We placed it in our bedroom and kept the room closed and it has made a significant difference, my snoring as stopped and both my partner and I are sleeping better and for longer. Note to other reviewers: This product will take a day or two to work and works best in a room that is kept closed. Most pollutants are odourless and it can only be judged over a period of time. However we have found it to be excellent. Review: Broke after 13 months - Was great until it stopped working after just over a year, nicely out of guarantee. I note I am not alone and it appears this has a short life, which for the money is poor.

good but not good enough
unlike the ioniser i owned that gave life 2 days ago after years of daily use, and I only poured a few drops of essential oil every other day, as it worked 10/10 minutes on/off to avoid a much intense smell (which can actually be irritating). in this machine, Essential oil evaporating does nothing much but to act as a localised antiseptic for the bacteria making it through the filter. evaporating oil is actually a waste of money, so happy with an ioniser in the room which makes a brilliant job at breaking down the molecules of oil for efficient spreading through the air and efficacy at neutralising pollution and bad smells. Plus it acts a lot better on the aromatherapy point of view, since the molecules are smaller... And again, I know it makes sense for some people to use the brands-own essential oils. but essential oils are essential and any can do, especially when poured freely in a small cup, and let to evaporate... not for me though! Hence why i do not give 5 star. Having had an ioniser instead of a silly cup this would have been the revolutionary machine the designers claim it to be! Plus, I still need to see how good the filter is... Will check every day to see if actual dust is caught there,,,, if it is black then it works. Furthermore, having it in my bedroom it is not silence and quite loud to be perfectly honest but okay, still not as loud as a fan on a hot summer day. There is no way to switch off the light and that is another reason it does not get more stars. And i so frustrated and annoyed with wasting energy that serves no purpose. Having a light should be a choice!

First Allergy Free Night's Sleep in Weeks!!!
We purchased the Duux Air Purifier for our bedroom as both me and my husband have really suffered with our allergies over the last few weeks. Our hayfever has been terrible as the Pollen Count has been high and it is not helped by our 2 cats, who chose to use our bedroom as their bedroom through the day while we are at work. We chose the Duux Air Purifier basically because of the price and the size. Most air purifiers are large, ugly units and as we have just decorated our bedroom we didn't want a bulky unit to spoil the decoration. The reviews for the product were not that good, but we decided to give it a go to make our own minds up. We received the product yesterday and installed it around 6pm last night. The unit is very cool looking and sits on our drawer unit very nicely. It is easy to set up and was in use within 2 minutes of taking it out of the box. The on/off button is at the back, one press for on with light, a second press for on without the light and a third press of the button turns the unit off. The night light is a nice feature if you were using it in a baby or toddlers room. The unit does make a sound, it is like the sound of a fan on a low level. It is in no way silent, but it didn't keep me awake overnight and I am a light sleeper. I am sure within a couple of nights it will become the normal noise of the room. We placed Olbas Oil in the oil cup to aid with our congestion and although it didn't smell as strongly as it would in an oil burner there was a nice hint of the smell in the room after a few hours. I guess the proof of the product test is how well we slept. Both me and my husband had a brilliant nights sleep, the first in a good few weeks. My breathing was much better and I didn't need to use my inhaler once through the night. My husbands heavy breathing (well if I am honest, snoring) was significantly reduced and we both slept through the night without interruption. My eyes were noticeably better this morning and not the usual sore/watery state that they are usually in. All in all we are thrilled so far as to how much of a difference it made in the one night we have had it. Obviously, we are yet to give it a long term test but first impressions are fantastic.

Possible design issue means the filter is bypassed
I have had this air pruifier running constantly for a week now. Not enough time to judge its effectives by the amount of dust caught by the filter, but in my opinion there is a major design flaw with this item. The filter is accessible by removing the top half of the 'ball'. The filter is located in the bottom half and the fan directly above it. The seal between the fan and filter is crucial to the proper operation of the device. There is another review which mentions that there is 1.5 mm gap between the shell and filter when inserting it, and indeed there is as you can see by online pictures. Provided there is a good seal between the fan and filter (so no air can get to the fan without passing the filter though this gap first) then this isnt an issue. I imagined there would be some kind of lock to ensure there isn't bypassing, but the seal between the fan and filter is only created by the weight of the upper half (this is not very heavy) onto a piece of black foam (on top of the filter). Furthermore, the foam and the top haf barely make contact, making it more difciult to get a air tght seal. I suspected there was a fair amount of air bypassing fillter so I improved the seal by adding a very thin piece of soft foam around the edge of the filter (the hole of the filter going to the fan was not blocked in any way). What I found since doing this is that there is a significantly reduced amount of air coming out the top. Only a very slight air flow can be felt when holding a hand right next the outlet. To me this shows that air was bypassing the filter, and that the small fan inside (smiliar to the one you find in a PC) is simply not strong enough to effectively pull air through the filter. This device is slightly cheaper than other options, but given the possible bypassing issue and weak fan (probably why it uses so little power) I would spend the £9.99 extra.

Pleased with purchace
I love this air purifier. It has made a big difference to my allergies. I like the fact that you can add essential oils. This gives a very slight aroma which is not overpowering. It looks lovely and modern , too.
