more easily, then you need this book on your shelves.

Been teaching for 25 years but wanted an update on latest methods and though this is not the very latest edition it is very useful and readable. Have been to talks by Geoff Petty and he is very impressive with down to earth, practical, common sense ideas.

I chose this book having already got the 3rd edition but needed the update version for the current teaching standards. It is a very comprehensive guide to teaching in schools, however as I will be teaching in FE and HE I probably should have gone for another book relating to the PTLLS< DTLLS<CTLLS courses.

I have been progressing through the Lifelong Learning Courses and will soon be starting the DTTLS. This book has been suitable for all and is so easy to understand. A good investment. even better has I signed up for the Amazon card and got £ 5.00 off! My daughter is due to startv the Graduate Teach First Teacher Training programme soon and all though she will training for reception pupils the core teaching priciples are the same and this will definately be part of her starter prsent kit. A Geoff Petty GEM AGAIN !!
