First off, immediately upon receiving these I opened them.Upon flipping them over, you can see a VERY large slot - clearly perfectly sized for a US Quarter.There is no reasonably competent person in the world that would see this slot and think "Hey I'm going to take a screwdriver to this!".That will end badly.Because it's very clearly way too wide for all but the largest screwdriver heads.So - with my bad, weak, arthritic hands - I grabbed a quarter and popped it in the slot. Turned counter-clockwise while applying a small amount of pressure down. It's not a cheap and flimsy catch like so many of these, so there's just a little bit of force required at the beginning, and then... it comes open.Just. Like. That.I have no idea what is wrong with all these other reviewers - they're turning the wrong way, or using a screwdriver (as at least one has admitted to), or just... I don't know. But they're wrong. These are not remotely hard to open.Are they any good aside from that? No idea! They all work. The remote works. The timer works. Left on all the time (via switch, not "on" on) sure it'll probably drain the battery - because it has to listen for the remote the whole time.For me? These were exactly what they should have been - including easy to open and replace the battery.I can't believe so many people are having issues with something so very simple. Ignore them.

Bought these for my wedding, and they are perfect! Comes with remote control and different light settings for brightness or real-flame flicker setting.

The battery operated votives which come with remote and are exactly what I wanted in my screen in porch. I have two three piece sets of colored glass cup holders that the votives sit in wire provided. Plus another of the six colored cup holders that contain a votive. Even if I am not using the porch, I sometimes have the candles lit to see them from our family room. The light from the candles is bright. Plus with the different timed settings on the remote, I like the variation you are given. I just leave the candles turned to on position and use the remote to turn them on. If I want to turn them off before the preferred lighting time, I can use remote to turn them off.

Love the fact that the set comes with the remote control, it control all the lights at once, love it.

I have these all over. I really missed evening candlelight but was really over the cost, mess, environmental burden, fire danger and air quality issues. In my mind, there was no ways ‘fake’ candle could bring the same ambiance and soul comfort. Color me wrong…& there’s a remote! My guests have especially enjoyed them in lieu of nightlights to navigate new environments or in the bathroom.

Appreciate the timer options. Difficult to change batteries. Perfect brightness for a votive.

Thought they were a little bigger but they’re small. At least they fit in the glass I have. They’re more yellow than my other battery candles

I used these candles daily for about 6months before the batteries wore out. I can’t figure out how to open the candles - it is tricky! Worth it tho. Long lasting, inexpensive, looks like a real candle flickering.
