One Of The Best
I use a lot of hard drives in my work usually the 3.5" mechanical drives, but more recently I buy more and more NVME ssd's and an enclosure as they are quicker and more and less likely to fail, this Ugreen enclosure is one of the best I have used, this enclosure gives me consistent read and write speeds of over 3000mbps (using the Blackmagic disk speed test). One thing I will say is, don't skimp on the NVME ssd you buy, the wd black 850x is brilliant and probably my favourite although I'm using Lexar 2tb 800pro NVME's in this enclosure and its been great. The only slight caveats are as in other reviews, the drive does get warm and the fan is a little noisy, but that does not bother me too much, the speeds are what matter!

Good product spoilt by the cooling fan, but still happy with purchase
Having already got a Ugreen Thunderbolt 4 dock, this would marry up nicely, and installed is the Samsung SSD 990 4.0 Pro. The performance of the the dock/drive is very close to that of the installed drive of the M4 Mac mini pro. The cooling fan is noisy under load transferring 1.3 TB data as well as getting quite hot. Not as hot as Mac Paw registering my Mac CPU reaching 98 degrees C (normaly 40). Under normal usage the fan is not too bad, no worse than an intel laptop. But the build quality is the usual high standard of Ugreen. And the performance it delivers with the Samsung SSD is I feel at times quicker than the Mac. I can scroll through thousands of Canon RAW images without any time delay. Saving rendered images from Photoshop is as fast as the Mac's hard drive, and performs well using Photoshop Light Room Classic, which I used to manage my digital photographs. It still has one of the best viewing function. Considering the cost the SSD I can leave with the fan as it delivers the performance that the more expensive enclosures achieve. There is always a compromise.

Fast
Recommend for Gen4 NVMe drives on Mac. Works better than expected, fan is a little loud.

Loud fan noise. Poor thermals.
This thing is loud! I use the other ugreen thunderbolt 4 enclosure on another machine and its fan quietly kicks in after a few hours of use. When setting up a new machine (Mac Mini M4), I used this one isntead, but there's no thermal pads provided and no physical interaction of the SSD and the case (as a heatsink). The fan ramps up really loudly within any sustained disk access (e.g. booting up, loading up a VM disk image). Adding thermal pads to connect the SSD to the case doesn't help. It is so loud that I initially thought it was the Mac Mini M4 firing up (i.e. loud enough for a whole system), but nope. Really disappointed. Unbearable.

Good but needs to fix the heat issue
The enclosure is good. It's fast. It gets hot and disconnects when very hot.A USB-C port is best for use. This reduces heat, speed drops, and disconnections.Use Thunderbolt 4/5 only for large files.

Just what i needed - mac mini
After realising my mac mini M2 with only 256gb does not last 5 minutes when backing up numerous phones & ipads (lol i know!) i needed to work out how to sort as apple do not let you open up & click in extra memory.Up pops this after researching & all i can say is it works fantastic. I bought this Ugreen case as it is thunderbolt 4 suited & then fitted a 1tb WD850x nvme card. Make sure you get a good ssd as this will also determine the speed it can operate/transfer at etc.I installed the latest operating system on it & now use that as the mac mini brains & storage. It just boots up from it and away you go. Now i have loads more memory and it works really well/smoothly and fast. Unsure on heavy applications as i am only a light user. But it is a great and very helpful work around & cheaper than apple memory upgrades when you buy the mac mini - brilliant!

UGREEN M.2 NVMe SSD 40Gbps NVMe PWM Fan
Performance it is similar to the Akasis enclosure that suppose to be a TB3 and this claims to be a pure TB4. Tested with a Crucial P3 Plus SSD (advertised as 5GB/s). But the real problem is the noise on the fan. Not only it is loud - I though other users were picky, but worst is that once activated, it does NOT decrease even it holds is PWM although the temp of the nVME falls to normal use, unless you unplug and plug it again.I tried also with firmware upgrade. It is a pity, since I have other Ugreen products and I am really happy with them.I didn't return it, since I use it for a one off (transfer, backups) instead of having it constantly connected. But for 90bpg does not deserve it, since for a bit more I could have bought another Akasis (but at that time the increase was higher).

Fast and useful
Very useful for copying large NVME's and not take forever. Most of these enclosures are super slow, this one isn't.
