This product comes with software to clone the disk, because I need to clone the disk of my laptop?

You can download the Acronis True Image WD Edition Software for free from Western Digital's site. It does an excellent job of cloning hard drives to a new Western Digital disk. I've used it myself several times.

Can the wd m.2 ssd be used as a boot drive for windows?

Absolutely. I just installed it. Used Macrium Reflect to copy my entire OS Drive (c:) onto the SSD. Then you go into the BIOS and tell it to boot to the M.2 SSD. It boots faster. The M.2 SSD is then called "C:" Then I turned my spinning hard Drive into just data storage.

Is this compatible with an i5 6500?

The processor isn't a factor. You will want to look at what type of SATA connections your system has on the motherboard. Even if they don't match, the drive will down-step to the controllers speed (sata2 controller with a sata3 drive). In the future, the controller would down-step to the drives speed (sata3 drive and a sata4 controller). Assuming the physical connections remain the same.
