Review: Great, even after so many years! - Introduction This is going to be a long one, so brace yourselves. First off, I should mention that I got the iPod used, obviously since it was replaced by a newer model 5 years ago. I wanted to carry with me my whole music collection, some 60GB worth of music, not burden the battery if my smartphone, and not punch a hole through my wallet altogether. Hence, i decided to buy a used iPod Classic, since a new one is too expensive. Build Quality Even though I bought it as used, it only had a single bump on one corner, evidence that it had been dropped once, and hardly any scratches on its back or sides, which is remarkable by itself, considering it has been used at least since 2007. The build quality is to die for. The iconic clickwheel, the anodized aluminium front, the sleek form factor! It is built like a tank, and last it will. Battery It was fitted with a brand new battery, and I have to say that it definitely excels. Without constant changes (volume, track, etc) it can easily play music for 20 hours, while it can play videos for 5-6 hours, though with today's 5'+ screen smartphones boasting Full HD resolutions, I doubt anyone will even consider torture themselves with a 2' screen! Sound Quality Having already listened most of my collection, and having listened some songs on a friends' iPod Classic 160GB 6/7th edition, I believe the 80GB version sounds brighter and richer in bass, mids and highs through my Skullcandy and AKG overhead cans, and through my Sennheiser in-ear headphones, as well as my living room rig, which consists of an old vacuum tube Kenwood amplifier. I guess that the last one does not count, as vacuum tube amplifiers make anything sound sweet! My point is, it sounds way better than the latest model, whether from a difference in sound chips or from "burning-in" the audio chip, I don't know. All in all, I am quite pleased with this product, and a lot more for what i payed for the thing! If you are looking for a good way to carry your music around, love listening to music, and don't want to take a toll on your smartphone's battery life, then get it!
Review: possibly one of the best mp3's around - the apple ipod is a mp3 wich is highly popular around the world. for a while ive been switching beetween a array of mp3 players wich either didnt have alot of space or wich broke down after a while. being a musician i obviously listen to music alot and so when i got a bit of money to buy one at first i was a bit hesitant having to pay about 160£ for a mp3 player but know im glad i did. i like the curved corners and the round pad wich make it different from other mp3's it looks pretty good and with the added feature of playing videos the screen was a good size to watch all sorts of tv shows, podcasts and live performances. its also a pretty sturdy and durable item, obviously the back panel can get scratched a bit but i did drop it pretty hard onto a pavement and it didnt seem scuffed at all. the item came in a good padded package with all the said bits and pieces inside the box, the item was delivered in 2 days! wich i was amazingly happy about. the only slight downfall is the program 'itunes' wich is used to put your desired music, photos and videos onto the program, at first itunes is hard to figure out but after a little while it seems easier but with things like deleting stuff of it and getting album artwork to work on your ipod, itunes is probobly the must stuck up and annoying program to ever exist. but i do know of a few alternate programs to itunes. overall the ipod is a good investment for music lovers, a great piece of kit.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'll be honest, I'm only giving this 4 stars because not everybody is as fussy as me
*by J***Y on 3 February 2008*

I've had a fourth generation iPod for several years, and always found its sound quality to be excellent. Although the supplied headphones are, bluntly put, terrible. The detail and clarity brought out by a good pair of headphones like those made by Etymotic Research really makes the player shine - especially when the EU volume limit has been removed so you can really rock out (for like five minutes at a time, or else your ears blow up). Which is where the problem starts. I've used several pairs of headphones with my new iPod, and the better quality the headphones, the more faults are shown in the iPod Classics' reproduction. Using the same headphones, my iBook is fine, my stereo is fine, even my desktop computer's onboard sound is fine. But not the Classic. Nope. The midrange has slight distortion, the soundstage is closed in, the highs and lows sound artificial, and all in all, I've listened to far better cassette Walkmen in the early 90s. To finish it off, if you're using less sensitive headphones, the volume is too low and is apparently impossible to unlock. I inquired about the sound quality to Apple, and they quickly sent me another one. It's just as bad. Pros: Cheap. Large storage. New user interface. The front, at least, seems more durable. Improved battery life. Cons: If you can tell the difference between 128kbps and 320kbps recordings, you'll definitely notice this is poor quality. Can't unlock the volume limit due to encryption. Background hiss is a serious blast from the past - didn't we leave this in the 80s? The back is made from a strange, shiny, scratch-attracting magnet. In short: an awesome music player, so long as you're deaf, don't mind poor sound quality, or otherwise don't listen to music. Oh, and Apple's aftercare is very good - it's just a pity the product blows.
