4G router
Purchased to replace an older Huawei cat 6 4g router that I had some intermittent problems. So far been good, not had to restart it frequently like my old router, getting same connections speeds. The wifi range is a little better than my old router so that is a bonus both 2.4 and 5ghz.The configuration contains a little less in the way of advanced functions but all the essentials are there and unlike my old router it detected the correct apn settings so I did not need to manually input these. For the price works well so far. No connection problems. Connection seems stable. Was very easy to set up. Power lead was a little shorter than my old router but not a big deal. Overall and improvement over what I had so worth while purchase.

Best home connection tech in ages and should have bought much sooner
What a fantastic product. After many broadband outages I needed an alternative connection via 4g that was more reliable and permanent than phone tethering that the whole house could use. In wireless (it can also act as additional AP) mode sitting between the broadband router and the rest of the house, it not only connects automatically when the broadband service disconnects but also fails back to passive mode when it returns and will even SMS you your mobile data usage monthly and send SMS alerts if you get near a data limit you define. I use it with a PAYG sim. One note is the manual has some menu instruction inconsistencies for setting the failover detection. The correct menu hierarchy is Advanced->MBB-> 3G/4G BackupOutside topping up the PAYG sim periodically there is nothing more to do once setup. If you want it in 3g/4g router mode only that works well to. It also has its own firewall which can be configuredAbsolutely brilliant!

Pleased with it, 5GHZ range could be better / Edited Jan 2015
Edited Jan 2015. Got frustrated with 5GHz range and had a couple of other issues did not know whether router or not so brought the Netgear R7000 Nighthawk. Admittedly the Netgear is a newer device but the range on 5GHz is impressive and not far behind that of 2.4GHz. So the TP LInk to be boxed and sold.------------------------This is replace firstly my BT Homehub 3 and secondly (a yet to be released at the time of writing) Skydog N900 router. Had issues with both routers, combination of wireless dropouts , limited range on both. The Skydog did not support BT infinity nor multicast needed for Youview internet channels so didn't want to make the mistake again. So after doing quite a bit of research for something that supported BT Infinity, ip multicast, and the device had support itself from a company that responded to its customers! Came down to this and the Asus AC66U but combination of significantly increased price for the Asus, another £70 and poor support from various reviews steered me to the TP Link. Also smallnetbuilder, an independent networking site gave a positive review on the box and whilst commenting on the poor 5Ghz range advised signal and stability where very good.Amazon as usual delivered on time, this time to Amazon locker and waited to the weekend to setup in case of any issues. Setup was a breeze, used the supplied CD and all up and working in a basic setup in a few mins. Spent a bit longer tinkering around with altering Wireless settings and then did a firmware upgrade . This wiped out my wireless settings so did it again, a minor irritation but only added another few mins to the process. The admin interface is a bit old school and could do with updating as some things like setting static ip addresses could be made simpler but not the sort of thing a lot people do and if you know that what you want to do you will work it out anyway. It has some quite advanced features in it so for advanced users who link to tinker around with advanced settings would appreciate this router. So whats it like. What surprised me was how bad the 5HGZ range is, both the HH3 and Skydog had better range, when they worked, but the 2.4GHZ range is vastly improved and what most of my current devices run on. In my old setup i had a DEVOLO dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ wireless extender for the 2.4ghz network but found I now needed this for the 5GHZ network! So whilst disappointed about the 5GHZ wireless range the BT Infinity aspect and Youview Internet channels are working fine using the out of the box settings for support of multicast. So initial impressions good. Will update as time goes to see what happens.

Very Fast speeds - 150/50 mbps
Wow, this has really impressed me, just set up the Mercusys MB230-4G with a Giff Gaff Sim which uses O2 and really impressed with ease of set up and the Mbps speed, my laptop shows speeds of 158 and 50 as per attached testphoto, this is wireless and we are not in a strong signal area as only 1 bar out of 3 on the device. I have bought it as a back up at home for Virgin going down anmd then I just port in my TP Link Router to this instead of the Virgin Box which is in Modem mode. Will use this device when away in the UK and France as well as my other dongles are now where near as fast as this. I set up the device using the phone mobile app, easy and lots of options to change user name and SSID etc if you want to. I think if people report slow speeds its all about network coverage, signal strength and even the type of device you are using. My modern laptop speed test shows this 4G Router can certainly deliver even in a weaker signal area.
