I ordered these shorts for figure skating to protect my and my daughters backside. I wouldn't say that size runs small, shorts are very stretchy. I ordered the size M for my daughter (9 years) and the size XL for me. After all I took for me the shorts of size M because they suited me the best and were too big for my daughter (she isn't skinny, just a normal kid, without any overweight). I think the shorts doesn't suite for children at all.I wear size XS or S (waist ~70 cm, hips ~91 cm) and M size shorts were stretched but fitted on me good. I found it ok because I don't like if they are too loose like the size XL.Regarding the usage - I found padding ok. I haven't tested yet how it is to fall down with shorts on the ice straight on the whole backside. I tested shorts hitting a bit against the floor and the padding absorbed the shock very good. The other time I really fell down on the ice on the side and didn't feel any pain at all. I wear shorts under my skating pants and with a short skirt over them so that they can't be seen at all.

Waist size was as stated in the information (M 26-27" waist).When I was choosing, I would have found actual measurements to compare helpful- Laid flat and very hastily measured:approx 11" across the waist (hard to get them to lay flat because of the padding on the sides of the leg, fitted a 26" waist on a child nicely)approx 15" from waist to bottom of leglegs measured about 7" acrossThey were baggy on, but with something underneath they'll be great for skating. Quality appears fine.

Doesn't make you invulnerable but falling is much less painful. I have no basis for comparison as these are the only impact shorts I've ever used. I've taken 2 pretty bad falls on park-boxes that i'm sure would have been much worse if I wasn't wearing these.

So far so good - got these to help protect my butt when I fall over skating (roller derby) they arent the most elegant looking but who cares?I did find the sizing a little bigger than expected on the waist

As others said a bit scratchy, ok with leggings. Will test it very soon for snowboarding. not too bulky neither

Comfortable, flexible and offer medium protection. These are exactly what I wanted - offer a perfect combination of protection and comfort. If you want more protection get something with heavier armour. These are much easier than my previous crash pants when taking a 'break' :) well made and fit as expected. The velcro patch could be bigger if I was being picky

Quite bulky compared to more expensive ones, but u get what you pay for. They do the job and saved my boy getting injured snowboarding. I had to have the smallest size for my 9 year old. Go a size smaller if unsure as they are very stretchy.

Saved me from pain during snowboarding falls. They're a bit fit though.
